Claims that COVID-19 vaccines “permanently alter your DNA” or that SARS-CoV-2 was engineered in a lab were resurrected last week based on two dubious studies. No matter how many times you think these myths have been debunked, they always come back for another installment of the same misinformation franchise.
As repetitive as I have been with respect to this, there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to antivaccine myths, misinformation, and disinformation, and that applies to COVID-19 vaccines. If public health officials and messengers had paid more attention to the tactics and tropes of the antivaccine movement, including its central conspiracy theory, maybe they would have been more prepared for the onslaught of antivaccine misinformation that was unleashed as the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were undergoing clinical trials and when they were finally initially approved under an emergency use authorization (EUA) near the end of 2020. They didn’t, and here we are, which is why, having seen it before multiple times last year, I’m faced with the return of the revenge of the antivaccine lie that mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines “permanently alter your DNA” (they don’t, nor do they “hack the software of life“, nor are they really “gene therapy“) this time from Jessica Rose, who is affiliated with James Lyons-Weiler‘s antivaccine “institute” with the humble name of Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge (IPAK). Unfortunately, Saturday I saw this zombie lie resurrected yet again in the form of an article on Substack (where the cranks who’ve been banned from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. all go) by Rose titled “It does incorporate into human DNA. ⁣WHAT ARE REFINED OILS AND WHICH ONES SHOULD YOU AVOID?

Let’s begin by clarifying that healthy fats are an essential part of healthy living. But not all fats are created equal.

Olive oil, for example, that is UNrefined, uses olives that have been pressed to extract the oil. There ARE health benefits to using pure, unrefined olive oil.

With that being said, let’s dive a little deeper in the refining process.

Definition: Oil that has been refined has been altered by using chemicals that are harmful to us. In short it means to ‘purify’.

But the meaning of purify has many definitions. It may mean the oil was treated with acid, or purified with an alkali, or bleached. It can also be neutralized, filtered or deodorized. All of which require chemicals like Hexane.

In the process of making and refining these types of oils, it leads to PUFas (rancid polyunsaturated fatty acids) which DO NOT hold up well to high heats. In the process of being extracted from the seed these oils oxidize and turn into trans fats. The smell is so rancid that a cleaning process has to take place using bleach to deodorize it.

REFINED OILS YOU SHOULD AVOID:

Canola oil
Vegetable oil
Soybean
Safflower
Corn oils
Margarine (or any other ‘buttery’ spread)

As dangerous as refined oils can be to our health, even more dangerous is the repeated use of Hydrogenated oils (Crisco and margarine). These are some of the most dangerous products on the market today! They have been BANNED in 2 European countries, but are still deemed safe in the United States.

Hydrogenated oil is made by forcing hydrogen gas into oil at high pressure. The more solid the oil is the more hydrogenated the end product, such as margarine and Crisco or lard.

When hydrogenated oils are made the healthy fats are converted into a new type of fat, known as trans fat. This is one subject that has overwhelming support from Doctors, scholars, and scientists alike.

Trans fats should be avoided while healthy fats (found in olive oil, nuts and avocados) should be eaten.

Trans fats are so bad for you, the FDA estimated approximately 95% of prepared cookies, 100% of crackers and 80% of frozen breakfast products contained trans fats [source: Govt Publishing Office]

Now that trans fats have to be labeled on products, most companies have removed them from their products. Sneaky, huh?

WE CAN CONTROL WHAT WE BUY AND PREPARE IN OUR OWN HOMES, BUT WHAT IF WE DINE OUT? HOW CAN WE KNOW WHAT TYPES OF OILS RESTAURANTS ARE USING?

California’s governor recently signed legislation to phase out trans fats from restaurants and baked goods in bakeries [Natl Conference of State Legislatures] and New York city became the largest city in the nation to demand restaurants, cafeterias and schools go trans free.

The best advice I can give is to ASK. Don’t be shy to ask the waiter if the salad dressing is made in house or store bought. Ask what types of oils they use when they cook. Don’t turn a blind eye.

Most restaurants will put the bottom line (their profits) over your health. I hate to say that, but it’s true.

SO WHICH OILS ARE SAFE THEN?

1. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Although Extra virgin olive oil contains a high amount of saturated fat (about 12%) it is one of the few unrefined oils. This means the antioxidants in the original fruit are retained because the oil is extracted by machine only.

Olive oil is usually good 3-12 months after it has been bottled. After 2 years you can expect the fruity flavors to begin disappearing. It is best to buy your oil from a local store that specializes in oils. Purchase them in smaller quantities so they are not sitting in your pantry for months. And NEVER store them over the stove. Keep the bottle sealed and avoid light if possible.

2. Olive oil

This can be tricky because plain olive oil is usually a blend of refined, virgin and extra virgin olive oils. Read the label to know what you are getting.

3. Organic Butter

Butter, like eggs and coconut oil, have been given a bad rap. These are the same marketers who said aspartame and margarine were healthy choices! Butter is a good, safe, WHOLE FOOD choice.

The best choice would be butter from raw milk grass fed cows and the second choice, which is more accessible to most of us, is organic, which is from milk of grass fed cows with NO rBGH injected into them.

4. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is the least fattening of all oils. It got a bad rap back in the 1970s, but the misinformation out there is outdated and coconut oil is one of the better oils for you.

Fact: The viral video was originally reported in China in 2021. The explosion was not caused by magnetic fields, as the magnetic fields produced by the battery are too weak to trigger an explosion. The explosion is more likely attributable to factors such as battery modification or overheating. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Incident reported in China:

The viral video depicts an incident originally reported in China in 2021. A Google search using relevant keywords revealed several Chinese news reports featuring the same footage from 2021. However, these reports did not specify the location or cause of the explosion (here, here & here).

Further research uncovered recent reports featuring the same footage. According to these reports, the incident in the viral video occurred in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, China, in 2021 (here, here, & here). None of these reports mentioned the battery’s magnetic field as the cause of the explosion.

Additionally, these reports highlighted that, following Shanghai authorities’ revision of rules banning electric bicycles or their batteries from being brought indoors or into elevators, the video of the old incident is being shared for reference and awareness purposes.

Previously, Shanghai authorities banned bringing e-bike batteries indoors and prohibited commercial activities related to the assembly, addition, or modification of e-bikes (here, here & here). This government action came after multiple incidents of battery explosions caused by modifications and overheating (here).

A similar incident was reported in Singapore:

A similar incident involving an EV battery explosion in an elevator was reported in Singapore in 2021. According to the investigation, authorities determined that battery modifications were one of the causes of the explosion.

Many other social media posts are sharing the same viral video, alleging it shows this incident that occurred in Singapore. However, the viral video is not related to the Singapore incident. Circumstantial evidence supports this, as the reports on the Singapore incident included visuals that differ from the viral video. Specifically, the paintings on the wall adjacent to the elevator in the Singapore incident are different from those in the viral video (here & here).

Additionally, regarding the Singapore incident, these reports highlighted that after hearing screams, people from other flats on the lower floor rushed to the scene and extinguished the lift fire with buckets of water. In contrast, the viral video shows a couple waiting for the lift, observing the fire, and attempting to put it out using extinguishers (here & here). These differences further support that the viral video is not related to the incident reported in Singapore.

Magnetic field did not cause the fire:

The electric field inside a conductor is zero when there is no net movement of charge across it. In an ideal state, batteries do not produce a magnetic field. Magnetic fields are only generated during the charging or discharging of a battery. However, these magnetic fields are weak and not strong enough to cause an explosion (here).

The viral video clearly shows that the battery is not connected to any power sources. While external magnetic fields can affect batteries, their impact is minimal (here, here & here). Furthermore, the metal surface of the elevator does not generate a significant magnetic field, as there is no net movement of charge across it. Therefore, the elevator surface cannot influence the battery through magnetic fields (here). As a result, the claim that magnetic fields caused the fire in the viral incident is not substantiated.

Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson responded to this weekend’s violent “teen takeover” of the Windy City’s downtown area by urging the public not to “demonize” the hordes of rampaging young people who set cars on fire, clashed with cops and damaged private property.

Johnson, a progressive Democrat and former teachers union organizer who was elected mayor earlier this month, released a statement Sunday reacting to the disorder in his city that resulted in a shooting and more than a dozen arrests.

“In no way do I condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and lakefront this weekend. It is unacceptable and has no place in our city,” Johnson stated. “However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”

He continued: “Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains welcome for both residents and visitors.”

Johnson, 47, added that it is his goal as mayor to “improve public safety and make Chicago livable for everyone.”

Two nights of unrest, which were organized on social media, saw packs of out-of-control teens clash with cops, brawl with one another, vandalize property, and break into and set cars on fire.

One video showed several youngsters jump and dance atop a city bus.

Chicago police said two minors, ages 16 and 17, were wounded when someone in the crowd on East Washington Street opened fire.

No arrests have been made in that incident.

The incoming mayor’s response to the teen-led chaos was met with a swift backlash from conservatives on social media.

“Chicago is so screwed,” wrote Collin Rugg, co-owner of the right-wing news outlet Trending Politics.

“Incredible statement to those who saw the videos of violence and destruction. ‘Don’t demonize youth,’ for a little pop-up riot. It’s actually YOUR fault they did this,” tweeted Mike Cernovich, a conservative conspiracy theorist.

Other critics warned that Johnson’s reaction to the unrest a month before his inauguration did not bode well for Chicago’s future.

“Chicago about to fall to Detroit & Baltimore levels of ruin,” one user wrote, while another predicted: “Chicago will see more of this with Brandon Johnson as mayor. The exodus of businesses, residents and visitors from downtown is only going to get worse. Lawlessness is becoming rampant.”

Chicago’s outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot also released a statement addressing the “teen takeover.”

She said that while many of the youngsters gathered to have a good time and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather, she conceded that some were involved in “reckless, disrespectful and unlawful behavior.”

“As I have said before, we as a city cannot and will not allow any of our public spaces to become a platform for criminal conduct,” Lightfoot wrote. “Most importantly, parents and guardians must know where their children are and be responsible for their actions. Instilling the important values of respect for people and property must begin at home.”

Hundreds — and possibly as many as 1,000 — teens converged on the Chicago Loop for “Teen Takeover” in response to social media posts about a planned gathering near Millennium Park.

Police responded and turned away many minors from the park.

But a witness reported that despite increased police presence, cops “were still outnumbered.”

At least 15 people, among them six juveniles, were arrested in connection with the unrest. Most reportedly were charged with reckless conduct.

At the end of WW2, at a time when the German army was all but defeated and retreating on all fronts, the Allied forces launched a joint British and American indiscriminate aerial fire bombing attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony,

Dresden was a cultural landmark with little strategic significance whose main export was dolls and cigarettes and provided no value to the German war industry. At that time, it housed hundreds of thousands of refugees that fled from the east as it was one of the only cities that remained relatively untouched from the war.

The purpose of the attack was to inflict maximum civilian casualties possible and to decimate the refugees that had fled there. In a memo sent to the Chiefs of Staff Committee by Air Marshal Sir Douglas Evill on 1 February, Evill states interfering with mass civilian movements was a key factor in the decision to bomb the city centre.

Attacking main railway junctions, telephone systems, city administration, and utilities would result in "chaos."

Estimates total the number of civilians casualties from the bombings to be around 200k-500k, including innocent men, women, and children who suffered the most brutal fate imaginable.

Bodies were incinerated and reduced to puddles of congealed fat on the concrete as temperatures reached 3000 degrees Farenheit. Nothing in sight was left standing. Those who made out alive were then targeted in the subsequent waves of attacks by allied bombers.

Allied propaganda has re-written history to claim the total number of casualties to be around 25k in order to cover up their involvement in a genocide of the German people and one of the most horrific crimes against humanity to ever be committed to date.

Why isn't this holocaust in schools? Where are the museums and memorials to commemorate it? Why weren't they paid out reparations? Where are the laws criminalizing the trivilization of the number of casualties in the historical record?

Few titles start with the word "and"; a more logical title would be "You And I." Jon Anderson told us why the conjunction appears at the beginning: "I sang it that way as I was writing it with Steve (Howe) and it just stuck: 'And you and I climb over the sea to the valley.' It's all about the reasons that we have to call our connection with the Divine. So it was something that just rhythmically worked."

Rick Wakeman, who played keyboards on this track, said, "It has different movements which all go into each other. The object was having a piece of music that was everything that the Yes critics hated us for and the Yes fans loved us for, which was emotion."

This was a highlight of the band's live shows, and one of their favorites to play in concert. The Close To The Edge album was conceived with live performance in mind, which was prescient considering they were still performing it more than 40 years later.

They played it start-to-finish along with The Yes Album and Going for the One on a tour that spanned March 2013 - June 2014. When the group resumed touring in July, they once again played the full album, this time along with Fragile.

In a 2014 interview with Chris Squire, he said: "The audiences respond real well to hearing the music in that format. It reminds them of when they first heard probably what was a vinyl album."
