Border Patrol agents on Wednesday opened a gate that had previously been locked by members of the Texas National Guard, in order to allow a number of illegal immigrants deeper into the United States.

Fox News witnessed members of the guard close and lock the gate, which is situated on private property and had previously been open, to deny entry to migrants who had crossed illegally and were expecting to be allowed into the U.S.

The illegal immigrants were then seen standing outside the gate waiting to be allowed in, with the Texas National Guard watching on.

A short time later, Border Patrol agents appeared with a key and opened the door, allowing the migrants to get through and be processed into the U.S. immigration system.

The incident demonstrates the stark contrast in approach between Texas authorities and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Under Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas has surged law enforcement to the border under Operation Lone Star. That included a focus on stopping migrants from entering the U.S. with Texas now returning recently-entered illegal immigrants to the border, and its own border wall construction under way.

Border Patrol agents, meanwhile, have been increasingly made to focus on processing migrants into the interior, with migrants frequently not seeking to escape Border Patrol -- instead seeking them out so they can be processed and quickly released into the U.S.

Some agents have expressed their anger at being taken off the line and instead being forced to process those who have entered the country illegally into the U.S.

"I know the policies of this administration are not particularly popular with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but that's the reality, and let's see what we can do within that framework," Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told frustrated agents in January.

Republicans have taken aim at the Biden administration for restoring "catch-and-release" policies, including in ending the Trump-era "Remain in Mexico" policy, which kept migrants in Mexico rather than releasing them into the U.S.

The Biden administration has focused instead on tackling "root causes" of migration like violence, poverty and climate change. It has also pledged to restore legal asylum pathways that it says were abolished during the Trump administration.

Some of the migrants who have successfully entered the U.S. into Texas have been given the chance by Abbott to travel to Washington D.C. and New York City -- the mayors of those cities have protested about the numbers being sent their way and have appealed for federal help while criticizing Abbott. Approximately 10,000 migrants are estimated so far to have been sent to both cities.

Two weeks ago, Australian performance artist Ruby Rose released a short film titled Break Free. The piece, set to a song (“It Pulls Me Under”) performed by Butterfly Boucher, depicts Rose’s transition from an ultra-feminine identity into a hyper-masculine one. The response has been loud, though not always proud. Some of the viewers want it to represent everything for everyone. But, like any created work, it intends to simply capture and convey the artist’s very singular experience. The hope, presumably, is that others will relate to and appreciate it, but that’s where the creator’s responsibility stops and the viewer’s discernment starts.
Both the support and backlash are examples of how starved the LGBT community — particularly the trans population — is for positive representations of itself in the media. Along with others, Rose and Boucher have teamed up and done their part. But, like Rose says, “We need more people doing and fewer people complaining.”
Ruby, where did the seed idea for the piece come from?
RR: This is definitely an autobiographical piece. The concept itself was sort of something that was very much like a seed in that it kept growing and growing until one day I quite simply said, “That’s it. I’m shooting my film this weekend. Enough is enough.” Because I was battling with it myself. I had wanted to shoot the film for so long as a therapeutic piece in answer to all the comments and discrimination I have received over my life time whenever I have strayed too far away from the status quo of feminine gender roles.
I’ve had this reincarnation so many times in my life and I wanted to capture it in a short video for others who relate, because we can try and try and be something that we don’t feel inside, but in the end only when you listen to your soul and that heart that beats inside of us, can we find happiness and acceptance?
Butterfly, what was your initial instinct/impression/impulse when you first saw the piece?
BB: Well, the first time I watched it, I was coming from a very technical point of view… How long is it? What kind of mood?
The first thing I noticed was that it was really well done, and that Ruby had obviously put a lot of work into it. When she reached out to me, she only had two days to find some music for it. I really felt this piece of film deserved the right music, so I spent the next three hours going through my catalog of previous albums to see if anything fit, but songs were either lyrically not relevant or, musically, they made the visuals feel more like a music video rather than a short film. I really didn’t want to lose the classiness of the short film.
It wasn’t until about the third or forth time I watched it that it started to hit me emotionally. It started to hit me how ballsy and brave Ruby was for making this film! The scene that moved me was the part where she is yelling at the camera saying, “What the F&@k are you looking at” repeatedly, like she is rehearsing for the real world. At first, I was kind of offended by it, but then it occurred to me that that is kind of how tough somebody would have to be to stand up to the haters out there.
How did you come to choose and contact Butterfly [Boucher] for the song?
RR: I have known Butterfly for years through Missy Higgins and she is beyond talented. Just a real inspiration with an enormous heart. I love her music and I asked if I would be able to use a song. She said yes and was so behind the film she didn’t even have time to mix it or master it, and that’s why I love her. That’s why her fans love her. She can release a song not mastered or mixed and it sounds perfect. And she gave it to me, which allowed me to give it to others. She’s had such a huge reaction she released it for free for the weekend and is getting it mixed and mastered for release.
Tell me a little about the song — its inspiration and purpose prior to this.
BB: This song was actually originally written for a Grey’s Anatomy episode, My co-writer on this song, Katie Herzig, and I were told they were looking for sad/everything-is-falling-apart/but-still-some-hope songs. So this is what we came up with. It wasn’t used and until this Ruby video came up. I had forgotten about it; it had just been sitting in my “Songs to Finish” folder.

With Northern California’s traditional rainy season having gone dry, some water and power agencies are taking to the skies in hope of boosting rain and snowfall through a practice known as cloud seeding.
Cloud seeding, mostly done with planes, sows rain clouds with a chemical vapor, including silver iodide particles that can bond with moisture, freeze into ice crystals and fall as rain or snow, artificially increasing the amount of precipitation from the clouds.
While the process of chemically altering the weather sounds like something from a sci-fi story, the practice stretches back to the 1940s and has been successful enough that the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, a power provider, has used it since 1969 to increase the rainfall and snowfall that helps fuel its hydroelectric power plants.
“We see an average of 3 to 10% increase in snowpack” as a result of cloud seeding, said Lindsay VanLaningham, a spokesperson for SMUD.
An area that might normally see snowfall equal to 50 inches of rainfall could produce up to 55 inches, in other words.
SMUD sent up a cloud-seeding plane Tuesday as a storm front moved over the Sacramento area and toward the Sierra. Its target was the upper American River area, where the utility’s reservoirs and power plants are located.
Cloud-seeding aircraft release the silver iodide particles through a series of long, narrow tubes or flares mounted on the wings. They serve as nuclei around which water vapor in the clouds bond and freezes. If they grow heavy enough, they fall to the ground as precipitation.
How often — and when — SMUD seeds depends on a number of factors including whether there are storm clouds, as well as on the physics of those clouds and the frequency of arriving storms.
“For example the wind speed, direction, air temperature, moisture content, icing structure, available storage in our reservoirs as well as numerous other factors must all align perfectly,” VanLaningham said.
SMUD is one of seven agencies in California that currently sow silver iodide into clouds, according to the state Department of Water Resources. The department doesn’t conduct or fund cloud seeding projects, said Jason Ince, a spokesperson for the agency but does track who’s engaging in the practice and where.
No Bay Area water agencies use cloud seeding, and in addition to SMUD, the only Northern California utility that uses it is the Northern California Power Agency, a consortium of municipal utilities that includes Alameda, Santa Clara, Palo Alto and Healdsburg as well as BART and the Port of Oakland and seeds over the watershed of the Upper San Joaquin, Upper Tuolumne and Kings rivers.
The Desert Research Institute uses cloud seeding in the Tahoe/Truckee, Carson and Walker River basins in the eastern Sierra, Ince said, but most of those areas are in Nevada.
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. used cloud seeding to employ cloud seeding in the watershed of Lake Almanor and north fork of Stanislaus River but has not notified state water officials of its intent to seed clouds this water year.
The East Bay Municipal Utility District doesn’t have its own cloud-seeding program, said spokesperson Andrea Pook, but contributes a small amount of money to PG&E programs since the utility has reservoirs upstream from EBMUD’s.
“The idea of (cloud seeding) is certainly valid,” she said. “It works in a lab. The question is how much does it really help?”

When Netanyahu demanded that the protests against Israel be stopped, the US government complied because our members of Congress have all been bought and paid for with tax dollars given to the American Israeli Political Action Committee, known as AIPAC. ⁣Two people have been killed and eight others including a police officer have been injured following a shooting outside of a grocery store in Arkansas.

Law enforcement agencies responded to the Mad Butcher store in Fordyce on Friday morning to reports of a shooting.

State Police said that nine civilians were shot at with two dying from their injuries, while a law enforcement agent was also hit and has non-life threatening injuries.

According to officials the shooter was also critically injured after being shot at by law enforcement and has since been taken into custody.

Sources told the Southeast Arkansas Times that the shootout started between two groups of people with AR-15 style weapons.

A Dallas County Courthouse employee told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that at least four active shooters had been involved.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the actual number of shooters involved in the incident.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Knoedel confirmed to THV11 that the suspect was quickly detained.

Video emerged on social media of the scene with multiple shots heard being let off in quick succession.

Car alarms can be heard ringing out with the person recording adding that one person was laying in a parking lot after being shot at.

The camera then pans round to show one person laying on the asphalt surface as shots continue to ring out.

David Rodriguez, 58, had stopped at his local gas station in Fordyce to fill up his car when he heard what he thought were fireworks from a nearby vendor´s stand.

'We heard a few little pops,' he said.

He then saw people running from the Mad Butcher grocery store into the parking lot, and one person lying on the ground. He began recording video with his phone before the gunfire escalated.

'The police started to show up, and then there was massive gunfire and ambulances pulling up,' he said. 'The bullets were just flying.'

Governor of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sand posted on X saying: 'I have been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I'm in constant contact with State Police at the scene.

'I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives.

'My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident.'

Reporters on the scene reported shell casings scattered across the ground and a medical helicopter being brought in.

Several agencies including the Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the Arkansas State Police Department are all currently on the scene.

Fordyce is a city of about 3,200 people located 65 miles (104 kilometers) south of Little Rock.
