Many folks weren’t ready, or maybe they didn’t care enough about their TV signal quality to upgrade. But nearly eight years ago, it happened anyway, and the United States finally threw out its old rabbit-ear antennas—no matter how much it hurt.

The effort started slowly, with a test conducted by 25 television stations on November 1, 1998, according to a FCC report on the formulation of digital TV technology. The feeds, based in the 10 largest television markets, were very limited at first. A 1998 CNN report noted that one of the first programs to show up in a digital format was a screening of 101 Dalmatians, which only people who owned $5,000 television sets (or bought adapters for their not-as-good screens) could afford to see in the high-quality format.

Mandated by law to see the change through, the commission often buckled to keep the transition on track, even as the prices of digital televisions went down from $5,000 to $150.

And the job was messy. Former FCC chair Michael Powell often found himself in the unenviable position of trying to clean up a massive, bureaucratic mess. As early as October of 2001, Powell had to set up a task force intended to fix the problems around the transition.

“The DTV transition is a massive and complex undertaking. Although I’m often asked what the FCC is going to do to ‘fix’ the DTV transition, I believe that a big part of the problem were the unrealistic expectations set by the 2006 target date for return of the analog spectrum,” Powell said in an October 2001 news release. “This Task Force will help us re-examine the assumptions on which the Commission based its DTV policies, and give us the ability to react and make necessary adjustments.”

And those adjustments kept happening. For years, the federal government passed regulations or legislation to kick the can down the road as many times as it could. In the midst of a major housing and financial crisis in late 2008 and early 2009, the Bush and Obama administrations repeatedly found themselves having to deal with one small piece of legislation or another related to the digital transition. At a time when things were going to hell in a handbasket, we couldn’t even rely on TV to be a source of comfort.

(It wasn’t cheap, either: The U.S. government earmarked $1.5 billion to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration as part of its program to allow Americans to buy $40 digital converters for their analog TV sets. Despite the more than $2 billion the government paid to ease the transition, millions weren’t ready, despite the fact it was widely promoted pretty much everywhere.)

In a shocking incident in the United States, a repeat offender on probation allegedly punched an NYPD woman officer in Bronx. A video of the arrest caught on camera has also surfaced online. According to reports, the offender Ernst Delma punched the female officer in the face, thereby knocking her to the ground. The 49-second clip shows the woman officer's colleague moving in on the suspect and taking him down by pinning the accused to the ground. The New Year was officially moved to January 1st, a date with no natural significance, severing the people’s spiritual and practical ties to the equinox. Though the Catholic world was ordered to comply, not everyone was so quick to abandon their ancient traditions.

For decades—perhaps even centuries—many continued to celebrate the old New Year around the Spring Equinox, culminating in early April. These were the holdouts, the ones who clung to what had always been.

But history is written by the victors. And the victors do not simply change dates; they change perceptions.

A smear campaign began, branding those who celebrated the New Year in April as “fools.” They were mocked, ridiculed, and made the butt of jokes—leading to the tradition of April Fool’s Day. What had once been a sacred time of renewal and natural alignment was twisted into an occasion for deception and trickery. The real joke, however, was played on the world at large, as most would forget why this transition happened at all.

with his child. The woman had allegedly raped the 14-year-old boy a year ago in Arkansas of the United States.According to a report in The Sun, a witness told police the woman is pregnant with the victim's child after a year of sexual abuse.


The sexual abuse came to light when a person informed the state's child abuse hotline about the 14-year-old's sexual relationship with Brittni Gray.



In September, a witness, who claimed that he saw the duo having sex, informed it to police.The witness told the police that Brittni Gray was in a sexual relationship with the 14-year-old for over a year. The witness also told the police that Gray was now pregnant with the victim's child.The report said the cops have confirmed that Gray was pregnant. She was arrested on March 1 of this year. She was released on Thursday after posting a $5,000 bond. She will appear before the court on April 23.

⁣It feels like there have been staggering science stories emerging every other day recently, all of which have blown our tiny little minds.
First, there was the discovery of a terrifying black hole pointing right at us, then there was a huge hole found in the sun and a missing continent found after going missing for 375 years.
Now, people are only just realising that there’s a massive ocean hidden under the Earth’s crust.
It turns out there’s a huge supply of water 400 miles underground stored in rock known as 'ringwoodite'.
Scientists previously discovered that water is stored inside mantle rock in a sponge-like state, which isn’t a liquid, solid or a gas, but instead a fourth state.
The scientific paper titled ‘Dehydration melting at the top of the lower mantle’ was published in 2014 and laid out the findings.
"The ringwoodite is like a sponge, soaking up water, there is something very special about the crystal structure of ringwoodite that allows it to attract hydrogen and trap water," said geophysicist Steve Jacobsen at the time.
"This mineral can contain a lot of water under conditions of the deep mantle,” added Jacobsen, who was part of the team behind the discovery.
He added: "I think we are finally seeing evidence for a whole-Earth water cycle, which may help explain the vast amount of liquid water on the surface of our habitable planet. Scientists have been looking for this missing deep water for decades."
Scientists made the findings at the time after studying earthquakes and discovering that seismometers were picking up shockwaves under the surface of the Earth.
From that, they were able to establish that the water was being held in the rock known as ringwoodite.
If the rock contained just 1 per cent water, it would mean that there is three times more water under the surface of the Earth than there is in the oceans on the surface.

⁣817.44 Intentional false advertising prohibited.—
(1) WHAT CONSTITUTES INTENTIONAL FALSE ADVERTISING.—It
is unlawful to offer for sale or to issue invitations for offers for
the sale of any property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, or
any services, professional or otherwise, by placing or causing to be
placed before the general public, by any means whatever, an
advertisement describing such property or services as part of a plan or
scheme with the intent not to sell such property or services so
advertised, or with the intent not to sell such property or services at
the price at which it was represented in the advertisement to be
available for purchase by any member of the general public.
(2) PRESUMPTION OF VIOLATION.—The
failure to sell any article or a class of articles advertised, or the
refusal to sell at the price at which it was advertised to be available
for purchase, shall create a rebuttable presumption of an intent to
violate this section.
(3) EXEMPTION.—This
section shall not apply to any publisher of a newspaper, magazine or
other publication, or the owner or operator of a radio station,
television station or other advertising media, who places before the
public an advertisement in good faith without knowledge that the person
so engaging or hiring such owner, operator, or publisher has the intent
not to sell the property or services so advertised or with the intent
not to sell such property or services at the price at which it was
represented in the advertisement to be available for purchase by any
member of the general public.
