King Louis IX of France (later canonized as Saint Louis) ordered the burning of copies of the Talmud in the 13th century. ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”ฅ

What happened:
โ€ขIn 1240, a public debate known as the Disputation of Paris was held in Paris.
โ€ขThe accusations against the Talmud were brought by Nicholas Donin, a jewish convert to Christianity who claimed the text contained insults against Christianity.
โ€ขFour leading rabbis defended the Talmud before the king and church officials.

The result:
โ€ขAfter the trial, the Talmud was declared guilty of blasphemy by Christian authorities.
โ€ขIn 1242, Louis IX ordered the confiscated manuscripts burned in Paris.
โ€ขAbout 24 wagonloads of handwritten books (roughly 10,000โ€“12,000 volumes) were destroyed publicly.
