“There is no such thing as an ‘1849 Abortion Ban’ in Wisconsin,” Dane County Judge Diane Schlipper said in a ruling that provided a massive but preliminary win for Wisconsin Democrats and abortion rights advocates. Instead, the law applies only to feticide, the act of killing a fetus, usually by “assaulting and battering the mother,” according to the ruling.

“A physician who performs a consensual medical abortion commits a crime only ‘after the fetus or unborn child reaches viability,’” continued Schlipper, who previously questioned whether the 174-year-old law applies to the procedure.

Schlipper’s ruling shooting down the purported ban came in an order rejecting a defendant’s motion to dismiss Democrats’ case seeking to clarify whether the 1849 feticide law, 940.04, applies to abortions.

It doesn’t appear that abortion access will be immediately restored, but Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin said they were evaluating their options “in providing abortion care as soon as we can.”

Diane Welsh, who represents the physicians who joined as plaintiffs in the case, said her clients will “now move promptly to obtain a declaratory judgment to ensure that physicians can provide health care that Wisconsin patients need.”

“I hope this ruling makes clear that no Wisconsin prosecutor should be contemplating any prosecution for abortion under 940.04,” she continued.

Heather Weininger, executive director of the anti-abortion group Wisconsin Right to Life, called the ruling “a devastating setback in our ongoing fight to protect Wisconsin’s preborn children.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul and other New York officials vowed Thursday to continue efforts to boost minority students’ access to the state’s colleges and universities despite the Supreme Court’s decision to ban race-based admissions.

In 6-3 affirmative action opinion, the nation’s highest court decided that using race as factor in college admissions violates Constitution’s 14th Amendment

“This is a dark day for equality and democracy,” Hochul said shortly after the decision by the nation’s top jurists was released.

But she said had already spoken to State University of New York Chancellor John King about the goal to admit more historically underrepresented students at its 64 campuses.

“Diversity is an important part of who we are,” Hochul said. “We want to make sure that New York is a place that celebrates diversity and inclusion.”

King and SUNY’s board of trustees, in a joint statement, blasted the SCOTUS ruling for pulling “our nation backward in the journey toward equity and civil rights” but said it will push to bolster minority admissions “within the law.”

“Race-conscious admissions policies have enriched our institutions and our nation. Yet despite the existence of race-conscious admissions policies, Black and Latino students, along with other groups, are still underrepresented across institutions of higher education as students, faculty members and administrators,” the SUNY brass said.

While the rulings in the related cases, Students for Fair Admissions vs Harvard University and vs University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, said colleges can’t explicitly use race and ethnicity as a preference in admissions, “we can use life experience as a factor,” SUNY Board Chairwoman Merryl Tisch told The Post.

A student’s race would certainly be part of life experience along with other considerations as Chief Justice Roberts mentioned in his majority ruling.

SUNY has come under fire from conservatives for pushing race-based “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice” programs, who’ve branded it “Woke U.” Discrimination complaints have been filed against SUNY’s Albany campus and Buffalo Law School for promoting racial preference programs for non-white students.

SUNY’s 64-campus study body combined is 53% white and 47% non-white combined including Black, Hispanic and Asian.

The leadership at the City University of New York said the ruling won’t impact its 25 campuses because 54% of its student body is already African-American Hispanic combined, 22% Asians and 24% white.

“CUNY as a system doesn’t depend on race-conscious admissions but as it is with any court ruling that affects higher education, we are carefully reviewing today’s decision and its impact, if any, on our admission practices,” a spokesperson said.

Some New York Asian-American education advocacy groups applauded the ruling, saying race-based preferences hurt high-performing, college-bound Asian-American students.

“We are thankful that the Supreme Court has finally ruled against decades of pernicious discrimination against Asian American students. Colleges have abused Affirmative Action for too long,” said a joint statement released by the Asian Wave Alliance, Chinese-American Citizen Alliance of Greater NY, NYC Residents Alliance and Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education (PLACE NYC).

“Discrimination by group identity is unconstitutional, un-American, and immoral. We call upon universities to comply with the law and stop in good faith to discriminate by race.”

Cattauragus County Supreme Court Judge Ronald Ploetz threw out the regulation in January declaring the scheme "absurd" and blatantly unconstitutional. After an earlier visit to the occupied West Bank, Blinken landed in Baghdad on Sunday evening for his first visit to the country as the U.S. top diplomat and held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani.

He will travel to Turkey later on Sunday, where protests were already underway.

Iran-backed group Kataib Hezbollah issued a warning on Saturday night that the expected Blinken visit would be met with "an unprecedented escalation."

U.S. defense officials say rocket and drone attacks on U.S. and coalition troops have stepped up in Iraq and Syria since Hamas' deadly attacks on Oct. 7 sparked an intensive Israeli military campaign in Gaza.

Iraqi armed groups aligned with Iran have threatened to target U.S. interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervened to support Israel against Hamas in Gaza.

"It was very important to send a very clear message to anyone who might seek to take advantage of the conflict in Gaza to threaten our personnel here or anywhere else in the region: Don’t do it," Blinken told reporters after meeting al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani has pledged to pursue the perpetrators of rocket attacks on three military bases in Iraq hosting international coalition advisers, including Ain al-Asad in western Iraq, a military base near Baghdad's international airport and Harir in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

Lebanon-based Hezbollah, which like Hamas is backed by U.S. adversary Iran, has launched strikes on northern Israel.

Hezbollah's leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah issued a warning on Friday, as Blinken arrived in the region, that preventing a regional conflict depended on stopping the Israeli attack on Gaza, and said there was a possibility of fighting on the Lebanese front turning into a full-fledged war.

In 1969, an authentically seeking and heterodox U.S. Army officer — and specialist in psychological operations or PSYOP — entered the orbit of Church of Satan (CoS) founder Anton LaVey. This was Michael Aquino, whose efforts opened a new chapter in Satanic and Left-Hand spirituality.

Aquino first briefly encountered LaVey in 1968 at the San Francisco premiere of Rosemary’s Baby, the social connector for so much in the modern Satanism LaVey defined. A recent graduate of UC Santa Barbara and commissioned officer, Aquino spent part of 1968 to 1969 at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Division and later as a PSYOP/Special Forces officer at the base’s JFK Special Warfare Center. [1] In early 1969, the second lieutenant found himself questioning life’s purpose. A study of existential philosophy had only deepened his despair and he was contemplating suicide. [2]

While on leave in March in San Francisco — where he was soon to be married — Aquino spotted an ad in the underground newspaper Berkeley Barb for a Satanic circle at Anton’s Black House. Although the evening featured its share of garish theatrics, including a robed henchman stationed at the door (in actuality a lecturer in history at the University of San Francisco) and Anton’s emergence from an Egyptian sarcophagus, the gathering itself featured ideas that spoke to the soldier-seeker. And then there was the figure of Anton himself: relaxed, self-assured, good humored, powerful but not arrogant, smiling not in a cruel fashion but “full of the purest metaphysical good humor,” Aquino wrote. It was sealed: “I reached out and took the apple.” [3]

“At that point,” Aquino later wrote a friend — the same doorman at the Black House, “Anton LaVey said, ‘Where there is no meaning, we ourselves can create it. We caught up with the singer-songwriter Tuesday when he decided to busk on the street for the first time in 25 years ... belting out songs in the cold on the heels of venues canceling his shows.

Remember ... we spoke to Matis last week after his shows in Tucson, Arizona and Santa Fe, New Mexico were canceled because of last-minute safety concerns. Matisyahu was convinced both cancellations were the result of his views on the war in Gaza.

Clearly, Matis is tired of relying on venues and decided to take his music to the street ... saying he just wants to share his message of "love" with audiences.

Despite saying love's his purpose, Matisyahu admits he's also upset with the situation in the Middle East -- and his feelings of love quickly manifested into a diatribe on double standards.

Matis focused on the hostages in Gaza and slammed people who don't seem super concerned about them. He's got a theory on why this is ... chalking up the apathy to antisemitism.

Matisyahu fired off a list of other moments in history where Jewish people faced hardship and overcame ... before firing off the rallying cry, "We will f***ing win."

He followed all this up with a performance of "No Woman, No Cry" -- the hit song popularized by Bob Marley -- belting out the song with electric guitar accompaniment.

Seems like Matis is turning the world into his concert hall ... so, maybe do a double-take next time you're walking by a street performer.

Members of the Walton family sold roughly $1.5 billion worth of Walmart Inc. stock at the end of last week as shares hovered near a record high.
The Walton Family Holdings Trust sold about 8.82 million shares between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23, according to US Securities and Exchange Commission filings from late Friday. The notifications were filed on behalf of Alice, Jim and Rob Walton.

Jeff Bezos also recently sold 50 million Amazon.com Inc. shares in multiple transactions as part of a plan he disclosed earlier this month.
A media representative for Walmart pointed to a 2015 statement from Walton Enterprises that said the Walton family expects to sell shares from time to time in order to help offset possible increases in its ownership percentage due to the company’s stock buyback programs, and to help fund charitable contributions.
The Walton family owns about 45% of Walmart’s outstanding shares through the trust and their main investment vehicle, Walton Enterprises, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Alice, Jim and Rob Walton have a combined fortune of $274 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
