Disney has long been considered the kids' brand -- the company of cartoons, family-friendly films and theme park extravaganzas.
But one thing the House of Mouse has yet to offer is comment on a much-less savory issue involving children -- a scandal in its subsidiary news division surrounding a spiked story on the now-deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Project Veritas, whose controversial founder, James O'Keefe, has described himself as a “guerrilla journalist,” published footage Tuesday that included Amy Robach, an anchor for Disney-owned ABC News, claiming on a hot mic that higher-ups at her network killed a story that would have exposed Epstein back in 2015.
Media Research Center vice president Dan Gainor told Fox News, “Walt Disney built the most famously family-friendly company in history,” which made ABC killing the Epstein story that much worse.

“To think that a division of that company wouldn't go out of its way to defend children from a monster is appalling,” Gainor told Fox News. “Even more, journalism is supposed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. ABC protected the comfortable from his victims.”
Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cornell Law professor and media critic Williams Jacobson told Fox News that Disney “needs a full investigation about ABC News' actions in spiking a story about a politically well-connected pedophile.”
Robach called her hot-mic episode a “private moment of frustration,” and ABC News defended the decision to spike the story, saying it wasn’t up to network standards. Robach had spoken with a woman who claimed Epstein paid her for sex when she was underage and pimped her out to a member of the royal family,

“Not only did they quash what would have been a huge story and thus threw basic journalistic ethics out the window, the alleged crimes were as heinous as one could get, aside from murder,” Houck said. “Disney has a mess on their hands.”
Project Veritas, which has framed itself as a conservative whistleblower watchdog group, previously released what it claimed to be hidden camera footage of network news producers, federal politicians and members of private political organizations making statements while unaware they were being recorded.
ABC News downplayed the significance of the Project Veritas video. “At the time, not all of our reporting met our standards to air, but we have never stopped investigating the story. Ever since, we’ve had a team on this investigation and substantial resources dedicated to it," an ABC News spokesperson told Fox News. "That work has led to a two-hour documentary and six-part podcast that will air in the new year.”

Michigan town votes to oust entire govt. over Chinese factory plans

Residents were upset over the board approving a China-linked factory

(NewsNation) — A rural Michigan town voted to oust its entire local government Tuesday after the town board approved a Chinese-affiliated electric battery plant.

Residents of Green Charter Township, Michigan, strongly disapproved of their local township board’s decision to greenlight the construction of a Chinese-connected electric vehicle battery plant in their community.

A locksmith was even brought in Tuesday night to change the locks on the ousted officials’ former offices. The offices are now empty.

The project was expected to create more than 2,300 jobs as part of a $2.34 billion investment.

Despite the backlash from residents, the board moved forward with the Chinese-affiliated project.

“My family members fought communism, and you’re bringing it right here,” a local resident said last year.

When NewsNation visited the town in April, a resident named Corri Riebow who had no experience in politics said, “I don’t know (why they would approve it), other than somebody must be benefitting from it.”

Riebow then ran for clerk and won last night. “We just plan on making it as difficult as we possible for them to continue their process. They don’t even have a sight planned, they don’t have permits yet, so, we’re not their friend,” Riebow said of how the new government is going to handle Gotion, the company behind the plant.

However, it’s the possible communist connection that so many Green Charter Township residents said drove them to the polls and fueled the town’s anger.

The Chinese-affiliated company Gotion previously denied allegiance to the communist party of China. However, its corporate records say, “The company shall set up a party organization and carry out party activities in accordance with the constitution of the communist party of China.”

“Right now, we are not on friendly terms with China. They are threatening us. I consider them the enemy. I don’t want them here, either,” resident Harry King said.

With the overwhelming distrust for the town’s government, a clerk from a neighboring township ran the election and counted the ballots.

Cheers erupted as voters heard the results from the recall election held to vote out the entire town board.

The new board will be sworn in on Wednesday, and the process to keep Gotion out of their township will begin. Gotion has already bought the property, so the new board is expecting a long road ahead, but they said they are willing to fight.

“We want everyone to have a voice and not have any secrecy anymore. This whole thing that went down with Gotion was horrible from the first go around. And like I said, the people have spoken,” one woman told NewsNation during Tuesday night’s election celebration.

NewsNation reached out to Gotion for a comment. The company responded: “We are a multinational company and don’t believe in political posturing and are still committed to bringing thousands of jobs to the state of Michigan.”

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police say they arrested 68 people for compelling or soliciting prostitution.

Authorities say the arrests were made between June 1 and July 31.

Police hope that by releasing the photos they'll raise awareness of human trafficking and put the community on notice that officers are no longer tolerating these crimes.

Law enforcement has been stepping up efforts to catch those participating in prostitution.

On Aug. 24, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office announced it made 11 arrests during an undercover sting that lasted two days.

Officials say some of the arrests were made close to schools, with one happening in the parking lot of a day care.

Tacking the word “denier” onto an issue — as in “climate denier” or “election denier”— is one of the dumbest rhetorical devices in modern politics. The purpose, of course, is to insinuate that the underlying position is insidious, beyond the pale, on par with Holocaust denial. One might debate a “conservative” on the issues, but a “denier;” well, that’s someone who can’t be reasoned with.

For starters, the logical and grammatical problem with the “denier” formulation is that nobody actually denies the existence of elections or climate. A “climate denier” is often a person who believes in economic tradeoffs and rejects eco-scaremongering. And an “election denier” is typically someone who believes that a political contest has been stolen, or corrupted, or unfairly implemented.
