Kentucky District Judge Kevin Mullins was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon while in his chambers at the Letcher County Courthouse.

In a post on the Mountain Eagle's Facebook page, the newspaper said that officials arrested Sheriff Mickey Stines after he surrendered himself to police in connection to the shooting.

Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed Mullins' death on Twitter, writing, "Sadly, I have been informed that a district judge in Letcher County was shot and killed in his chambers this afternoon. There is far too much violence in this world, and I pray there is a path to a better tomorrow."

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman said on social media following the shooting that the Office of the Attorney General will "collaborate" with the 27th Judicial Circuit Jackie Steele.

"We will fully investigate and pursue justice," Coleman said.

Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball released a statement on social media saying that she was "praying for Letcher County" and Judge Mullins.

"May God protect this community and all those involved in the shooting," Ball said.

A press release from the Kentucky Court of Justice said that the office was aware of the "tragic incident" that took place in Letcher County. The statement said the branch was in contact with law enforcement agencies and offering "full support."

Police responded to the Letcher County Courthouse after reports of deadly shooting on Thursday.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown, and Letcher County Central High School reported students were released citing Kentucky State Police guidance.

The state's judicial branch issued a statement writing, "The Kentucky Court of Justice is aware of a tragic incident that occurred today in Letcher County. We are currently in contact with law enforcement agencies, including Kentucky State Police, and are offering our full support during this difficult time. While the investigation is ongoing, we are committed to providing assistance in any way we can."

after my coworkers now know my business. The nurses were cold and there
was no compassion or regard for comfort during testing or even the
courtesy of introducing myself before you were staring at my vagina.

Don’t come here unless you like a physician who would rather do surgery than less invasive options better for the patient.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?

From the moment that I walked into that office I felt like I was nothing
but a number preceded by a dollar sign followed by at least five zeros.
The initial consult he seemed very friendly and warm but then every
single visit afterwards we had more questions and answers in more
anxiety than reassurance. We always felt like we were being dismissed
with any of our concerns. Later on I find out that his surgery scheduler
scheduled me for surgery that I had never been consented for and then
violated my privacy by not doing me as I had requested considering it’s a
facility that I work at and I wanted my privacy to be maintained. I
come to find out that he wanted to remove both of my fallopian tube’s
and my ovaries based on what the surgery was supposed to be.

I had a vaginal ultrasound and the most painful attempt for a saline infused sonogram

Cold and uncaring.

Poor communication, shady staff, poorly organized. I can remember sitting for hours waiting for my appointment...

In the year 1346 a Mongol Golden Horde army attacked and besieged the Venetian colony city of Feodosia in modern-day Crimea. While besieging the city many of the Mongol soldiers fell ill and died from an unknown illness. The Mongols then decided to then catapult the corpses into the city hoping that the unknown illness would spread to the Venetians. At some point through merchant ships the illness reached Central Europe. The jewish communities in Europe noticed this illness and did everything possible to spread it wide and far(i.e. well poisoning). As time passed Europeans began to notice that the jewish quarters were completely unaffected by what became to be known as the "Black Death" In 1348 as tensions between Europeans and jews increased a pogrom was carried out in the city of Toulon, France and many more followed in other European cities. On February 14th 1349 after a local official in the city of Strasbourg had been deposed for protecting the jews an angry mob stormed the jewish quarter and over 1k jews were dragged in to the street and burned to death, resulting in the entire jewish population of Strasbourg being wiped out. While the pogroms did not stop the Bubonic Plague, many Europeans were freed from their debts due to the deaths of thousands of jewish merchants.

Handberg announces the arrest and filing of a criminal complaint charging Josue Garriga III (34, Jacksonville) with online enticement of a minor child to engage in criminal sexual activity. Garriga is a former police officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to the criminal complaint, Garriga met the child victim at church around September 2023 and began pursuing a relationship with her via text messaging and WhatsApp. Messages recovered from the victim’s phone revealed Garriga sent communications expressing his sexual interest in the child. Garriga went to the victim’s house late at night on several occasions and visited her at a coffee shop on March 6, 2024. During the March 6 encounter, while in his vehicle outside the coffee shop, Garriga grabbed the child’s hand, put her hand down his pants, and requested the child perform oral sex on him. When the child refused, Garriga asked the child to kiss his genitalia and would not let the child leave until the child did so.
A complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty. If convicted, Garriga faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.
