Kshama Sawant, the socialist city councilwoman who led the efforts to defund and demonize the Seattle Police Department, is again asking for special treatment because someone keeps throwing poop at her.

Sawant sent a letter to the Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, demanding that he intervene and force the police department to take her investigation seriously, Capitol Hill Seattle reported.
“I am writing to express my concern that the Seattle Police Department (SPD) is failing to investigate a series of disturbing incidents at my home,” the letter read. “Six times now, bags of human excrement have been thrown into my yard, most recently on Thursday, October 13th. The events seem likely to be politically motivated, given their targeted nature and repetition.”
“The material used in these repeated attacks is classified as biohazardous waste,” Sawant’s letter to the mayor continued. “The police informed me the material can’t be sent to their lab for further investigation due to its hazardous nature. That seems quite odd considering that hospital labs do tests on human fecal matter all the time, but it does speak to the danger of having it repeatedly thrown in one’s yard.”
“It does not help that on at least one occasion, our dogs got into one of the bags before we realized what had happened. We had to call the animal poison control hotline, not knowing what the material was,” the councilwoman explained in her outraged letter.
“Most concerning is the very high likelihood that this extreme and hostile behavior is politically motivated, and could turn into more serious and dangerous harassment,” she added.
Then the lawmaker who led the charged to defund the Seattle police complained that officers were taking her seriously, Capitol Hill Seattle reported.
“Unfortunately, it does not appear that the Seattle Police Department agrees that this is in any way a serious matter,” Sawant complained in her letter. “I was informed yesterday, just five days after an investigation was opened on October 13th, that the case is being inactivated and no longer pursued at this time. This was after my husband reported an earlier incident (the fourth) on October 8th, when SPD officers immediately asked him, ‘What do you expect us to do?’ and did not open an investigation.”
Sawant implied in her letter that there was a conspiracy behind the police department’s lack of interest in her poop plight, Capitol Hill Seattle wrote.
“There is obviously a glaring inconsistency between this approach and the way in which former Mayor Durkan, after a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest was held a short distance from her mansion, was provided with a 24-hour stakeout for a full year,” she wrote.

Police body camera footage released Friday reveals the moment Paul Pelosi was viciously pummeled with a hammer in front of two cops by an unhinged attacker during a home invasion last year.
Bodycam footage shows a pained look on Pelosi’s his face as he holds on to one side of the hammer, while DePape prises his fingers away shortly after they open the door to cops and ask what’s going on.
DePape wrestles the hammer free and quickly swings it with full force as the cops run at him during the bizarre incident at their San Francisco abode on Oct. 28.
The attack left Pelosi unconscious with a fractured skull in a pool of his own blood.
San Francisco police officer Kyle Cagney described the incident in court last month when he and his partner arrived at the Pelosi residence for a wellness check at around 2:20 a.m.
In the video, Cagney’s partner can be heard ordering the men to “drop the hammer” — to which DePape responds “Um, nope” while Pelosi obeys the order and lets go of the tool.
“Whoa! Oh, s–t!” one of the officers can be heard shouting.
Cagney then tackled DePape and eventually pulled the hammer from his hands as Pelosi lay face-down on the ground bleeding, the officer said at the hearing.
The body camera footage, which also shows Pelosi answering the door, was played during at DePape’s preliminary court hearing on Dec. 14. — but prosecutors refused to release the evidence to the public at that time.
On Wednesday, a San Francisco County judge ruled the district attorney’s office must release the body camera footage along with 911 calls recorded the night of the break-in.
During the attack, DePape allegedly demanded to know “Where’s Nancy?” before threatening to tie up Pelosi and growling, “I can take you out,” according to court documents.
Pelosi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove and repair part of his skull. He spent nearly a week in intensive care.
DePape pleaded not guilty to attempted homicide, first degree burglary and other charges in November.
He was also hit with federal charges and faces up to 50 years behind bars if convicted.

The bill is not likely to be popular among influencers. There are a lot of American content creators on TikTok, and many have managed to devise a revenue stream from their popularity on the app.
Well, let me speak to that. My understanding—and I'm not an expert on influencer reimbursement—is that, actually, YouTube and some of the other platforms are, frankly, more lucrative for influencers. But I don't think this kind of social media app will disappear. I believe in the robustness of the competition system. People doing creative things on video. I'm all for it. It just needs to be done from a trusted source. And I'm not saying the videos themselves are being manipulated, but the types of videos being seen, I think the way that's being manipulated is a real concern. I don't have that concern as much if it's an app coming from a nation-state other than China. I might still have concerns as a father, but that doesn't morph into a national security concern.

Look, I've listened to TikTok's management. I've heard about the firewalls they've tried to build. They did not convince me. There are still constant reports of TikTok being potentially used to follow journalists. You continue to see these things where Chinese engineers are gaining access to American data, even though TikTok management says they're not. At the end of the day, you've got a hundred million Americans using TikTok on average 90 minutes a day. That's a powerful tool.

A former Bush speechwriter wrote about TikTok in The Washington Post recently. He said, "Americans would not tolerate their own government collecting so much sensitive information about them.” Last week, the FBI acknowledged that it had, in the past, purchased US location data rather than get a warrant to obtain it. What do you say to people more worried about their own government tracking them than one thousands of miles overseas?
That concerns me. I think the onus is on the FBI to ensure privacy is protected, and I do have concerns about some of the American-based companies, the Facebooks and Googles of the world. But they also enjoy First Amendment protections, and where I've tried to focus my activities, with regard to American companies, is on things like data portability and interoperability, so if you get tired of Facebook it's easier to transport yourself over to NewCo. Right now, it's really hard for new competitors to come into the space. Or dark patterns, things where there's manipulation. The old thing where apps only allow you to say “yes.” I think precluding dark patterns on American-based social media makes sense, and I've got bipartisan legislation on that. But it hasn't moved. I do think there is a different level of threat when the ultimate recipient, or manipulator, could be an authoritarian regime. I do think that raises the threat. But that doesn't mean there are no obligations on the FBI, and I think there should be obligations on American social media, and I think it's an embarrassment that we don't have a national privacy law.

Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson responded to this weekend’s violent “teen takeover” of the Windy City’s downtown area by urging the public not to “demonize” the hordes of rampaging young people who set cars on fire, clashed with cops and damaged private property.
Johnson, a progressive Democrat and former teachers union organizer who was elected mayor earlier this month, released a statement Sunday reacting to the disorder in his city that resulted in a shooting and more than a dozen arrests.
“In no way do I condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and lakefront this weekend. It is unacceptable and has no place in our city,” Johnson stated. “However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”
He continued: “Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains welcome for both residents and visitors.”
Johnson, 47, added that it is his goal as mayor to “improve public safety and make Chicago livable for everyone.”
Two nights of unrest, which were organized on social media, saw packs of out-of-control teens clash with cops, brawl with one another, vandalize property, and break into and set cars on fire.
One video showed several youngsters jump and dance atop a city bus.
Chicago police said two minors, ages 16 and 17, were wounded when someone in the crowd on East Washington Street opened fire.
No arrests have been made in that incident.
The incoming mayor’s response to the teen-led chaos was met with a swift backlash from conservatives on social media.
“Chicago is so screwed,” wrote Collin Rugg, co-owner of the right-wing news outlet Trending Politics.
“Incredible statement to those who saw the videos of violence and destruction. ‘Don’t demonize youth,’ for a little pop-up riot. It’s actually YOUR fault they did this,” tweeted Mike Cernovich, a conservative conspiracy theorist.

Other critics warned that Johnson’s reaction to the unrest a month before his inauguration did not bode well for Chicago’s future.
“Chicago about to fall to Detroit & Baltimore levels of ruin,” one user wrote, while another predicted: “Chicago will see more of this with Brandon Johnson as mayor. The exodus of businesses, residents and visitors from downtown is only going to get worse. Lawlessness is becoming rampant.”
Chicago’s outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot also released a statement addressing the “teen takeover.”
She said that while many of the youngsters gathered to have a good time and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather, she conceded that some were involved in “reckless, disrespectful and unlawful behavior.”
“As I have said before, we as a city cannot and will not allow any of our public spaces to become a platform for criminal conduct,” Lightfoot wrote. “Most importantly, parents and guardians must know where their children are and be responsible for their actions. Instilling the important values of respect for people and property must begin at home.”
Hundreds — and possibly as many as 1,000 — teens converged on the Chicago Loop for “Teen Takeover” in response to social media posts about a planned gathering near Millennium Park.
Police responded and turned away many minors from the park.
But a witness reported that despite increased police presence, cops “were still outnumbered.”
At least 15 people, among them six juveniles, were arrested in connection with the unrest. Most reportedly were charged with reckless conduct.
