⁣TUSCON, AZ (AZFamily) — One of the most notorious Arizona prisoners is the sole suspect in a mass killing at a Tucson prison. Now he’s sharing in his own words how and why he carried these murders out, and when he gave prison officials a warning that it would happen.

And it did happen in April, leading to major security concerns within the corrections department.

Go back two decades, when Ricky Wassenaar was responsible for one of the longest prison standoffs in U.S. history. In 2004, he and another inmate held guards hostage in a Lewis prison tower for more than two weeks. One said she was raped.

Now, he not only admitted he is a killer but said he had plans to kill more for a good reason.

“What did you feel in that moment killing them. Did that feel good to you?” asked true crime correspondent Briana Whitney.

“Well, I felt justified,” Wassenaar told Whitney in a call from prison.

“Do you wish you killed more?” asked Whitney.

“Of course! Of course. Here’s the thing, Briana, I jumped the gun,” said Wassenaar.

His statements were concerning and alarming, but Wassenaar said there was a reason he did it. The victims, Saul Alvarez, Thorne Harnage, and Donald Lashley, all had something in common.

“They were child molesters. Alvarez had raped…had kidnapped…first, he came to this country illegally. Then he kidnapped and raped and murdered a 15-year-old little girl. I did society a favor by killing that f****t,” said Wassenaar. “The other two, Harnage and Lashley, were both sexual child predators that molested several victims. So, I did society a favor.”

Alvarez was in prison for first-degree murder. Harnage and Lashley were in prison for child sex crimes.

Wassenaar said his killing spree was possible based on where they were allowed and locked in.

“The way the prison is situated when they let out for breakfast or meal times, they lock us in what they call a chute. It’s a cage outside the chow hall. Once we’re locked in, there’s nowhere to run to, we’re all in there,” he explained.

“Once I seen one of my main targets, I jumped the gun and started. If I would have waited until that chute was locked — that cage was locked, and we were all in there locked in — I would have killed at least seven. My goal was at least seven, but I was hoping for a baker’s dozen. I had several targets, all child molesters,” Wassenaar described.

Could this have been prevented? Wassenaar himself said he warned prison officials. In November 2024, Wassenaar said he was assigned a cellmate, Joseph Desisto, who was also in prison for child molestation and abuse.

He was assigned a cellmate after his custody level changed earlier last year from maximum custody to close custody for compliant behavior, meaning a lowered level of risk to the public and staff.

Wassenaar said he told prison staff he couldn’t have a cellmate.

“I can’t have a celly, I’m not prepared for that. I’ve been in my own cell for 21 years,” Wassenaar told us.

Desisto was found dead in the cell. Wassenaar claims he killed him as a practice for more and describes in detail how he did it.

“CIU (Criminal Investigations Unit) called me in there and I told them the details just what I told you. I told them I put suntan lotion on his neck, that I dropped sweat onto his face as I was killing him, the final strangulation. And nothing happened. They gave me my property. They put me back in a cell,” Wassenaar said.

Desisto was 81 years old. The Pima County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was due to natural causes and underlying conditions, not a killing.

“When I got back to the yard, the inmates couldn’t believe it because they all know that I killed that dude. All of the inmates knew. And they send me back on the yard, they said, ‘What the hell?’ and I said, ‘Man, there’s higher powers, higher powers at work here.’ It’s going to recur. It’s going to recur when they put someone else in my cell. So, I warned them at least a month,” Wassenaar said.

Wassenaar told me he believed there was a chance he would be resentenced for his role in the Lewis prison standoff and have potential freedom.

“First of all, kinda catchy,” Rogan said after bringing the song up.

“Well, that’s the problem with it!” Segura said as both comedians laughed. “The guy, from production, he’s never lost a step.”

Ye’s song has been pulled by numerous platforms, but remains up on X, where it has racked up millions of views.

Rogan called the music video the “craziest thing” he’s ever seen, while Segura questioned what the point of the rapper’s extreme trolling and anti-Semitic rhetoric is.

“There is a thing where that song is like, what are you doing, dude? Like, what are doing, for real?” he asked.

“It’s the ultimate pushing back,” Rogan said.

Segura argued he’s fairly unbothered, as a comedian, by offensive statements, but predicted all Ye’s song will do is to get more uneducated people to say things like “Heil Hitler.”

“I do think like making a catchy song about that. I’m like, what are you doing, man? Like, you’re just getting at a minimum, you’re just going to get more people that think it’s cool to say, ‘Heil Hitler.’ Like, that’s at the minimum,” he said.

“Well, I think that’s part of the program,” Rogan said. “I think that’s what he’s trying to do.”

“But, I mean, is that cool to do? I guess if you’re like, well, it’s fun to troll the masses… what I’m saying is that like, at a minimum, you’re going to get less educated people to go like, this is a fun thing to say. And you’re, like, I mean, is that good? You really want people just walk around, be like, ‘you know what’s tight, man? Heil Hitler.’ It’s fucking insane!” Segura said.

Rogan made clear he does not support antisemitism or racism before arguing that banning Ye’s song may give it more influence and play into the rapper’s hand.

Rogan argued:


There’s a benefit to just letting people talk. Like let people say whatever the fuck they wanna say even if it sucks. This is the benefit of Twitter but this is also the bad part. It’s like the fucking song has so many millions of hits on Twitter. It’s been banned from every platform. But is it good to ban things from platforms, or is it better to let it be out there and let people talk about it? Because if you ban it, then people want to hear it more, and then it becomes more popular. And then it kind of supports what he says, which is that there’s this concerted effort if you talk about Jewish people, that they’re going to remove you from everything, remove you from banking, which is what he’s saying, they run everything.

The podcaster and comedian also expressed concern over the song itself, saying when he first saw the music video, his first question was “how does this end?” Ye was previously a guest on Rogan’s podcast while he was running as an independent candidate in the 2020 presidential election.

“I’m watching on my phone like, yooooo,” Rogan said. “And then my first thought was how does this end?


Because this ends. This is going end. there’s going to come a time where they’re going to realize this is a problem, so how does it end? Does it end in assassination? Does it? Does it end in financial ruin?”

I saw this movie on TV in CT in 1963 or 64. I can't recall any of the animal slaughters as they may have been editied for TV. I found those the hardest to watch. The only images that stuck in my memory were the scenes of the foie gras geese and the Capuchin cemetery. in Rome. It was the recent statement of Charles III banning Fois Gras for state dinners that reminded me of it.

This movie was very influential.

I suppose one has to agree that nothing it shows is very flattering about human nature but to damn their memory as perverse is to ignore that many of the actions depicted were also survival strategies.

It has a very Roman Catholic perspective that I was raised in, I don't think the scenes that touch on Eastern religions are very well understood. Their is more than a bit of religious chauvinism and misrepresentation to them.

What really amazes me is that world was only about 60 years ago. There probably isn't a single primitive tribe depicted that still lives as their grandparents, even great grandparents lived. They were all human beings and developed faster than even those in the developed world. That is the most staggering thing about them.

It makes me feel very stupid actually. I can't look at them with much of a sense of self-congratulatory chauvinism. I didn't make myself and didn't have to travel nearly as fast or cover such a great distance.

“We detained four juveniles for causing a riot and panic within the Bayside mall,” said Miami PD spokesman Alvarez. “There were no aliens that we know of. Our priority was neutralizing a dangerous situation.”

Bayside Marketplace officials declined to speculate about the alleged alien but have launched an internal investigation. The mall has faced prior issues with rowdy teenagers and will be reevaluating security protocols.

⁣⁣Goldman Lawyer, Epstein Conferred on Secret Service Sex Scandal

Kathryn Ruemmler, who resigned last week as the top lawyer at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein about a prostitution scandal that engulfed the US Secret Service during her tenure as White House counsel under former President Barack Obama.

In a dozen or so exchanges that were sent months after Ruemmler left her White House position in 2014, she complained to Epstein about “this secret service crap” and forwarded to him a draft email that contained detailed, nonpublic information about the behind-the-scenes role the White House Counsel’s office played in investigating the 2012 prostitution scandal.

Although Ruemmler had left the White House, she remained embroiled in the matter as lawmakers and journalists probed her work investigating the scandal. At the time she was under consideration for US attorney general.

Epstein offered advice, as well as what he described as “edits” to the email draft, which Ruemmler indicated she was planning to send to a journalist. “Breathe, smile. You’re free,” he wrote in one message.

These messages were among hundreds between Ruemmler and Epstein, a set of exchanges that reveals they had a relationship close enough that she accepted gifts from him and referred to him as “Uncle Jeffrey.” After this latest batch of emails was released and publicized, Ruemmler resigned last week as the chief legal officer and general counsel of Goldman Sachs. She said June 30 would be her last day.

It’s unclear whether Ruemmler accepted any advice on the Secret Service scandal from Epstein, who was already a convicted sex offender at the time. Jennifer Connelly, a spokeswoman for Ruemmler, said the former White House counsel “has done nothing wrong and has nothing to hide. Nothing in the record suggests otherwise.”

“Ms. Ruemmler has deep sympathy for those harmed by Epstein and if she knew then what she knows now, she never would have dealt with him at all,” Connelly said.

The Secret Service declined to comment.

The underlying incident dates to April 2012, when a dozen Secret Service agents and other US government staffers traveled to Cartagena, Colombia, to provide security for Obama’s visit to the Summit of the Americas, a diplomatic forum for leaders from the US and 34 countries across the hemisphere.

Prior to Obama’s visit, the Secret Service agents and other government employees hired prostitutes and brought them back to their rooms at the Hotel Caribe. An argument ensued over payment to one of the women, which caused the matter to spill into public view, sparking an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General.

Eight Secret Service employees were relieved of duty, and others were disciplined. The inspector general’s report, which was published in January 2013, made no mention of the White House or any of its staff members.

But two years later, the Washington Post published a story that said Ruemmler and other top officials had been briefed twice by the Secret Service about allegations that White House personnel had been involved. The White House had previously denied that anyone from its staff was involved.

Among the information the White House was given, according to the Oct. 8, 2014 report, were details that suggested a prostitute had been an overnight guest in the room of a volunteer member of the White House advance team. The volunteer denied it. Ruemmler “and other presidential aides conducted an interview” with the volunteer and “concluded that he had done nothing wrong,” according to the story.

The Washington Post article also reported that a DHS official who investigated the prostitution scandal had told Senate staffers that Obama’s White House exerted pressure on the agency to withhold conclusions of the investigation until after the 2012 presidential election.

The following day Epstein and Ruemmler exchanged emails that were both friendly and businesslike. “How you doin,” Epstein asked in one.

She responded: “Looking now.”

In another thread, Ruemmler forwarded Epstein an email that she had received on Oct. 16 from then-White House deputy press secretary, Eric Schultz. The message contained a letter to the Washington Post reporter from an attorney representing the White House volunteer who’d been swept up in the prostitution scandal.

In a response, Epstein seized on part of the letter to ask whether a prostitute—instead of a hotel clerk—had written down the room number she was visiting. “that’s a totally different spin=on the story, if t wasn’t the hotel clerk who wrote it, =e how often do prostitutes lie as to which room they are head=d??” he asked.

“We don’t know -- could have been the prostitute, could h=ve been the hotel clerk,” Ruemmler replied.

Deputies respond after elderly woman killed in Amazon truck hit and run

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said a woman died when an Amazon delivery truck driver hit her as she crossed Cumming Highway on Tuesday evening.

“A terrible situation,” said Capt. Jay Baker.

Sandra Fitts, 79, died at the scene. Fitts had just visited a loved one’s gravesite nearby before she was crossing the street.

Deputies told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington that the Amazon driver, identified as 24-year-old London Best, kept going after he hit Fitts.

“It appears that he knows what happened and he actually continued to deliver packages in the area,” Baker explained.

Deputies said evidence at the scene indicated that the truck involved in the accident was an Amazon delivery truck.

A Canton police officer reportedly spotted the truck nearby on Bishop Drive with damage consistent with a hit and run.

Best is charged with vehicular homicide and hit and run resulting in Fitts’ death.

An Amazon spokesperson shared the following statement with Channel 2 Action News:

“We’re deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We’ll support local police as they investigate.”

“Had he not left the scene it’s very likely that he wouldn’t been charged, certainly with these felonies. I mean it was dark and she was crossing the highway. So, if you’re ever in an accident, stop, call 911, render aid, it makes all the difference in the world,” Baker said.

Washington spoke with the Fitts family on Wednesday. They told her the tragedy continues to impact the entire family.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing to investigate.

HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) - Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones is catching heat for his use of the “warden burger,” which he serves to inmates in isolation.
Jones says it’s not made to taste bad and it’s a common practice across the country.
He says the punishment isn’t in the taste but in having the same thing for every meal for the duration of an inmate’s stay in isolation, which can last up to 10 days.
Jones took bites of the burger during an interview Wednesday night with FOX19.
“I would eat this,” he said. “Hell, I’m eating it now.”
The burger is made of tomato paste, flour, dry milk, oats, beans, ground turkey, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, onion, celery, and “a pinch of salt,” according to the recipe.
Jones says he’s been serving it to inmates in isolation for years and has never been ordered to stop.
“This is jail,” he said. “You don’t get to choose your mommy and your daddy, and your aunt Lily doesn’t get to make your meals. I’m your aunt and your grandpa. I’m the one that gets your meals prepared, makes sure it gets done.”
Jones says inmates get put in isolation for things like fighting, and the burger is added punishment.
“If you get in trouble and you go to an isolation cell, it’s no different than your regular cell,” he said. “And that’s what you get three times a day, and you get all the water you can drink. It’s very nutritious. It’s good for you. It has lots of fiber, and fiber is good for you, right?”
Jones says a dietician approved the recipe.
Asked whether he would eat the burger three times a day, Jones replied, “Yeah. I’m easy to please like that. I come from a generation that you eat whatever’s in front of you.”
Jones says he’s had inmates think twice about acting out because they say they don’t want to eat the burger again.
“And this may be just a little piece that keeps you out of trouble, keeps you from hurting other people,” he said. “That’s my goal here.”
