A defendant has attacked a judge during a felony battery case, dragging her to the floor and sparking a brawl involving court officials and attorneys, officials and witnesses have said.

In a violent scene captured on courtroom video on Wednesday, Deobra Delone Redden jumped over a defence table and the judge’s bench, knocking the Clark county district judge Mary Kay Holthus from her seat and against a wall then pulled her to the floor. She sustained some injuries but was not sent to the hospital, courthouse officials said.

A courtroom marshal was also injured as he came to the judge’s aid and was hospitalised for treatment to a gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder, according to the officials and witnesses.

The attack occurred at about 11am (local time) at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas.

Redden, 30, was wrestled to the floor behind the judge’s bench by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members.

He was arrested and jailed at the Clark county detention centre, where records showed he faces several new felony charges, including battery on a protected person, referring to the judge and court officers.

“It happened so fast it was hard to know what to do,” said Richard Scow, the chief county district attorney who prosecuted Redden on a case that stemmed from an arrest last year over allegations that Redden attacked a person with a baseball bat.

Redden’s defence attorney, Caesar Almase, did not respond to requests for comment.

Redden was not in custody when he arrived at court on Wednesday. He wore a white shirt and dark pants as he stood next to Almase, asking the judge for leniency while describing himself as “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is”.

“I’m not a rebellious person,” he told the judge, later adding that he did not think he should be sent to prison. “But if it’s appropriate for you then you have to do what you have to do.”

As the judge made it clear she intended to send him to prison, and the court marshal moved to handcuff him, Redden yelled expletives and charged forward amid screams from members of the public in the courtroom.

Records showed Redden, a Las Vegas resident, was evaluated and found mentally competent to stand trial before pleading guilty in November to a reduced charge of attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm. He had previously served prison time in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction, state records show.

Holthus, a career prosecutor with more than 27 years of court experience, was elected to the state court bench in 2018 and again in 2022.

In a statement, the court spokesperson Mary Ann Price said officials were “reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees”.

Strong, credible allegations of high-level criminal activity can bring down a government. When the government lacks an effective, fact-based defense, other techniques must be employed. The success of these techniques depends heavily upon a cooperative, compliant press and a mere token opposition party.

Dummy up. If it's not reported, if it's not news, it didn't happen.

Wax indignant. This is also known as the "How dare you?" gambit.

Characterize the charges as "rumors" or, better yet, "wild rumors." If, in spite of the news blackout, the public is still able to learn about the suspicious facts, it can only be through "rumors." (If they tend to believe the "rumors" it must be because they are simply "paranoid" or "hysterical.")

Knock down straw men. Deal only with the weakest aspects of the weakest charges. Even better, create your own straw men. Make up wild rumors (or plant false stories) and give them lead play when you appear to debunk all the charges, real and fanciful alike.

Call the skeptics names like "conspiracy theorist," "nutcase," "ranter," "kook," "crackpot," and, of course, "rumor monger." Be sure, too, to use heavily loaded verbs and adjectives when characterizing their charges and defending the "more reasonable" government and its defenders. You must then carefully avoid fair and open debate with any of the people you have thus maligned. For insurance, set up your own "skeptics" to shoot down.

Impugn motives. Attempt to marginalize the critics by suggesting strongly that they are not really interested in the truth but are simply pursuing a partisan political agenda or are out to make money (compared to over-compensated adherents to the government line who, presumably, are not).

Invoke authority. Here the controlled press and the sham opposition can be very useful.

Dismiss the charges as "old news."

Come half-clean. This is also known as "confession and avoidance" or "taking the LIMITED HANGOUT route." This way, you create the impression of candor and honesty while you admit only to relatively harmless, less-than-criminal "mistakes." This stratagem often requires the embrace of a fall-back position quite different from the one originally taken. With effective damage control, the fall-back position need only be peddled by stooge skeptics to carefully limited markets.

Characterize the crimes as impossibly complex and the truth as ultimately unknowable.

Reason backward, using the deductive method with a vengeance. With thoroughly rigorous deduction, troublesome evidence is irrelevant. E.g. We have a completely free press. If evidence exists that the Vince Foster "suicide" note was forged, they would have reported it. They haven't reported it so there is no such evidence. Another variation on this theme involves the likelihood of a conspiracy leaker and a press who would report the leak.

Require the skeptics to solve the crime completely. E.g. If Foster was murdered, who did it and why?

Change the subject. This technique includes creating and/or publicizing distractions.

Lightly report incriminating facts, and then make nothing of them. This is sometimes referred to as "bump and run" reporting.

Baldly and brazenly lie. A favorite way of doing this is to attribute the "facts" furnished the public to a plausible-sounding, but anonymous, source.

Expanding further on numbers 4 and 5, have your own stooges "expose" scandals and champion popular causes. Their job is to pre-empt real opponents and to play 99-yard football. A variation is to pay rich people for the job who will pretend to spend their own money.

⁣Flood the Internet with agents. This is the answer to the question, "What could possibly motivate a person to spend hour upon hour on Internet news groups defending the government and/or the press and harassing genuine critics?" Don t the authorities have defenders enough in all the newspapers, magazines, radio, and television? One would think refusing to print critical letters and screening out serious callers or dumping them from radio talk shows would be control enough, but, obviously, it is not.

The role of the boy playing the Banjo (the banjo boy) was played by Billy Redden, a local teenager in Georgia. He was selected for a role in Deliverance from his school in Georgia by the director John Boorman. But he didn’t see much money from it and worked at a Walmart to earn his living.

The banjo-playing teen star of the 1972 thriller film Deliverance looks unrecognizable more than five decades after the movie's release as he turns his back on showbiz.

51 years after the film hit theaters, movie lovers are still gushing over the unique character who strummed a banjo in many memorable scenes. However, he has since done his best to vanish from the spotlight and now looks shockingly different from his character.

Billy Redden, now 66, shot to fame when he was just 15 years old by portraying Lonnie, a 'backwoods mountain boy' who blew everyone away with his banjo skills.

Since the film's release, he turned his back on both Hollywood and the banjo as he now takes on a string of jobs to make ends meet and looks nothing like he did when he rose to stardom over 50 years ago.

At the time of the film, Billy wasn't a trained actor but lived in Rabun County, Georgia, which is where the movie was shot.

He was cast due to his thin figure and narrow eyes that made him look like the perfect man for the part.

But, now, Billy looks completely different than he once did at 15.

He was last seen sporting a short haircut, glasses, and slight scruff as he held onto his reliable banjo.

The flick starred Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox, and Jon Voight. The actors play four city-slicker pals who take a canoeing trip to Georgia.

The friends are determined to take one last trip down a river, however, it quickly takes a dark turn.

Things get even more heated when the businessmen develop an attitude with the locals, prompting the character Drew to enter a musical duel with Lonnie.

Despite the scene becoming famously known as the dueling banjos, it was later revealed that Billy had to wear a special shirt that allowed someone else to stick their hands through and play the banjo during filming since Billy wasn't musically trained.

Following the release of the movie, Billy tried to hold onto his fame for a short period by organizing tourist trips down the Chattooga River, which was featured in the movie.

He played 'banjo man' in a number of other films, including Tim Burton’s 2003 hit Big Fish, Outrage: Born in Terror, Blue Collar TV, and Blastfighter.

He officially left showbiz behind in 2009 and took on other jobs such as a cook, dishwasher, and store associate at Walmart to get by.

Since his departure from the spotlight, he has done everything possible to get rid of the image tied to those in his county that came from the film.

In the 2012 documentary, The Deliverance of Rabun County, he said: 'We're not a bad people up here, we're a loving people. Rabun County is a pretty good town. It's real peaceful, not a lot of crime going on. Everybody pretty much gets along with everybody.'

The Whistle-Blower confessed on his deathbed to his son (the son is the man in the video). His name was Cyrus Eugene Akers (July 17, 1933-September 28, 2002) and he was one of three guards stationed at the hoax site. Air Police badge number D7596 (or maybe 07596)

A filming location was: Cannon Air Force Base (https://www.cannon.af.mil) in center of very East border of New Mexico.

Robert Emenegger, the composer, also did "video work for the Department of Defense".

Grant Norray was some FBI/CIA/NSA "Who Knows?" sort of person.

President Johnson showed up for the first day of filming. It lasted 3 days (from June 1-3, 1968) and the project was restored to original. That is, every element was removed from the area after completion, even the sand.

He says although the official .MIL site had admitted the lander and President were there at the time, they have since removed that info from the site. Not incriminating at all, especially if they want to do some PR but it does unfortunately for them make it seem like an act of guilt.

He says he never had any problems until he contacted Bart Sibrel and told him his father's story. People broke into his house multiple times. He was told to drop the project by men in black suits or he and his family "could disappear." He would like someone to be able to pick up the research and prove what he's talking about because he feels it's true and he knows his father didn't lie to him.
