William Zev Steen, a former STEM teacher at a private Jewish school in Baltimore City, was sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of child pornography and sexual exploitation.
Steen was originally charged at the state level, but federal prosecutors have since stepped in.
According to the prosecution's sentencing memo, some prominent Baltimore Jewish community members support Steen.
"It is of course unclear from these statements whether all of these individuals are aware of the full scope of the defendant's criminal conduct here," said the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The memo reveals Steen and his wife alerted Rabbi Shraga Neuberger, a rabbi at Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, about the conduct in 2013, at which time he referred the couple to a counselor.
That counselor, Yehuda Bergman, is a registered drama arts therapist but is not licensed or trained in dealing with sexual abuse or trauma.
Neither Bergman nor Neuberger reported the abuse to police, "explaining the consequences would be too difficult for [redacted victim]."
The victim saw a different counselor, Laura Greer, for a couple of years but didn't disclose the nature and extent of the trauma they endured.
Rabbi Mordecai Shuchatowitz, the rabbi of Agudath of Greenspring synagogue and the 'Av Bais Din' or head of the Baltimore Rabbinical Court, requested the judge show leniency to Steen.
"Shuchatowitz.. suggests Steen's 'addiction' (referring to his interest in child pornography), is 'because of something unhappy in [his] life.' Shuchatowitz argues Steen didn't produce, collect, and distribute child pornography because he wanted to see 'inappropriate material.' Instead, he claims Steen did so because something was 'gnawing' at or 'bothering' him," the prosecution's sentencing memo reads.
Shuchatowitz calls Steen a "very good person," and hopes he gets the chance to be with his family and community again.
ZA'AKAH, an organization fiscally supported by SNAP (the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests) that advocates for survivors of child sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish community, is requesting the judge unseal the letters in support of Steen.

BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death.
Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas.

I'm a Christian and I believe Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. But I can't help myself but think that this letter isn't authentic. First, in the gospels when the pharises bring Jesus in front of Pilate Pontius, Pilate speaks and acts like he never knew or even hear about Jesus, suggesting that Pilate couldn't knew Jesus before. Secondly, if Pilate would end his official letter to the Caesar with "Hallelujah" a jewish phrase, the Caesar would think Pilate is a traitor, preparing a revolution in Galilee. I might be wrong, I might be an unbeliever like Tomas was, but I think this letter isn't authentic. Anyway, regardless of this letter, Jesus is The One True God. Amen!

I work with a Jewish gentleman from Israel, both parents were born and raised in Israel. He has beautiful greenish blue eyes and olive skin as if he has a gentle tan and average brown hair. I lived in Germany for a while, I went to Spain on vacation and there were many Spaniards with blonde hair and blue eyes. Never assume anything.

The Bible nowhere gives a physical description of what Jesus looked like during His incarnation. The closest thing we get to a description is in Isaiah 53:2b, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” All this tells us is that Jesus’ appearance was just like any other man’s – He was ordinary-looking. Isaiah was here prophesying that the coming suffering Servant would arise in lowly conditions and wear none of the usual emblems of royalty, making His true identity visible only to the discerning eye of faith.

Jesus was and is both fully God, and fully man, and to separate the two is heresy. I also think that He probably did not have golden hair, being a jew, and that this letter us probably a fake, as are most or all of the vatican's relics. Stick to scripture and stop looking for signs and souvenirs.

I find it extremely difficult, explaining a personal transcendent experience to another, one risks in extreme cases, decapitation by those who are prisoners of the word, and do not see the immense greatness of God, beyond words and various descriptions. I always took Pilate as a just man. Maybe, being a veteran, i relate more to the Romans than the Jews. I always found it interesting how Roman accounts of Jesus always portrayed him as righteous and maybe as something more. It was like, even non-believers could feel something about him. The fact that Pilate's quotation matches scripture put a smile on my face. The book is true.

Pontius Pilate's letter to Ceasar is an incredible read. He truly believed Jesus was the son of God and the way he described his conversation with Jesus was an eye opener.
Also Pilate was a Governor, not Ceasar and it was shocking how little the Roman's had control of Jerusalem and the Jewish people during that time.

I think that even though Jesus was born in the middle east, He is going to look just how God wants Him to look, dark hair or blondish hair, blue eyes or brown and I think its incredibly arrogant of us to assume we know how God made Jesus to look. There are albino people who'd normally have dark skin. God can and does do what He wants, I think its wise to remember that. Nor should physical traits matter. I think thats a point in this, there are no written accounts of his features...why? Because its not what mattered. Its who He is that matters.

Trump revealed during the interview that he was not warned about Crooks by the U.S. Secret Service.
"Mistakes were made," Watters told Trump. "They were monitoring this guy for an hour beforehand. No one told you not to take the stage?"

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) issued a defiant response on Monday to former Trump co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita, signaling he would not be pressured to back a measure funding the government that President Trump supports and the House will consider on Tuesday.
“Someone thinks they can control my voting card by threatening my re-election. Guess what? Doesn’t work on me,” Massie wrote in a Monday post on the social platform X in response to LaCivita, who had written “tick tock Tommie” about the bill.
“Three times I’ve had a challenger who tried to be more MAGA than me. None busted 25 percent because my constituents prefer transparency and principles over blind allegiance,” Massie added.
Massie is the only House Republican to say definitively that he will vote against a continuing resolution that would keep the government funded through the end of September.
Trump has threatened to oust him for his opposition.
“Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic ‘NO’ vote on just about everything, despite the fact that he has always voted for Continuing Resolutions in the past,” Trump wrote in a Monday Truth Social post, comparing Massie to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).
“HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED, and I will lead the charge against him. He’s just another GRANDSTANDER, who’s too much trouble, and not worth the fight.”
The Kentucky Republican has frequently shown opposition to Trump’s agenda. He has also frustrated Republicans in Congress at various times by voting against their funding measures.
“I’m not voting for the Continuing Resolution budget (cut-copy-paste omnibus) this week. Why would I vote to continue the waste fraud and abuse DOGE has found,” the Kentucky representative wrote on X.
Massie has used the backlash to raise campaign funds for his re-election bid, lauding himself as the “one person in Congress who won’t cave.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has remained supportive of Massie despite the anger from Trump and his allies.
“Look, I’m in the incumbent protection program here. That’s what I do,” Johnson said when asked about Trump’s threat to primary Massie.
“I bless those who persecute me, right? So, Thomas and I have had disagreements, but I consider Thomas Massie a friend,” Johnson added.
“He’s a thoughtful guy. I guess he’ll tell you he’s doing what he thinks is right on this. I just vehemently disagree with his position. But I’ll leave it at that.”
