The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension has the ingredients to appeal to '80s genre nostalgics and modern superhero fans alike.

Since it premiered in theaters in 1984, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension has never received a movie or television follow-up. Given the film generated poor box office returns and mixed critical reviews at the time, this is perhaps not surprising. And yet, tie-in novels, comics and games have been created due to the sustained audience interest in polymath scientist and rock star Dr. Buckaroo Banzai and his backing band, the Hong Kong Cavaliers. In a modern media landscape whose nostalgia for the 1980s has made it ripe for revivals of discarded sci-fi properties, Buckaroo Banzai's tongue-in-cheek superheroics and esoterically eclectic lore might not be too hip for the room any longer.

Per his film's title, Dr. Banzai's adventures across the 8th dimension see him run afoul of the rival racial factions of interdimensional aliens known as Black and Red Lectroids, whose contested homeworld is the hidden "Planet 10." The viscerally organic aesthetic of the Lectroids' 8th Dimension might remind Stranger Things fans of the dark, decaying mirror reality they've come to know as "the Upside Down." Just as the Mind Flayer and Vecna have attempted to lead invasions from the Upside Down into our world, so too have the Red Lectroids been mobilized by their despotic military leader, Lord John Whorfin. While the human psychokinetic Henry Creel was psychotic long before Eleven and the Upside Down transformed him into Vecna, Whorfin gained a foothold in our universe by possessing the brain of Italian scientist and Princeton professor Dr. Emilio Lizardo.

The recent revival of fellow '80s sci-fi property Quantum Leap shifted from the original show's solo hero and hologram sidekick to a full-fledged ensemble support crew. But Buckaroo Banzai was always about more than just its title character. The Hong Kong Cavaliers weren't just Banzai's backing band but his fellow adventurers. Imagine Tony Stark as the frontman of an Avengers-based musical supergroup. From "Perfect Tommy" and Reno Nevada to Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Sidney Zweibel, aka "New Jersey," each of Banzai's bandmates is heavily implied to be a specialist in their own field of expertise.

Banzai's snappy patter with his Hong Kong Cavaliers might seem prescient to fans of teams such as the Avengers or the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU, or even the Suicide Squad or the support crew for Peacemaker in the DCEU. GONZALES COUNTY, Texas (KSAT) - An RV park is now the center of a story that is hard to believe happened.

It started with a threat on a school bus and ended with investigators possibly solving a two-year homicide case and the suspect at the center of this is a 10-year-old boy.

According to the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office, the 10-year-old boy admitted he killed a man when he was just 7 years old.

Law enforcement said the child will not be charged with the homicide because he is too young.

The victim’s father, Kenneth Rasberry, said he could not believe that a child was the person investigators say killed his son, Brandon Rasberry.

Brandon Rasberry, 32, was found dead at the Lazy J RV Park in Nixon on January 18, 2022.

Investigators said that at the time, the boy had been staying with his grandfather who lived in that RV park.

Authorities said the boy told them he grabbed a 9mm gun out of his grandfather’s truck, went into Rasberry’s RV, saw him sleeping and shot him in the head. The boy also told investigators he had only seen Rasberry walking around the RV park earlier that day.

The boy’s identity has not been released because he is so young.
Investigators connected him to Rasberry’s death while they were investigating another recent case where the same boy was accused of threatening to assault and kill another student on a bus from the Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District.

When leaders from the district spoke with the child, they said he commented on shooting and killing a man two years ago.

The 10-year-old was booked on charges for the threat, but as for the death of Brandon Rasberry, the boy will not be criminally prosecuted.

He was 7 years old when the victim was killed and in the state of Texas, a child does not have criminal culpability until they are 10 years old.

A day after a lone shooter attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, Jack Black sang “Happy Birthday” to his bandmate, Kyle Gass, at the duo’s concert in Australia. The two make up the band Tenacious D.

Black told Gass to “make a wish,” and Gass said, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

Thomas Matthew Crooks, who shot at Trump, hit the former president’s ear with a bullet in what the FBI swiftly deemed an assassination attempt. Crooks was shot and killed by the authorities shortly after. Corey Comperatore, a Pennsylvania man at Trump’s rally, was also shot and killed.

Gass’s remark was called out, used as proof that the condemnation of the shooting coming from Trump’s opponents is hollow.

The video comes from a now-deleted TikTok, which was then shared on X by Greg Price, who works in communications for the State Freedom Caucus Network, a Republican organization.

Price has also written for the Daily Caller, a right-wing news outlet founded by Tucker Carlson.

“Jack Black went on stage with his band over the weekend and his bandmate said ‘don’t miss Trump next time’ to laughs from the audience,” Price tweeted. “A month ago, he was a featured speaker at Biden’s fundraiser in Los Angeles. ‘We must come together’ indeed.”

As referenced by Price, Black spoke at a June fundraiser for President Joe Biden’s campaign. In his speech, he said, “When democracy is at stake, Jack Black answers the call.”

Biden’s glitzy Hollywood fundraiser brought in tens of millions in contributions but also may have set the stage for recent backlash against his candidacy.

Price’s reference to “we must come together” seems to be about remarks Biden has made in the aftermath of the assassination attempt: On Saturday night, Biden said “Everybody must condemn” the violence, and last night he said Americans should be “standing together.”

Many responses to Price’s tweet expressed that Gass was out of line and trying to “incite violence.”

“That’s incitement to violence,” one X user replied. “He should be charged.”

“By ‘come together,’ the left means ‘obey me or I’ll kill you,’” another X user said.

And other right-wing figures have also tweeted about Gass’s statement.

“Wow. Jack Black laughs as his friend makes a birthday wish that they ‘don’t miss Trump next time.’ Jack was just @JoeBiden’s guest of honor and speaker at his Hollywood fundraiser,” Robby Starbuck tweeted. Starbuck ran for Congress as a Republican in Tennessee. “Biden supporters are inciting another attempt to assassinate President Trump. Evil and sick.”

“Jack Black’s band mate is garbage,” conservative commentator Drew Hernandez tweeted. “These people are doubling down on wanting Trump taken out because they know someone will respond.”

Chris Loesch, who is married to conservative radio host Dana Loesch, also tweeted saying that he will no longer be listening to Black’s band or watching his movies after what Gass said.

“I used to love @tenaciousd and thought Jack Black was funny. None of them or their music/movies will ever be played in our home again. Ever. Sickening,” Loesch tweeted. “Not funny and done in a foreign country is even worse. If you think it’s OK, unfollow and block me.”

This bill specifies that any product that acts as, or exposed to processes that could result in the product potentially acting as, a gene therapy or that could possibly impact, alter, or introduce genetic material or a genetic change into the user of the product or certain other people must be conspicuously labeled with the words "Potential Gene Therapy Product", and reasonable steps must be taken to ensure a potential purchaser or user is made aware of the presence of this label. If a product is known to be a gene therapy product, the product must be conspicuously labeled with the words "Gene Therapy Product"

— Missouri House Bill 1169, also known as "Product Disclosures", was a bill that would have regulated products that could alter a person's genome. The bill would have required products that could act as gene therapy or potentially impact genetic material to be labeled as such.
