âHollywoodism: Jews, Movies, and the American Dreamâ is a documentary based on the book âAn Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywoodâ, by Neal Gabler. Rife with film clips and archival footage, it provides an overview of the origins of Hollywood â of the six men who started it all, from their arrival to the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century to the mid-â50s.
Originally produced for and broadcast on A&E, it was repackaged on DVD under the title âHollywood: An Empire of Their Ownâ. I picked it up a few years ago as part of an A&E Biography boxed set featuring many documentaries on various Hollywood legends. âHollywoodismâ had been one of the more informative ones, given that it had a larger scope.
Back in the day, there were five major movie studios, all established in the â20s: 20th Century Fox, MGM, Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros. All were brought to life by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, who had lived within a 500 mile radius: William Fox, Samuel Goldwyn, Carl Laemmle, Louis B. Mayer, Henry Warner, and Adolph Zukor.
Persecuted back home, they came to America to start over. They all changed their names in a bid to leave their past behind and to be accepted in this new life. They even went so far as to hide their heritage from their children, in order to give them a fresh start. Unfortunately, their options were incredibly limited, so most of them to struggle to find work.
Before they got into the movies, motion pictures were very anti-immigrant or critical of non-white Protestants; the biggest cinematic achievement before their arrival on the scene was âBirth of a Nationâ. Racism and intolerance prevailed: it is said that Edison so wanted to keep Jews out of the business that he ended up driving them out to California.
âŚto what would become Hollywood.
These pioneers werenât easy to fell. Tough as nails, they all brought their respective studios to life within a few years. Carl Laemmle even went so far as to found Universal City, with its own postal service, police station, âŚetc. He created a small movie-making city that exists to this day (although it has morphed to a certain degree through the years).
Their personal experiences translated in the films that they made. Universal had the persecuted monsters, Warner Bros. had the little guys (the losers, âŚetc.), Columbia focused on the âcommon manâ, Paramount went with fantasy/escapism, and MGM brought class on a grand scale. On screen, their personal determination to survive translated as the will of the everyman to overcome obstacles.
Eventually, they created an image of America based on their own ideals, including a worship of the mother figure, a distrust of the father figure, and an idyllic life that was wrapped up in personal freedom, a sense of community, and patriotism. It was so popular with the masses that it became something to aspire to â an âAmerican Dreamâ that persists today.

As if in one voice, the mainstream media and self-anointed intelligentsia argued that antiquated religious sensitivities must not be allowed to interfere with either an artistâs free expression or his right to government funding regardless of how offensive his work may be to Christians.
Well, it seems that things have changed.
In Garland, Texas, on Sunday, two radical Muslims died trying to replicate the Charlie Hebdo massacre by mounting an armed attack on a âdraw Mohammedâ cartoon contest. We are not talking about drawings of Mohammed dunked in urine or smeared with animal dung. No, the gunmen apparently deemed the mere drawing of Mohammed to be an offense punishable by death.
What has been the response of the liberal media to this act of lunacy? Have the talking heads come to the defense of the cartoonistsâ right of free expression in a pluralistic society? Has anyone publicly observed that drawings of Mohammed might âjoltâ Muslims âinto an expanded frame of referenceâ or âilluminationâ? Far from it. The overall media consensus has been to blame the intended murder victims for recklessly provoking the terrorists. Such provocation, we are told, is unacceptable and irresponsible behavior given the risk of retaliation by offended radical Muslims.
By this bizarre logic, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Selma marchers should be condemned for instigating the melee on the Edmund Pettus bridge. Same for the three murdered civil-rights workers in Mississippi, the victims of Bull Connorâs police dogs, and anyone else who has taken a stand that might irritate violence-prone people.
For the mainstream media and chattering classes, dumping on peaceful, law-abiding Christians is good, safe sport. But pointing the finger of blame at murderous Muslim fanatics? Well, letâs not get carried away. Rather than draw the ire of radical Muslims by firmly and unequivocally condemning the attack, the infotainment industry has concentrated its attention on the provocative nature of the draw-Mohammed contest. After all, like a drunken, immodestly dressed rape victim, werenât the draw-Mohammed contestants just asking for it?
Better to question the wisdom of cartoonists exercising their rights than to acknowledge and vigorously confront and expose the elephant in the room, i.e., that there is a disturbingly large number of radical Muslims in this country who oppose our Constitution and who believe that murder is an appropriate sanction for those who offend Islam. That, of course, is the real story behind the attack in Texas. But to grapple with that might inflame those radicals and pose a risk to careers and corporate profits, or result in expulsion from the preening ranks of the politically correct.

Trope: Details of the Holocaust Have Been Exaggerated
Some so-called Holocaust ârevisionistsâ claim they donât deny the Holocaust happened, but simply dispute some of the findings of mainstream historians. They use this rhetorical strategy to try to avoid the moral disgust that many people feel towards Holocaust deniers, but upon examining many of their claims it is clear that their goal is indeed to deny the essential fact of the Holocaust: that approximately six million Jews were killed by the viciously antisemitic Nazi regime, including many in gas chambers.
Pseudo-academic Holocaust deniers and white supremacist, antisemitic trolls alike dispute the fact that six million Jews were killed, often claiming that the actual death toll is much lower, and many deaths were due to diseases like typhus rather than large-scale systemic murder. They also dismiss or minimize the role of the gas chambers, arguing that it was scientifically and technically impossible for the Nazis to have killed that many Jews, and the gas chambers were not used for extermination.
Holocaust deniers often highlight false or misleading statistics about the Jewish population before and after the war to support their claims. White supremacist trolls also attempt to minimize the scale of the Holocaust; their frequent use of the nonsensical phrase âsix gorillion,â a clearly made-up number, is meant to indicate they believe the six million deaths are fake as well.
Trope: Witness Testimony is Fabricated or Inaccurate
Holocaust deniers often dispute the authenticity of Holocaust survivorsâ testimonies, dismissing them as unreliable and inaccurate. They also dispute eyewitness accounts left behind by those who were murdered, claiming Jewish survivors and victims manipulate public opinion about Nazi Germany and make non-Jews feel guilty. Examples include claims that Elie Wieselâs memoir Night has no historical value or that Anne Frankâs diary is a forgery.
Trope: Jews Invented the Holocaust for Financial and Political Gain
Holocaust deniers argue that the âHolocaust hoaxâ is designed to elicit guilt from Western countries and populations, which Jews then use for financial and political gain, including by pressuring Germany for reparations to Holocaust survivors.
Deniers imagine a vast, shadowy Jewish conspiracy that controls entire institutions and industries in order to disseminate the Holocaust narrative. They allege that white, Western Christian nations have been swindled and extorted by the Jews through the perpetuation of so-called âHolocaust mythology,â including educational curricula and Holocaust museums and memorials.
These claims draw on longstanding antisemitic tropes about alleged Jewish control and greed and the conspiratorial notion that Jews are engaged in a nefarious plot to take over the world.
Trope: The Holocaust is a Zionist Political Tool
For decades, anti-Zionism has been an important element of Holocaust denial. Many deniers, drawing on tropes about Jews being greedy and deceitful, claim that Jews invented the Holocaust âstoryâ in order to manipulate global powers and gain support for the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. They also claim that Zionists have continued to exaggerate or fabricate the scale of the Holocaust to increase political and financial support for Israel during periods of conflict with other countries, to distract from Israelâs actions against Palestinians and to silence Israelâs critics.
Hardcore Holocaust denial organizations and ideologues also push the narrative that the collective stifling of Holocaust denial is an example of supposed global Zionist control and the power of the âIsrael lobby.â These arguments lean toward broader conspiracy theories about alleged attempts by âglobalists,â âelites,â Jews and Zionists to control discourse across the world.
âŁTrope: Jews are Responsible for Their Own Persecution
Some Holocaust deniers choose to blame the victims while also denying the most heinous crimes of the Holocaust. This trope alleges that, to the extent that Jews were targeted, it was due to direct Jewish collaboration with Hitlerâs regime, and that those Jews who did die during this period were causalities of a Zionist-led and financed effort to work with Nazis directly in order to establish the State of Israel and persuade Jews to emigrate there. These deniers see no contradiction between denying the existence of the gas chambers and the Final Solution, and blaming Zionists for whatever Jewish persecution they acknowledge actually occurred.
The promotion of this trope distorts historical facts by downplaying the responsibility of the Nazis in perpetrating the Holocaust and reframing specific events both prior to and during World War II to fit their narrative. It also serves to portray Zionists historically and today as callous, deceitful and evil people who will take any actions necessary to achieve their goals.

About Chuck

The sub-genre of mockbusters has been celebrated (albeit somewhat ironically) for years, with a brisk trade in VHS tapes and copied DVDs. Now, many of the âclassicsâ of that genre are freely available on the internet, often with recently-added English subtitles.
While the likes of Asylum studio in America are currently doing fine with modern straight-to-DVD rip-offs and Bollywood regularly steals from American films (ânow with added dancingâ), few do it better than the Turks did. Some spectacular mockbusters were made in the 1970s and â80s in Turkey that really need to be seen to be believed. The most famous of the collection is the âTurkish Star Warsâ.
In 1982, director Ăetin Inanç made a film called DĂźnyay Kurtaran Adam, which translates as âThe Man Who Saves the Worldâ. It would become famous by its unofficial title âTurkish Star Warsâ. This was mostly due to the wholly unauthorised use of spliced-in footage from George Lucasâ â77 original that Inanç used for many of his filmâs scenes. Not all of them made sense in context and they were all in a different aspect ratio to the rest of the film. But that didnât stop the sticky-fingered director, who seemed to have a plan that consisted of stealing clips and music from wherever he could. He filled the rest of the (very loose) narrative with his own actors, and although the plot doesnât follow the original Star Wars shot-for-shot (far from it) itâs very clear what film is mostly being copied.
Inançâs film, and numerous others like it, was made because around that time the Turkish film board wasnât letting many Western blockbusters into the country. Inanç had started out making erotica, but following the military coup dâĂŠtat of the country in 1980 and the passing of new censorship laws, he decided to move into propaganda and action films instead. He soon gained the nickname âjet directorâ due to his penchant for making entire films in just ten days.
Unfortunately, the lack of money at his disposal and minimal time spent on his films was clearly evident in the final products.
As well as stealing actual footage from Star Wars, other gaps in the film â and budget â were filled with stock footage of the Russian space programme and old newsreel clips of NASA rocket launches. And when it came to the original effects shot in Turkey, itâs evident that no expense was spent.
They did a least have a recognised actor. The filmâs star was CĂźneyt Arkin, who far from being a desperate B-movie jobber was one of the biggest actors in the country at the time. (He is now considered a legend of Turkish cinema, with over 250 films to his name.) Arkin was a qualified doctor but, more relevantly, was also a trained martial arts expert. So rather than lightsaber fights there are a lot of hand-to-hand combat scenes that make good use of his skills. One scene in particular â the training montage â has become cult viewing. While such scenes have become a clichĂŠ to the point that even doing a parody of it is now clichĂŠd, this one is bewilderingly fantastic. At one point the hero kicks a boulder into a wall causing an explosion. The fact that itâs all set to the Giorgio Moroder version of the Battlestar Galactica theme just makes it somehow better. And weirder.
In fact, the whole soundtrack is a rip-off, but as with the montage, rather than just taking the original Star Wars music by John Williams, it also makes use of other famous scores. Along with Battlestar Galacticaâs music, the director also incorporates the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme tune; at other points it âborrowsâ music from Flash Gordon, Moonraker, Planet of the Apes, Silent Running and even uses Bachâs âToccata and Fugue in D Minorâ.
It was not uncommon at the time for soundtracks and characters from other films to be used in Turkish cinema. For example, in one of the Turkish Batman films, the villain looks suspiciously like a total rip-off of Ernst Blofeld from the James Bond series. Those suspicions are confirmed when you see him in one scene with a cat on his lap and then, just in case you still werenât sure, the famous John Barry 007 theme strikes up.
While some of the martial art skills on display in DĂźnyayÄą Kurtaran Adam are fairly decent, it seems strange to see them being used in the famous Alderaan cantina scene on home-made aliens that look like Sesame Street puppets. At one point, a large Elmo look-alike is karate-chopped in half. All of this is intercut with actual Star Wars alien footage and with a ropey cover of the cantina bands music playing in the background.
Along the way we see a copy of Robbie the Robot from Lost In Space, working for someone who is clearly based on Ming the Merciless. There are skeletons on horseback, zombies, slave girls, â50s style spacemen, two golden ninjas and a big furry monster that even the props department from early Doctor Who episodes would laugh at. This creatureâs voice was seemingly over-dubbed by someone going âGrrrrrâŚraaaahâ in post-production. Itâs all a wonderful mess, but other than the unintentional hilarity, the only thing going for it compared to the Lucas series is the complete absence of Jar Jar Binks.
Although not a success at the box office, it spawned a sequel â Son Of The Man Who Saves The World. Arkin continued to get regular work although his last film in 2008 was a poorly-received Turkish sex comedy that currently has an IMDb score of 1.8 out of ten.
Turkish Star Wars, however, has become cult viewing, with surprisingly regular public screenings, and it has led to director Ăetin Inanç being celebrated as the Turkish Ed Wood. Inanç would go on to make rip offs of Jaws and Rambo (see right) during the â80s, but Turkish Star Wars will forever be his magnum opus.
Despite the fact that the film infringes on a huge number of copyrights, the film itself is seemingly not in copyright so is free in the public domain to view or download via the excellent http://archive.org. Itâs worth seeing, if only so the next time someone says to you that the latest Hollywood film was the worst film they have ever seen, youâll be able to reply, âHang on, have you ever seen Turkish Star Wars?â
Six other Turkish mockbusters
Korkusuz (1986)
Translated as âRampageâ, this is the Turkish version of Rambo, and despite the low standard set by the American original this still falls comically short. His rocket launcher appears to be a childâs toy that barely shoots more than six feet, but that doesnât stop the many explosions in the distance and hammy deaths galore.
Badi (1983)
Special effects are tricky to do with no budget, but that didnât stop the Turks making their own version of E.T. using a child in a rubber alien suit. It emits smoke from its rear end and some scenes are speeded up, but then it veers from slapstick comedy to heartbreaking scenes of animal death that would give Kes a run for its money. The sequel (Homoti) features an alien with a visible zip on his back.
Seytan (1974)
The Exorcist gets the treatment with a plot that pretty much follows the original (except being Turkish instead of using the Bible they use the Muslim Holy book) while the famous scene with the possessed child in bed is like a strange parody. That said, itâs not as bad as the others listed here. Sure itâs not going to have you leaving the lights on at night, but weâve seen worse effects in recent B-movies.
SĂźpermen DĂśnĂźyor (1979)
This version of Superman has some truly horrible flying special-effects and the fight scenes are comically choreographed, in places looking more like an episode of The Benny Hill Show. In its defence, however, unlike the Indian Superman rip off, at least his Turkish counterpart doesnât occasionally break into a very camp dance routine for no reason.
ĂĂśl (1983)
In the Turkish version of Jaws, along with the famous shark (and its visibly peeling paint job) there are martial arts fights, high-speed car chases and in the middle of the film, an exotic dance sequence. Purists will be glad to see the famous John William theme is used, but also present one the soundtrack are Survivorâs âEye of the Tigerâ from Rocky and instrumental cover version of Led Zeppelinâs âWhole Lotta Loveâ.
Turist Ămer Uzay Yolunda (1974)
The Star Trek rip-off was loosely based on one of the 1966 episodes of the original TV series and notably would have had a budget of about the same. And, rather than an American soundstage they got to use the actual ruins at Ephesus as a setting for an alien planet, yet still this comes off as pretty terrible. The addition of a comedy Turkish tramp named Ămer the Tourist (mentioned in the title) really doesnât add to Gene Roddenberryâs original vision.

After many attempts to gather the original actors in the film to create a sequel to The Man Who Saved the World, a follow-up, The Son of the Man Who Saved the World (DĂźnyayÄą Kurtaran Adam'Äąn OÄlu), commonly known as Turks in Space, was shot in 2006.
The sequel was released on 15 December 2006. Some fans expressed their disapproval that the special effects were not similar to the original film, where all the space scenes were ripped directly from science fiction titles of the time, such as Star Wars, the Star Trek series, and Battlestar Galactica. Famous actors from Turkey, such as Mehmet Ali Erbil took part, and Kartal Tibet directed.

It's curious that all the symptoms of so-called COVID match those of Radiation Sickness. Also, if you do some deep research, you will find out that frequencies adversely affect the human body and are actually likely the cause of MOST illnesses today.
ATTACKING THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

SYMPTOMS OF BEING HIT WITH MICROWAVES
At the time when microwave output is being ramped up, persons exposed to it will feel a sensation of heat on the face and sometimes on the body but no fever will be present.
They will then experience a weird odor in the air as if the oxygen is literally being fried out of the atmosphere. At the same time, they will have a hissing in the ears, which is the bodily sensory apparatus sensing the incoming radiation. At very intense levels, the brain will feel like it is "sizzling."
LUNG AND HEART ISSUES RISING DRAMATICALLY
While all those sensations are happening, the lungs and organs of the thorax are being attacked by the frequencies, often resulting in respiratory illness of one sort or another. In other words, frequencies can vastly disrupt bodily functions and can be used, at will, by the Controllers, to "cause" a wave of illness or even deaths across the nation, which they could then blame on this or that virus.
