IT ALL BECAME EASIER DURING THE SWITCH FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL TV SIGNALS

[VfB posits that subliminal were inserted into SOUND OF FREEDOM; lots of weird crap occurred around its release]

Many folks weren’t ready, or maybe they didn’t care enough about their TV signal quality to upgrade. But nearly eight years ago, it happened anyway, and the United States finally threw out its old rabbit-ear antennas—no matter how much it hurt.

The effort started slowly, with a test conducted by 25 television stations on November 1, 1998, according to a FCC report on the formulation of digital TV technology. The feeds, based in the 10 largest television markets, were very limited at first. A 1998 CNN report noted that one of the first programs to show up in a digital format was a screening of 101 Dalmatians, which only people who owned $5,000 television sets (or bought adapters for their not-as-good screens) could afford to see in the high-quality format.

Mandated by law to see the change through, the commission often buckled to keep the transition on track, even as the prices of digital televisions went down from $5,000 to $150.

And the job was messy. Former FCC chair Michael Powell often found himself in the unenviable position of trying to clean up a massive, bureaucratic mess. As early as October of 2001, Powell had to set up a task force intended to fix the problems around the transition.

“The DTV transition is a massive and complex undertaking. Although I’m often asked what the FCC is going to do to ‘fix’ the DTV transition, I believe that a big part of the problem were the unrealistic expectations set by the 2006 target date for return of the analog spectrum,” Powell said in an October 2001 news release. “This Task Force will help us re-examine the assumptions on which the Commission based its DTV policies, and give us the ability to react and make necessary adjustments.”

And those adjustments kept happening. For years, the federal government passed regulations or legislation to kick the can down the road as many times as it could. In the midst of a major housing and financial crisis in late 2008 and early 2009, the Bush and Obama administrations repeatedly found themselves having to deal with one small piece of legislation or another related to the digital transition. At a time when things were going to hell in a handbasket, we couldn’t even rely on TV to be a source of comfort.

(It wasn’t cheap, either: The U.S. government earmarked $1.5 billion to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration as part of its program to allow Americans to buy $40 digital converters for their analog TV sets. Despite the more than $2 billion the government paid to ease the transition, millions weren’t ready, despite the fact it was widely promoted pretty much everywhere.)

The reservations in the US are not reserved for Natives. They have been invaded by every other type of people for decades and no one has tried to stop them except for the native people. The reservations are the most lovely places in the United States with food, water, and natural shelter. Every reservation has more opotunities for optimal life than any metro area of the United States including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami.

⁣Caddyshack is the satirized story of the Bible – VfB

Danny Noonan (Michael O’Keefe) is an underacheving 17-year-old guy who works as a caddy at the upscale Bushwood Country Club in Beverly Hills to earn enough money to go to college. Danny often caddies for Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), a suave and talented golfer and the son of one of Bushwood’s co-founders. Danny decides to gain favor with Judge Elihu Smails (Ted Knight), the country club’s stodgy co-founder and director of the caddy scholarship program, by caddying for him.

Meanwhile, Carl Spackler (Bill Murray), one of the dim-witted greenskeepers, is entrusted with combating a potentially disastrous gopher infestation. Throughout the film, he tries a variety of methods to kill the gopher (e.g. shooting, drowning) without success.

Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield), a brash and obnoxious nouveau riche real estate developer, begins appearing at the club. Smails is heckled by Czervik as he tees off, causing his shot to go badly wrong. Smails throws a putter away in frustration and accidentally injures a member of the club. Danny takes responsibility for the incident, as a ploy to gain Smails’ trust. Smails encourages him to apply for the caddy scholarship.

At Bushwood’s annual Fourth of July banquet, Danny and his girlfriend Maggie (Sarah Holcomb) work as servers. Czervik continues to irritate Smails and the club members, while Danny becomes attracted to Lacey Underall (Cindy Morgan), Smails’ promiscuous niece. Danny wins the Caddy Day golf tournament and the scholarship, earning him praise from Smails and an invitation to attend the christening ceremony for his boat. The boat is sunk at the event after a collision with Czervik’s larger boat. On returning, Smails discovers Lacey and Danny having a tryst at his house. Expecting to be fired or to have the scholarship revoked, Danny is surprised when Smails only demands that he keeps the incident secret.

Unable to bear the continued presence of the crude-mannered Czervik, Smails confronts him and announces that Czervik will never be granted membership. Czervik counters by announcing that he would never consider being a member: he insults the place and is merely there to evaluate buying Bushwood and developing the land into condominiums. After a brief scuffle and exchange of insults, Ty Webb suggests they discuss a resolution over drinks. After Smails demands satisfaction, Czervik proposes a team golf match with Smails and his regular golfing partner Dr. Beeper (Dan Resin) against Czervik and Webb. Against club rules, they also agree to a $20,000 wager, quickly doubled to $40,000, on the outcome of the match. That evening, Webb practices for the game against Smails and meets Carl, where the two share a bottle of wine and a joint.

The golf match is held the following day. Word spreads of the stakes involved and a crowd builds. During the game, Smails and Beeper take the lead, while Czervik, to his dismay, is “playing the worst game of his life”. He reacts to Smails’ taunts by impulsively redoubling the wager to $80,000 per team. When his own ricocheting ball strikes him, Czervik feigns injury in hopes of having the contest declared a draw. Lou, the course official who is acting as an umpire, tells Czervik his team will forfeit unless they find a substitute. When Webb chooses Danny, Smails threatens to revoke his scholarship, but Czervik promises Danny that he will make it “worth his while” if he wins. Danny eventually decides he would rather humiliate the selfish, conceited Smails than take the scholarship.

By the time they reach the final hole, the score is tied. At the climax of the game, with Danny about to attempt a difficult putt to win, Czervik again redoubles the wager to $160,000 per team. Danny’s putt leaves the ball hanging over the edge of the hole. At that moment, Carl, in his latest attempt to kill the gopher, detonates a series of plastic explosives that he has rigged around the golf course. The explosion shakes the ground and causes the ball to drop into the hole, handing Danny, Webb, and Czervik the victory. Smails refuses to pay, so Czervik beckons two hulking men, named Moose and Roco, to “help the judge find his checkbook.” As Smails is chased around the course, Czervik leads another wild party attended by all of the onlookers at the match, shouting, “Hey everybody! We’re all gonna get laid!”

In the final scene, the gopher emerges, unharmed, and dances amid the smoldering ruins of the golf course.

⁣Women Fighting Men in the Movies Versus Real Life

Feminist egalitarianism teaches us that there is no difference between men and women, and gender is a social construct. That means a slender, petite woman can pummel four guys who are charging at her by using a bat and advanced karate maneuvers. But the Hollywood action movies that feature women beating up men are fake and fictional. So is feminism.

⁣James Lindsay, anti-Communist - This new trailer for Beneath Sheep's Clothing gave me chills.

Source: https://x.com/ConceptualJames/....status/1823814951359

Thumbnail: https://realfreedomtalk.com/sh....ow-episodes/a-look-b

Julie Behling is the author of a very important new book, “Beneath Sheep’s Clothing,” and producer of a documentary by the same name.

Today in America, we are living in a time of war. Our country has been invaded by Communist forces that are training 49.4 million American public school children to become Marxist revolutionaries. Our churches are infiltrated by wolves in sheep’s clothing. And the bedrock ideologies upon which America was founded have been weakened to the point that they will die off with the older generations.

This is not fiction. This is a wake-up call to the American people – to everyone with children in schools, to Christians, and to anyone who cares about freedom.

The Soviet regime notoriously brainwashed its populace through its government-run schools and the media. It was ruthless in its treatment of Christians who didn’t comply. And it infiltrated its churches with KGB agents cloaked as clergy.

Over a century ago, the communist playbook began to be utilized on American soil. It appears to be close to reaching a pinnacle, after which there will be nothing to be done. America will fall to totalitarian rule.

But not if we do something about it.

⁣In May 1934, five months before Hitler and his accomplices held their second Nazi Party Congress in Nuremberg, Germany, Leni Riefenstahl traveled to the city to prepare for the film she would make about this spectacle. She had already impressed Hitler and his minister of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, with her documentation of the first Nazi Party Congress, Sieg des Glaubens (Victory of the Faith) (1933), celebrating Hitler’s rise to power. They saw in her style the ability to create an operatic image of a Germany imbued with an overwhelming might, order, and beauty that matched their own vision. So they provided Riefenstahl unstinting cooperation and resources, and, together with her, choreographed the Congress to optimize her filmmaking. She was given a company of cameramen and guards and freedom to construct elaborate bridges, towers, and tracks for her cameras. The result was Der Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will)—a Nazi propaganda film widely considered to be among the most effective of its kind.

Screens of text open the film, framing Hitler as a savior whose coming began “the German Rebirth.”1 The text fades to the first scene: Hitler’s airplane flying above clouds, which part to reveal Nuremberg, its streets filled with citizens marching in formation. In fact, the marches had not yet begun. Riefenstahl created the illusion of simultaneity by intercutting footage shot later with that of Hitler’s arriving airplane. As the plane lands, Riefenstahl cuts to throngs of admirers, forests of arms raised in the Nazi salute. Their dictator emerges, like a god descended to earth. The classical music overlaid onto these scenes swells to a triumphant crescendo as the crowds roar, “Heil! Heil!”

From its ecstatic beginning sequence, Triumph of the Will moves into the thick of the events of the Congress in scene after scene—staged for the camera—of rallies, speeches by Hitler and other key Nazi Party leaders, and masses of workers and soldiers standing or marching for Hitler’s review as crowds of Aryan onlookers cheer and salute. Riefenstahl cunningly shot and edited her footage to scramble the viewer’s perspective: she made crowds appear bigger, spaces seem vaster and more complex, and time itself feel alternately elongated or compressed. Extreme high- and low-angle shots of Hitler delivering his histrionic speeches position him as master of a world of impeccably ordered subjects. Swastikas and other Nazi iconography fill nearly every scene. The cumulative effect is a sense of the Nazis’ invincibility and the inevitability that they will remake Germany in their image.

⁣From the vaults of VfB comes this bit of cinematic history

George - the dumb bastards should sell you the rights back to LucasFilm, et. al., for one dollar, then drop the planned script for the actual remaining three movies [if that's actually a thing] and let JLongbone direct it...unless you'd rather finish it personally - you weren't pulling Hugh Hefner moves while directing and producing

Star Wars Deleted Magic Revisited

"Deleted Magic" is a feature-length documentary about the deleted scenes of the Star Wars trilogy, and about how the movies we know and love were made and edited together. It is taken from information, sources and home videos officially released by Lucasfilm. This project is not an official Lucasfilm project - it is an unofficial, not-for-profit research project, done in the spirit of fun by a Star Wars fan to be both informative and entertaining.

The idea is to combine all sorts of alternate, deleted and making-of footage into a full-length film that gives a better view of how the film we know as Star Wars was edited together. In addition to deleted scenes like the Biggs Darklighter material, you'll get a sense of the "Lost Cuts" of the films ... the longer edits that didn't have finished voices or effects.

Edited by Garrett Gilchrist. Original version 2005, Revisited 2009

That first Jabba scene is from the special edition with CGI slug Jabba. The original deleted scene has this fat Irish guy:

https://youtu.be/cw1gkNd6Z_8

I skimmed through it to see if this scene was included (maybe I missed it):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ayT0EZwbks

I’m still pretty obsessed how George Lucas made star wars 77. It’s real movie magic. Shame we don’t have this level of drive and vision anymore in film directors.

This is a very interesting documentary about the making of the first Star Wars film (and to a lesser extent Empire and Jedi) including a look at some of the deleted scenes, behind the scenes footage, and notes on subtle things that you might have never seen or noticed before.
Intention:

In March 2005, I created a DVD called Deleted Magic and released it for free, on a non-profit basis, on the internet. It was very popular. I’m told that Clive Young’s book Homemade Hollywood called it “The best documentary ever made on the making of Star Wars.”

In 2009, I decided to revisit the major deleted scenes of Star Wars. Most of these scenes had only been released in low quality, 12 frames per second, on CD-ROMs in the late 90s. I used the program Twixtor to generate new frames and restore these scenes to 24 frames per second – not a perfect solution during fast motion, but jaw-droppingly successful during dialogue scenes, and an improvement that is like night and day. I combined a multitude of new sources within the same frame to restore the Jabba the Hutt scene. I animated a shot of Luke and a Treadwell droid, and a shot of Ben attacking with his lightsaber during the Cantina sequence. I have restored these scenes to a quality never seen before, and placed them on this disc for you, edited into the original, unchanged Deleted Magic feature documentary from 2005. Enjoy.

Additional Notes:

A note that the special features also appear in slightly better quality than on the original Deleted Magic … ripped directly from other fine fan DVDs. The 1977 crawl does not appear this time round due to disc space (I had intended to use the version from my own Star Wars Classic Edition 2.0). Slightly different menu music this time round. You might find subtle references to two of my other fan DVD projects. The object of Deleted Magic Revisited was to recreate my original Deleted Magic DVD from 2005, but with new versions of five major deleted scenes. I had edited these scenes in 16×9 aspect ratio to preserve their quality. However, the original Deleted Magic was edited in a 4×3 aspect ratio, due to the many different sources used in the film, and the onscreen captions. So, it was impossible to place the new material into the film seamlessly. Instead, there’s an ugly jump as to another track as your DVD player switches ratios. I tried to place these switches in inconspicuous places, reediting some material from the original Deleted Magic in 16×9 to make the transitions easier. I’ve recreated the functionality of the original Deleted Magic DVD, not an easy task, as it’s a very complex DVD full of subtitles, photo galleries, many chapters and tracks, “stories”, alternate audio, different versions of things … I retyped the extra subtitles, recreated the image galleries, etc. Enjoy this new version!

Found an interesting article about the Phoenix event(s). @everyone

But we do not get that luxury. This object that so terrified our ancestors went by many names in antiquity, the most popular being the Phoenix. It visited and destroyed whole civilizations of humans in 4309 BCE, 2647, 2239, 1687 and 1135 BCE. It was witnessed and recorded in 721 and 583 BCE. It again returned in 31 BCE, 246 CE, 384 and 522 CE. During its next two visitations it wiped out the Mayan civilization. The Dark Ages was a period of slow to no development and the Phoenix was silent, each pass it remained deactivated.

In 1764 CE it passed again just as our Industrial Age was beginning. Millions of Europeans looked up into the sky in May and saw this vast object obscure a fifth of the sun's surface. Astronomer Hoffman studied it through a telescope. But the Phoenix did not activate, vanishing back into the vault of blackness above. Scientists were baffled for this was in defiance of the Copernican and Newtonian models, that an object that large could descend out of northern space, cross over the ecliptic plane and disappear into southern space. It was forgotten.

But it reappeared again in 1902 in the month of May, bringing with it a new comet. Anyone having known this history could have predicted its return. A fixed mathematical orbit. But in 1902 we were still in our technological infancy. Phoenix remained deactivated.

Things have changed. When it returns in May 2040 it will again reactivate. A worldwide epic cataclysm will set us back to Year 0. A new calendar will have to begin. The Vikings prophecies of the Ragnarok predicted this event, it is mentioned in the Revelation as the Sixth Seal, a sun darkening episode of quakes and rocks falling from the sky with the moon turning blood red just as Phoenix was recorded to do several times in the Early to Late Bronze Age as documented in my books and posts. The Sybilline Oracles, Old Testament prophecies, Nostradamus quatrains and even the enigmatic and highly plagiarized Mother Shipton foretold of this single catastrophic year. This is the fundamental secret about the Old World calendrical systems...calendars of antiquity marked Year One almost always after a major disaster marked the passage of an age.

Two weeks ago, Australian performance artist Ruby Rose released a short film titled Break Free. The piece, set to a song (“It Pulls Me Under”) performed by Butterfly Boucher, depicts Rose’s transition from an ultra-feminine identity into a hyper-masculine one. The response has been loud, though not always proud. Some of the viewers want it to represent everything for everyone. But, like any created work, it intends to simply capture and convey the artist’s very singular experience. The hope, presumably, is that others will relate to and appreciate it, but that’s where the creator’s responsibility stops and the viewer’s discernment starts.
Both the support and backlash are examples of how starved the LGBT community — particularly the trans population — is for positive representations of itself in the media. Along with others, Rose and Boucher have teamed up and done their part. But, like Rose says, “We need more people doing and fewer people complaining.”
Ruby, where did the seed idea for the piece come from?
RR: This is definitely an autobiographical piece. The concept itself was sort of something that was very much like a seed in that it kept growing and growing until one day I quite simply said, “That’s it. I’m shooting my film this weekend. Enough is enough.” Because I was battling with it myself. I had wanted to shoot the film for so long as a therapeutic piece in answer to all the comments and discrimination I have received over my life time whenever I have strayed too far away from the status quo of feminine gender roles.
I’ve had this reincarnation so many times in my life and I wanted to capture it in a short video for others who relate, because we can try and try and be something that we don’t feel inside, but in the end only when you listen to your soul and that heart that beats inside of us, can we find happiness and acceptance?
Butterfly, what was your initial instinct/impression/impulse when you first saw the piece?
BB: Well, the first time I watched it, I was coming from a very technical point of view… How long is it? What kind of mood?
The first thing I noticed was that it was really well done, and that Ruby had obviously put a lot of work into it. When she reached out to me, she only had two days to find some music for it. I really felt this piece of film deserved the right music, so I spent the next three hours going through my catalog of previous albums to see if anything fit, but songs were either lyrically not relevant or, musically, they made the visuals feel more like a music video rather than a short film. I really didn’t want to lose the classiness of the short film.
It wasn’t until about the third or forth time I watched it that it started to hit me emotionally. It started to hit me how ballsy and brave Ruby was for making this film! The scene that moved me was the part where she is yelling at the camera saying, “What the F&@k are you looking at” repeatedly, like she is rehearsing for the real world. At first, I was kind of offended by it, but then it occurred to me that that is kind of how tough somebody would have to be to stand up to the haters out there.
How did you come to choose and contact Butterfly [Boucher] for the song?
RR: I have known Butterfly for years through Missy Higgins and she is beyond talented. Just a real inspiration with an enormous heart. I love her music and I asked if I would be able to use a song. She said yes and was so behind the film she didn’t even have time to mix it or master it, and that’s why I love her. That’s why her fans love her. She can release a song not mastered or mixed and it sounds perfect. And she gave it to me, which allowed me to give it to others. She’s had such a huge reaction she released it for free for the weekend and is getting it mixed and mastered for release.
Tell me a little about the song — its inspiration and purpose prior to this.
BB: This song was actually originally written for a Grey’s Anatomy episode, My co-writer on this song, Katie Herzig, and I were told they were looking for sad/everything-is-falling-apart/but-still-some-hope songs. So this is what we came up with. It wasn’t used and until this Ruby video came up. I had forgotten about it; it had just been sitting in my “Songs to Finish” folder.

Synopsis: From Columbia Pictures to Warner Brothers, the studios that gave rise to the Hollywood empire were all founded by innovative Eastern European immigrants and first-generation American Jews.

Called “a lucid, inviting work of social history” (The New York Times), this mesmerizing program tells several dramatic stories, including the rise of American film, the personal sagas of the people who shaped it, and the origins of so-called Hollywood values. Using never-before-seen home videos, film clips, and interviews with everyone from Carl Laemmle, cofounder of what is now Universal Studios, to film critic Leonard Maltin, this is a groundbreaking portrait of how Hollywood first began.

A&E® is proud to present a fearless and provocative look at how the founders of “America’s Dream Factory,” while struggling to reinvent themselves as Americans, managed to change the image of the nation itself.

“Hollywood was a dream, dreamt by Jews who were fleeing a nightmare”

‘Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies, and the American Dream’ is a documentary based on the book ‘An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood’, by Neal Gabler. Rife with film clips and archival footage, it provides an overview of the origins of Hollywood – of the six men who started it all, from their arrival to the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century to the mid-’50s.

Originally produced for and broadcast on A&E, it was repackaged on DVD under the title ‘Hollywood: An Empire of Their Own’. I picked it up a few years ago as part of an A&E Biography boxed set featuring many documentaries on various Hollywood legends. ‘Hollywoodism’ had been one of the more informative ones, given that it had a larger scope.

Back in the day, there were five major movie studios, all established in the ’20s: 20th Century Fox, MGM, Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros. All were brought to life by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, who had lived within a 500 mile radius: William Fox, Samuel Goldwyn, Carl Laemmle, Louis B. Mayer, Henry Warner, and Adolph Zukor.

Persecuted back home, they came to America to start over. They all changed their names in a bid to leave their past behind and to be accepted in this new life. They even went so far as to hide their heritage from their children, in order to give them a fresh start. Unfortunately, their options were incredibly limited, so most of them to struggle to find work.

Before they got into the movies, motion pictures were very anti-immigrant or critical of non-white Protestants; the biggest cinematic achievement before their arrival on the scene was ‘Birth of a Nation’. Racism and intolerance prevailed: it is said that Edison so wanted to keep Jews out of the business that he ended up driving them out to California.

…to what would become Hollywood.

These pioneers weren’t easy to fell. Tough as nails, they all brought their respective studios to life within a few years. Carl Laemmle even went so far as to found Universal City, with its own postal service, police station, …etc. He created a small movie-making city that exists to this day (although it has morphed to a certain degree through the years).

Their personal experiences translated in the films that they made. Universal had the persecuted monsters, Warner Bros. had the little guys (the losers, …etc.), Columbia focused on the “common man”, Paramount went with fantasy/escapism, and MGM brought class on a grand scale. On screen, their personal determination to survive translated as the will of the everyman to overcome obstacles.

Eventually, they created an image of America based on their own ideals, including a worship of the mother figure, a distrust of the father figure, and an idyllic life that was wrapped up in personal freedom, a sense of community, and patriotism. It was so popular with the masses that it became something to aspire to – an “American Dream” that persists today.

‘Hollywoodism’ also discusses other significant figures, such as acclaimed songwriter Irving Berlin, who was also a Jew and who expressed similar concerns and values as the movie moguls did...
