⁣Jaman said she had finished her swim and was taking a shower when she heard a man’s voice.

“I saw a man in a woman’s bathing suit where two toilets are and
there were two little girls standing there taking down their suits to
use the toilet. I looked at him and I said, ‘Do you have a penis?’ and
he said it’s none of your business. And I said you need to leave now.”

The trans person was Clementine Adams,
a YMCA employee, and the YMCA asked Jaman to leave the pool. She has
since been barred for violating the YMCA’s Code of Conduct.

“The Y really needs to provide an all-gender or some kind of other facility, along with signage,” she told KOMO.

“We have all worked hard to get the kind of equality and inclusiveness that is so needed, including for trans people,” Jaman said. “Everybody I’m with the program except in the shower.”


“The CEO of the YMCA told me pride posters are adequate to let people know, women know, what to expect in the shower room known for 60 years as a female only,” she said during a speech about her experiences, the Daily Mail reported.

Loved this episode. I gave my daughter Gavin's book Gift of Fear before she went to university. She also took a self-defense course for several weeks. She credits both of them for escaping an attack in an isolated spot outside of a restaurant. She's only 5'3" and 120 lbs but she was able to twist out of an attack from behind and throw a 6'1" man into a wall and run away. Our family owe Mr. De Becker for her life and safety ❤

I am both fascinated and terrified by what Gavin has to say and the implications it has for society at large. Bottom line is, if you use technology, you waive your rights to privacy. Period. 🙄 This has made me look at smartphones and internet-connected tech in a very different light!

As others have already said, this is one of the best guests I can remember on the podcast. He doesn't engage in nonsensical speculation, politically slanted opinions, etc - he just states objective and empirical facts regardless of their implications or individuals they may indict.

This wasn't even the best part of the podcast. The exchange about the defense classes Gavin teaches was excellent. You could hear Joe's disgust at the proposition. Gavin took it with extreme class and flipped it around so expertly. I loved Joe realize that although his argument was correct, it wasn't the situation being discussed, and immediately change his tune was priceless. I really appreciated the maturity of Joe and his guests. The ability to listen to 2 people discuss important issues IN GOOD FAITH is why Rogan is so successful.

A business jet carrying a former White House official this month pitched up and down in midair, causing her death, after pilots turned off a system that stabilizes the plane, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report.

The pilots noticed several warnings related to system failures of the aircraft’s flight control as it traveled from Keene, N.H., to Leesburg, Va., on March 3, and they followed steps on a checklist, which advised them to turn off a switch that controls a stabilizer function in the aircraft, according to the report.

When the switch was turned off, it prompted the nose of the plane to swing upward, the report says. The plane then pointed down and jerked upward again in a roller-coaster-like motion before a pilot used both hands to regain control of it, the N.T.S.B. said.
“As soon as the switch position was moved, the airplane abruptly pitched up,” the report says. One of the pilots, in his account to investigators, estimated that the plane had oscillated up and down for a “few seconds.”

Shortly after the scare, the crew members were told by a passenger that the former White House official, Dana Hyde, 55, of Cabin John, Md., had been injured. Ms. Hyde, who was a senior adviser at the State Department under President Barack Obama and served as counsel on the 9/11 Commission, was taken to a hospital after the plane landed.

She died in the hospital from her injuries, the authorities said.

The people onboard the plane, a Bombardier Challenger 300, were subjected to forces about four times the pull of gravity, according to the report.

The authorities initially said that the plane had encountered “severe turbulence.” But the flight crew members told investigators that they “did not experience any remarkable turbulence during the flight,” the report says.

The jet was diverted to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn.

Last year, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a directive to pilots flying the Bombardier Challenger 300 that instructed them to conduct extra safety tests before flights. The directive was prompted by several reports that the horizontal stabilizer caused the noses of planes to tilt down when pilots tried to make the plane climb, according to a rule from the F.A.A. in June last year.

Bombardier said in a statement on Sunday that it was “deeply saddened by this tragic event,” adding, “We extend our sincerest sympathies to all those affected by this accident.”

Bombardier said it was “carefully studying” the preliminary report from the N.T.S.B.

Ms. Hyde’s husband, Jonathan Chambers, said in a statement that they and their younger son had been flying home that day, after visiting schools in New England, when their plane “suddenly convulsed in a manner that violently threw the three of us.”
“Dana was the best person I ever knew,” he said, adding that she “never forgot her small-town eastern Oregonian roots.”

Ms. Hyde was a special assistant to the deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, according to Columbia University.

She later served as associate director of the Office of Management and Budget during the Obama administration. She also helped establish the African Leadership University and worked at Jerusalem Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. “That’s a real résumé,” her husband said.

Mr. Chambers said his wife was “a wonderful mother to our boys.”

In a eulogy for Ms. Hyde delivered by Mr. Chambers’s older son, he dismissed the idea of living each day as if it were your last.
“I now realize that’s wrong,” the son said, according to Mr. Chambers. “You should live each day as if it’s the last of someone you love.”

Well, let me speak to that. My understanding—and I'm not an expert on influencer reimbursement—is that, actually, YouTube and some of the other platforms are, frankly, more lucrative for influencers. But I don't think this kind of social media app will disappear. I believe in the robustness of the competition system. People doing creative things on video. I'm all for it. It just needs to be done from a trusted source. Was there a specific event that really motivated you to go ahead with this bill?

Look, I've listened to TikTok's management. I've heard about the firewalls they've tried to build. They did not convince me. There are still constant reports of TikTok being potentially used to follow journalists. You continue to see these things where Chinese engineers are gaining access to American data, even though TikTok management says they're not. At the end of the day, you've got a hundred million Americans using TikTok on average 90 minutes a day. That's a powerful tool.

A former Bush speechwriter wrote about TikTok in The Washington Post recently. He said, "Americans would not tolerate their own government collecting so much sensitive information about them.” Last week, the FBI acknowledged that it had, in the past, purchased US location data rather than get a warrant to obtain it. What do you say to people more worried about their own government tracking them than one thousands of miles overseas?

That concerns me. I think the onus is on the FBI to ensure privacy is protected, and I do have concerns about some of the American-based companies, the Facebooks and Googles of the world. But they also enjoy First Amendment protections, and where I've tried to focus my activities, with regard to American companies, is on things like data portability and interoperability, so if you get tired of Facebook it's easier to transport yourself over to NewCo. Right now, it's really hard for new competitors to come into the space. Or dark patterns, things where there's manipulation. The old thing where apps only allow you to say “yes.” I think precluding dark patterns on American-based social media makes sense, and I've got bipartisan legislation on that. But it hasn't moved. I do think there is a different level of threat when the ultimate recipient, or manipulator, could be an authoritarian regime. I do think that raises the threat. But that doesn't mean there are no obligations on the FBI, and I think there should be obligations on American social media, and I think it's an embarrassment that we don't have a national privacy law.
