During the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting on May 6th in Omaha, Nebraska (home of Franklin child abuse/Boys Town infamy), Peter Flaherty had his microphone cut, was arrested, and forcibly removed.

Flaherty is the Chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), which was the sponsor of Proposal #8 to “require hereafter that two separate people hold the office of the Chairman and the office of the CEO.”

In support of this resolution for an independent chair, Flaherty attempted to assert that Berkshire “would be less identified with Mr. Buffett’s personal political activities,” and cited Berkshire Chairman/CEO Warren Buffett’s support for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among other factors.
Resolution proponents were allowed three minutes each to speak in support of their proposals. Three other proponents spoke before Flaherty without interruption, including Michael Frerichs, Treasurer of Illinois.
Video of the event shows that at 1:08 into his remarks, Flaherty was approached and interrupted at the microphone. It was by Cathy Woollums, a Berkshire official who was a designated liaison with proponents for the meeting. Not audible through the sound system, Woollums told Flaherty that he should stay “on topic.”
Flaherty stated into the microphone, “You are not going to censor what I say, ma’am. I’m very sorry. And I appeal to the Chair (occupied by Buffett) that I be allowed to continue. Sir?”
Buffett stated, “You may continue but under the three-minute limitation.” Flaherty replied, “Of course,” and resumed speaking at the 1:28 mark until the 2:04 mark when his mike went dead.
At the 1:55 mark Buffett attempted to start talking over Flaherty and appeared to give direction to other persons in the hall. This portion of Flaherty’s remarks concerned Bill Gates’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
Immediately, two representatives of Clark International Security approached and stood in front of Flaherty. He was told to leave or he would be arrested. Flaherty replied that he would leave when he finished his statement. At this point, Flaherty was not fully aware that his mic had been cut, was still under the three-minute limitation, and had already received a favorable ruling from the chair.
One of the Clark representatives summoned a uniformed Omaha policeman who was nearby and requested that he arrest Flaherty. He grabbed Flaherty by the arm, advised him that he was under arrest, and led him from the arena. Flaherty was transported by Omaha police to the Douglas County Corrections Center where he was searched, handcuffed, and charged with criminal trespass.

NLPC filed a similar proposal for an independent chair last year at Berkshire when Flaherty spoke in support of the resolution without incident. The proposal received support from diverse shareholders including the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).
NLPC sponsors the Corporate Integrity Project and has engaged in shareholder activism since 2004. In 2023, NLPC is the proponent of proposals at 26 companies on a variety of topics.
NLPC-filed proposals for an independent chair were also considered, or will be considered, this year at Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs, Home Depot, Mondelez, PepsiCo, Salesforce, and Visa.
Since 2004, Flaherty has spoken at the annual meetings of dozens of companies including Alphabet, Amazon, Bank of America, Boeing, Citigroup, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, Goldman Sachs, Merck, Facebook (now Meta), PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble and Walmart. In connection to NLPC proposals, he has met with many corporate executives over the years, including then-PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and then-GE CEO Jeff Immelt.

In 1986, Frank Zappa engaged in a fiery debate about dirty lyrics and censorship based on religious morality in this classic clip from CNN’s “Crossfire.”

Debating with John Lofton, conservative columnist for the Washington Times, Zappa noted that

The biggest threat to America today is not communism. It’s moving America toward a fascist theocracy. Everything that’s happened under the Reagan Administration is steering us right down that pipe.

Asked later in the interview to give “one example of a fascist theocracy” by co-host Tom Braden, Zappa replied:
When you have a government that prefers a certain moral code derived from a certain religion, and that moral code turns into legislation to suit one certain religious point of view, and if that code happens to be very very right wing, almost toward Attila the Hun…

Lofton responded: “Well then you are an anarchist. Every form of civil government is based on some kind of morality Frank,” but Zappa set him straight, curtly remarking: “Morality in terms of behavior, not in terms of theology!”

I really do not buy the robot replacement theory.
It's very difficult to keep technology running.
The more complicated the tech is, the not difficult it is to keep it running.
Something like a robot is going to require a dozen 120+ iq people with different skillsets to stay running.

Schlipper’s ruling shooting down the purported ban came in an order rejecting a defendant’s motion to dismiss Democrats’ case seeking to clarify whether the 1849 feticide law, 940.04, applies to abortions.

It doesn’t appear that abortion access will be immediately restored, but Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin said they were evaluating their options “in providing abortion care as soon as we can.”

Diane Welsh, who represents the physicians who joined as plaintiffs in the case, said her clients will “now move promptly to obtain a declaratory judgment to ensure that physicians can provide health care that Wisconsin patients need.”

“I hope this ruling makes clear that no Wisconsin prosecutor should be contemplating any prosecution for abortion under 940.04,” she continued.

Heather Weininger, executive director of the anti-abortion group Wisconsin Right to Life, called the ruling “a devastating setback in our ongoing fight to protect Wisconsin’s preborn children.”

Iran-backed group Kataib Hezbollah issued a warning on Saturday night that the expected Blinken visit would be met with "an unprecedented escalation."

U.S. defense officials say rocket and drone attacks on U.S. and coalition troops have stepped up in Iraq and Syria since Hamas' deadly attacks on Oct. 7 sparked an intensive Israeli military campaign in Gaza.

Iraqi armed groups aligned with Iran have threatened to target U.S. interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervened to support Israel against Hamas in Gaza.

"It was very important to send a very clear message to anyone who might seek to take advantage of the conflict in Gaza to threaten our personnel here or anywhere else in the region: Don’t do it," Blinken told reporters after meeting al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani has pledged to pursue the perpetrators of rocket attacks on three military bases in Iraq hosting international coalition advisers, including Ain al-Asad in western Iraq, a military base near Baghdad's international airport and Harir in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

Lebanon-based Hezbollah, which like Hamas is backed by U.S. adversary Iran, has launched strikes on northern Israel.

Hezbollah's leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah issued a warning on Friday, as Blinken arrived in the region, that preventing a regional conflict depended on stopping the Israeli attack on Gaza, and said there was a possibility of fighting on the Lebanese front turning into a full-fledged war.

In the year 1346 a Mongol Golden Horde army attacked and besieged the Venetian colony city of Feodosia in modern-day Crimea. While besieging the city many of the Mongol soldiers fell ill and died from an unknown illness. The Mongols then decided to then catapult the corpses into the city hoping that the unknown illness would spread to the Venetians. At some point through merchant ships the illness reached Central Europe. The jewish communities in Europe noticed this illness and did everything possible to spread it wide and far(i.e. well poisoning). As time passed Europeans began to notice that the jewish quarters were completely unaffected by what became to be known as the "Black Death" In 1348 as tensions between Europeans and jews increased a pogrom was carried out in the city of Toulon, France and many more followed in other European cities. On February 14th 1349 after a local official in the city of Strasbourg had been deposed for protecting the jews an angry mob stormed the jewish quarter and over 1k jews were dragged in to the street and burned to death, resulting in the entire jewish population of Strasbourg being wiped out. While the pogroms did not stop the Bubonic Plague, many Europeans were freed from their debts due to the deaths of thousands of jewish merchants.
