COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – An extensive undercover operation targeting human trafficking in Coweta County has led to the apprehension of 26 individuals, including a local resident who holds a high-ranking position in children’s education within the Pentagon.
According to the esteemed military publication Stars and Stripes, 64-year-old Stephen Hovanic, a resident of Sharpsburg, serves as the chief of staff for Defense Department schools in the United States.
Stephen Hovanic has been charged with pandering, a misdemeanor offense in Georgia, by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. It is alleged that he solicited sexual services from an undercover officer in a motel room where a two-day operation to combat human trafficking was being conducted.
During the operation, a total of 26 individuals were apprehended for various offenses, including pandering, prostitution, and pimping, as confirmed by the deputies involved.

The sheriff’s office has also identified and provided assistance to six women who were deemed victims of human trafficking.
Stephen Hovanic maintains that he believed he was procuring a massage, not engaging in sexual activity, from the woman who was, unbeknownst to him, an undercover officer.
The investigation into human trafficking is ongoing, and authorities anticipate the possibility of additional arrests and charges.
