The State of Israel was founded 75 years ago. The effects can still be felt today in the ongoing Middle East conflict. What are the historical roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? Israeli and Palestinian historians and experts share their reflections and contextualize the global political events of those years. The pivotal turning point came in November 1947 with the United Nations plan to partition British Mandatory Palestine. For some, it was a dream turned reality - an independent state offering Jews protection, refuge, and a homeland. For others, it marked the beginning of a "catastrophe,” what Palestinians call the "Nakba,” defined by the loss of homeland, displacement, and uncertainty. More than 75 years after the historic UN vote, the conflict between Israel and the now occupied Palestinian territories continues. It is a source of unresolved tension in the region with reverberations in and beyond the Middle East.

An anti-abortion ad that aired during “ The View ” this past week and criticized the show’s personalities was the most visible manifestation of a campaign that is making use of a federal law that forbids broadcasters from turning it down.

In the ad, a narrator says, “I am so sick of stupid celebrities and lying journalists,” while the screen shows pictures of “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg, her colleagues and other celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Robert DeNiro, Billie Eilish, Wolf Blitzer, Rachel Maddow and Dana Bash.

The ad compares the celebrities to Nazi leaders Joseph Goebbels and Leni Riefenstahl, criticizes the Americans for their so-called support of abortion rights and includes graphic pictures of aborted fetuses.

In a disclaimer that posted onscreen, ABC made clear it was holding the message at arm’s length: “The following is a paid political advertisement, and the ABC television network is required to carry it by federal law. The advertisement contains scenes that may be disturbing to children. Viewer discretion is advised.”


Ads are the work of a longtime anti-abortion activist
Longtime anti-abortion activist Randall Terry is behind the ads. Terry is a fringe candidate for president who has qualified for the ballot in a dozen states as the standardbearer of the Constitution Party, a status that has enabled him to get airtime for his commercials.

Under Federal Communications Commission regulations, broadcast stations “are prohibited from censoring or rejecting political ads that are paid for and sponsored by legally qualified candidates,” a standard that Terry has met.

“This is the last bastion of free speech,” Terry said in an interview. “The only place that you can still have free speech is on a licensed station as a federal candidate.”

The FCC rule applies only to candidates, not political organizations, meet its criteria and doesn’t apply to cable networks or web-based properties like podcasts. CNN, which is not required to show the ad and said it wouldn’t meet its standards anyway, issued a statement calling it “outrageous, antisemitic and dangerous.”

Terry already has another ad — featured on his website but not yet on television — that specifically targets CNN’s Jake Tapper.

“I’m not going to be the president,” Terry said. “I’m not delusional. The whole point of this is to cause Kamala’s defeat.”

To that end, many of his ads are anti-Harris and, except for a brief printed message on the screen, don’t even mention his candidacy. He has been running advertisements on a local level throughout the campaign, in each of the states where an abortion measure is on the ballot. A total of 40 local ads have been completed, along with a series of national advertisements, Terry said.

His target audience is people aged 50 to 80, an age group that would be most likely to watch broadcast television, who are likely Democratic voters, Catholics and Black.

Christian F. Nunes, president of the National Organization for Women, said she worries that the ads represent a manipulation of FCC regulations and are promoting hateful rhetoric.

“It’s definitely concerning,” Nunes said. “No one should be able to use running for office as a free pass in order to spew hate speech.”

Terry is probably more attuned than any activist to the use of FCC rules to help spread his message, said Jack Goodman, a Washington lawyer and former general counsel of the National Association of Broadcasters. He’s not aware of any efforts to change the regulations through the years.

⁣In this video I have posted the 2007 Hutchison Effect plastic boat experiment and condensed it in half to highlight the super high frequency 7 GHz radio waves causing the water to vibrate chaotically until it literally froths up into an all encompassing foam. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) issued a defiant response on Monday to former Trump co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita, signaling he would not be pressured to back a measure funding the government that President Trump supports and the House will consider on Tuesday.

“Someone thinks they can control my voting card by threatening my re-election. Guess what? Doesn’t work on me,” Massie wrote in a Monday post on the social platform X in response to LaCivita, who had written “tick tock Tommie” about the bill.

“Three times I’ve had a challenger who tried to be more MAGA than me. None busted 25 percent because my constituents prefer transparency and principles over blind allegiance,” Massie added.

Massie is the only House Republican to say definitively that he will vote against a continuing resolution that would keep the government funded through the end of September.

Trump has threatened to oust him for his opposition.

“Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic ‘NO’ vote on just about everything, despite the fact that he has always voted for Continuing Resolutions in the past,” Trump wrote in a Monday Truth Social post, comparing Massie to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

“HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED, and I will lead the charge against him. He’s just another GRANDSTANDER, who’s too much trouble, and not worth the fight.”

The Kentucky Republican has frequently shown opposition to Trump’s agenda. He has also frustrated Republicans in Congress at various times by voting against their funding measures.

“I’m not voting for the Continuing Resolution budget (cut-copy-paste omnibus) this week. Why would I vote to continue the waste fraud and abuse DOGE has found,” the Kentucky representative wrote on X.

Massie has used the backlash to raise campaign funds for his re-election bid, lauding himself as the “one person in Congress who won’t cave.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has remained supportive of Massie despite the anger from Trump and his allies.

“Look, I’m in the incumbent protection program here. That’s what I do,” Johnson said when asked about Trump’s threat to primary Massie.
“I bless those who persecute me, right? So, Thomas and I have had disagreements, but I consider Thomas Massie a friend,” Johnson added.
“He’s a thoughtful guy. I guess he’ll tell you he’s doing what he thinks is right on this. I just vehemently disagree with his position. But I’ll leave it at that.”

Fact Check: Video Shows Donald Trump With Mullet Hairstyle Dancing on 'Soul Train'?

A video authentically shows then-future U.S. President Donald Trump with a mullet hairstyle, dancing on "Soul Train."

Context:
The video is authentic and displayed no signs of someone doctoring the clip. However, the mulleted, dancing man was not Trump.

Ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, TikTok users shared a rumor claiming a video showed former President Donald Trump dancing on an episode of "Soul Train," the musical variety TV show that aired from 1971 to 2006.

For example, one TikTok post sharing the clip on July 12, 2024, received more than 1.4 million views. The video's onscreen caption read, "Donald Trump when he danced on 'Soul Train.'"

The same video with the mention of Trump's name also appeared in the past on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. The music the man was dancing to varied from video to video, as the the social media users altered the soundtrack.

The 45th president has been known to dance following some of his rallies, and to have busted a move with noteworthy figures in decades past, too.

However, no, that's not Trump dancing on "Soul Train."

While we realize some users probably knew that the video didn't show Trump and that they were simply sharing it as a humorous joke, we received several emails from readers who wanted to find the source of the footage.

On Sept. 11, 2017, a user on the platform then known as Twitter posted the same video, except with the original audio and a clearer picture. The user did not mention Trump's name.

The song in the original video was "Why Should I Cry" by Nona Hendryx. The moment from the video appeared on "Soul Train" on May 2, 1987.
According to Fandom.com, the episode was No. 25 during the show's 16th season.

A search of the Getty Images website for pictures of Trump between 1985 and 1989 showed he never had hair as long as the man with the mullet, nor was he quite so thin at the time.

⁣The Israeli company behind the modified Signal app used by the Trump administration has been hacked.

TeleMessage’s backend panel was accessed using credentials found in intercepted data. The hacker exposed archived messages and contact info for U.S. officials.

The hack reveals that archived chat logs are not end-to-end encrypted between the modified messaging app and the final archive destination controlled by the TeleMessage customer.

Commenting on the Israeli modification of Signal adopted by the US government, signalapp told 404media that “We cannot guarantee the privacy or security properties of unofficial versions of Signal.”

The Signal Clone the Trump Admin Uses Was Hacked
A hacker has breached and stolen customer data from TeleMessage, an obscure Israeli company that sells modified versions of Signal and other messaging apps to the U.S. government to archive messages, 404 Media has learned. The data stolen by the hacker contains the contents of some direct messages and group chats sent using its Signal clone, as well as modified versions of WhatsApp, Telegram, and WeChat. TeleMessage was recently the center of a wave of media coverage after Mike Waltz accidentally revealed he used the tool in a cabinet meeting with President Trump.
The hack shows that an app gathering messages of the highest ranking officials in the government—Waltz’s chats on the app include recipients that appear to be Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard, and JD Vance—contained serious vulnerabilities that allowed a hacker to trivially access the archived chats of some people who used the same tool. The hacker has not obtained the messages of cabinet members, Waltz, and people he spoke to, but the hack shows that the archived chat logs are not end-to-end encrypted between the modified version of the messaging app and the ultimate archive destination controlled by the TeleMessage customer.
Data related to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the cryptocurrency giant Coinbase, and other financial institutions are included in the hacked material, according to screenshots of messages and backend systems obtained by 404 Media.

The breach is hugely significant not just for those individual customers, but also for the U.S. government more widely. On Thursday, 404 Media was first to report that at the time U.S. National Security Advisor Waltz accidentally revealed he was using TeleMessage’s modified version of Signal during the cabinet meeting. The use of that tool raised questions about what classification of information was being discussed across the app and how that data was being secured, and came after revelations top U.S. officials were using Signal to discuss active combat operations.
The hacker did not access all messages stored or collected by TeleMessage, but could have likely accessed more data if they decided to, underscoring the extreme risk posed by taking ordinarily secure end-to-end encrypted messaging apps such as Signal and adding an extra archiving feature to them.
“I would say the whole process took about 15-20 minutes,” the hacker said, describing how they broke into TeleMessage’s systems. “It wasn’t much effort at all.” 404 Media does not know the identity of the hacker, but has verified aspects of the material they have anonymously provided.

The data includes apparent message contents; the names and contact information for government officials; usernames and passwords for TeleMessage’s backend panel; and indications of what agencies and companies might be TeleMessage customers. The data is not representative of all of TeleMessage’s customers or the sorts of messages it covers; instead, it is snapshots of data passing through TeleMessage’s servers at a point in time. The hacker was able to login to the TeleMessage backend panel using the usernames and passwords found in these snapshots.
A message sent to a group chat called “Upstanding Citizens Brigade” included in the hacked data says its “source type” is “Signal,” indicating it came from TeleMessage’s modified version of the messaging app. The message itself was a link to this tweet posted on Sunday which is a clip of an NBC Meet the Press interview with President Trump about his memecoin. The hacked data includes phone numbers that were part of the group chat.
One hacked message was sent to a group chat apparently associated with the crypto firm Galaxy Digital. One message said, “need 7 dems to get to 60.. would be very close” to the “GD Macro” group. Another message said, “Just spoke to a D staffer on the senate side - 2 cosponsors (Alsobrooks and gillibrand) did not sign the opposition letter so they think the bill still has a good chance of passage the senate with 5 more Ds supporting it.”

This means a hacker was able to steal what appears to be active, timely discussion about the efforts behind passing a hugely important and controversial cryptocurrency bill; Saturday, Democratic lawmakers published a letter explaining they would oppose it. Bill cosponsors Maryland Sen. Angela Alsobrooks and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand did not sign that letter.
One screenshot of the hacker’s access to a TeleMessage panel lists the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of CBP officials. The screenshot says “select 0 of 747,” indicating that there may be that many CBP officials included in the data. A similar screenshot shows the contact information of current and former Coinbase employees.
Another screenshot obtained by 404 Media mentions Scotiabank. Financial institutions might turn to a tool like TeleMessage to comply with regulations around keeping copies of business communications. Governments have legal requirements to preserve messages in a similar way.
Another screenshot indicates that the Intelligence Branch of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police may be using the tool.

The hacker was able to access data that the app captured intermittently for debugging purposes, and would not have been able to capture every single message or piece of data that passes through TeleMessage’s service. However, the sample data they captured did contain fragments of live, unencrypted data passing through TeleMessage’s production server on their way to getting archived.
404 Media verified the hacked data in various ways. First, 404 Media phoned some of the numbers listed as belonging to CBP officials. In one case, a person who answered said their name was the same as the one included in the hacked data, then confirmed their affiliation with CBP when asked. The voicemail message for another number included the name of an alleged CBP official included in the data.
404 Media ran several phone numbers that appeared to be associated with employees at crypto firms Coinbase and Galaxy through a search tool called OSINT Industries, which confirmed that these phone numbers belonged to people who worked for these companies.
The server that the hacker compromised is hosted on Amazon AWS’s cloud infrastructure in Northern Virginia. By reviewing the source code of TeleMessage’s modified Signal app for Android, 404 Media confirmed that the app sends message data to this endpoint. 404 Media also made an HTTP request to this server to confirm that it is online.
TeleMessage came to the fore after a Reuters photographer took a photo in which Waltz was using his mobile phone. Zooming in on that photo revealed he was using a modified version of Signal made by TeleMessage. The photograph came around a month after The Atlantic reported that top U.S. officials were using Signal to message one another about military operations. As part of that, Waltz accidentally added the editor-in-chief of the publication to the Signal group chat.
TeleMessage offers governments and companies a way to archive messages from end-to-end encrypted messaging apps such as Signal and WhatsApp. TeleMessage does this by making modified versions of those apps that send copies of messages to a remote server. A video from TeleMessage posted to YouTube claims that its app keeps “intact the Signal security and end-to-end encryption when communicating with other Signal users.”
“The only difference is the TeleMessage version captures all incoming and outgoing Signal messages for archiving purposes,” the video continues.
It is not true that an archiving solution properly preserves the security offered by an end-to-end encrypted messaging app such as Signal. Ordinarily, only someone sending a Signal message and their intended recipient will be able to read the contents of the message. TeleMessage essentially adds a third party to that conversation by sending copies of those messages somewhere else for storage. If not stored securely, those copies could in turn be susceptible to monitoring or falling into the wrong hands.
That theoretical risk has now become very real.
A Signal spokesperson previously told 404 Media in email “We cannot guarantee the privacy or security properties of unofficial versions of Signal.”
White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly previously told NBC News in an email: “As we have said many times, Signal is an approved app for government use and is loaded on government phones.”
The hacker told 404 Media that they targeted TeleMessage because they were “just curious how secure it was.” They did not want to disclose the issue to the company directly because they believed the company might “try their best to cover it up.”
“If I could have found this in less than 30 minutes then anybody else could too. And who knows how long it’s been vulnerable?” the hacker said.
404 Media is not explaining in detail how the hacker managed to obtain this data in case others may try to exploit the same vulnerability.
According to public procurement records, TeleMessage has contracts with a range of U.S. government agencies, including the State Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Guy Levit, CEO of TeleMessage, directed a request for comment to a press representative of Smarsh, TeleMessage’s parent company. That representative did not immediately respond to an email or voicemail.
Recently, after the wave of media coverage about Waltz’s use of the tool, TeleMessage wiped its website. Before then it contained details on the services it offers, what its apps were capable of, and in some cases direct downloads for the archiving apps themselves.
A Coinbase spokesperson told 404 Media in an email “We are aware of reports that a third party communications tool widely used across the tech, banking, and other industries for archival and trade surveillance purposes has been breached. We are closely following these reports and assessing their impact on Coinbase. At this time, there is no evidence any sensitive Coinbase customer information was accessed or that any customer accounts are at risk, since Coinbase does not use this tool to share passwords, seed phrases, or other data needed to access accounts.”
Neither CBP, Scotiabank, Galaxy Digital, nor Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police responded to a request for comment.

It’s hard to find any information at all on a one “Hendricus G. Loos,” despite the fact that he’s filed multiple patent applications, with success, for apparatuses that deal with the manipulation of the human nervous system via a computer screen or a television monitor. In the abstract, he explains the following,

“Physiological effects have been observed in a human subject in response to stimulation of the skin with weak electromagnetic fields that are pulsed with certain frequencies near ½ Hz or 2.4 Hz, such as to excite a sensory resonance. Many computer monitors and TV tubes, when displaying pulsed images, emit pulsed electromagnetic fields of sufficient amplitudes to cause such excitation. It is therefore possible to manipulate the nervous system of a subject by pulsing images displayed on a nearby computer monitor or TV set. For the latter, the image pulsing may be imbedded in the program material, or it may be overlaid by modulating a video stream, either as an RF signal or as a video signal. The image displayed on a computer monitor may be pulsed effectively by a simple computer program. For certain monitors, pulsed electromagnetic fields capable of exciting sensory resonances in nearby subjects may be generated even as the displayed images are pulsed with subliminal intensity.”

The concerning thing about this, as the patent application explains, is that even a very weak pulse can have adverse affects on the human nervous system.

He then goes on to describe that pulse variability and strength can be controlled through software, and explains how, with regards to a computer monitor, DVDs, video tapes and more, and also how it can be remotely controlled from another location.
Perhaps the most concerning part is this,

“Certain monitors can emit electromagnetic field pulses that excite a sensory resonance in a nearby subject, through image pulses that are so weak as to be subliminal. This is unfortunate since it opens a way for mischievous application of the invention, whereby people are exposed unknowingly to manipulation of their nervous systems for someone else’s purposes. Such application would be unethical and is of course not advocated. It is mentioned here in order to alert the public to the possibility of covert abuse that may occur while being online, or while watching TV, a video, or a DVD.”
