Tucker Carlson was called to Washington because of a possible interview with Putin.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said the US National Security Agency hacked into his Signal account and read correspondence about a planned interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the presenter, he received a call and was summoned to Washington to clarify the situation. When he arrived, the question was asked if he was planning a trip to meet with Putin.

“How did you know, I didn’t tell anyone. Not at all. Not to my brother, not to my wife, not to anyone at all. How did you know? Because the NSA hacked into your correspondence with another person with whom you discussed this,” Carlson said.

Tucker Carlson was talking to U.S.-based Kremlin intermediaries about setting up an interview with Vladimir Putin shortly before the Fox News host accused the National Security Agency of spying on him, sources familiar with the conversations tell Axios.

Why it matters: Those sources said U.S. government officials learned about Carlson's efforts to secure the Putin interview.
Carlson learned that the government was aware of his outreach — and that's the basis of his extraordinary accusation, followed by a rare public denial by the NSA that he had been targeted.

Axios has not confirmed whether any communications from Carlson have been intercepted, and if so, why.

The big picture: Carlson's charges instantly became a cause célèbre on the right, which feasted on the allegation that one of

Carlson said his source, "who is in a position to know, repeated back to us information about a story that we are working on that could have only come directly from my texts and emails."

"It's illegal for the NSA to spy on American citizens," Carlson added. "Things like that should not happen in America. But unfortunately, they do happen. And in this case, they did happen."

The NSA said in a tweet the next night, as Carlson's show went on the air, that his "allegation is untrue."

"Tucker Carlson has never been an intelligence target of the Agency and the NSA has never had any plans to try to take his program off the air," the statement said.

A Fox News spokesperson gave this response to our reporting: "We support any of our hosts pursuing interviews and stories free of government interference."

And Carlson gave this statement: "As I've said repeatedly, because it's true, the NSA read my emails, and then leaked their contents. That's an outrage, as well as illegal.”

It is unclear why Carlson, or his source, would think this outreach could be the basis for NSA surveillance or a motive to have his show canceled.

Journalists routinely reach out to world leaders — including the leaders of countries that are not allied with the U.S. — to request interviews. And it's not unusual to first reach out through unofficial intermediaries rather than through the leaders' official press offices.

Numerous American journalists have interviewed Putin in recent years, and none have faced professional repercussions. Quite the contrary: Chris Wallace earned Fox News its first Emmy nomination for his 2018 Putin interview.
On Wednesday, Carlson told Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business that only his executive producer knew about the communications in question and that he didn't mention it to anybody else, including his wife.

But, of course, the recipients of Carlson's texts and emails also knew about their content. And we don't know how widely they shared this information.

Between the lines: The NSA's public statement didn't directly deny that any Carlson communications had been swept up by the agency.

Axios submitted a request for comment to the NSA on Wednesday, asking whether the agency would also be willing to categorically deny that the NSA intercepted any of Carlson's communications in the context of monitoring somebody he was talking to in his efforts to set up an interview with Putin.

A debate between TalkTV's Piers Morgan and Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef about the Israel-Hamas war has been watched on YouTube 11 million times in 24 hours.

Mr Youssef turned the debate on its head with sarcasm in an attempt to throw Piers off course, forcing him to remind the comedian: "This is my show and not a monologue for you."

The former Egyptian television host mocked the spread of misinformation during the conflict and joked that Palestinians are difficult to kill.

"They never die, they always come back," he said. "They are very difficult to kill, very difficult people to kill. I know because I'm married to one. I've tried many times, I couldn't kill her."

Mr Youssef's wife, with whom he shares two children, is Egyptian-Palestinian.

When Piers said he understood Youssef's dark humour, the former Egyptian television host shot back: “No, it’s not dark humour. I really try to get her every time but she uses our kids as human shields!”

The comedian also mocked Jewish commentator Ben Shapiro, who was interviewed by Piers last week, for insisting on Israel's right to defend itself.

Sarcastically suggesting he agreed with Shapiro who is "one of the smartest people who ever walked the earth,” Youssef said: “We should kill as many sons of bitches as possible,” to stop the violence.

“So my question is: how many more sons of bitches do we need to kill so Ben Shapiro is happy?” he asked rhetorically.

He also mocked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, falsely congratulating him for praising the Israeli Defence Force for "warning" Palestinian civilians before bombing Gaza.

“They said Israel is the only military force in the world that warns civilians before bombing them,” he said. “How fucking cute! That is so nice of them because with this logic, if Russian troops started warning Ukrainians before bombing their houses, we’re cool with Putin, right!?”

Piers suggested that he doesn't know what the "proportionate response" to a terrorist attack of Hamas's scale would be.

Youssef responded by showing a graph allegedly showing the number of deaths on both sides of the conflict prior to the attacks.

"What will be different this time?" he asked.

He then pretending to praise Piers for warning about the spread of misinformation during the Iraq war: "You are a good man, you are amazing.

"You know what is similar? You spreading the lies of 40 decapitated babies, although it was refuted," an allegation Piers denied.

After Piers highlighted Israel would not be able to defeat Hamas without "massive collateral damage,” Youssef suggested he was portraying Israel as a terrorist state.

“So, if I understand this correctly, Israel is doing this to pressure the Palestinian community in Gaza to turn against Hamas?” Youssef wondered.

“I'm sure that’s part of it, yes,” Morgan replied.

Youssef continued: “This is exactly what terrorist organisations do because terrorist organisations will have no chance of beating a whole nation in battle so they terrorise and they kill the civilians in order to spread fear and terror so they can turn against their government to change their policy or to resign. You have just compared Israel with ISIS!”

“No, I haven’t. I don’t I don’t see any comparison between Israel and ISIS,” Piers objected.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it was investigating the incident at the UN school. Initial inquiries showed that "Hamas militants fired mortar shells from the vicinity of the school, and [Israeli] soldiers responded by firing towards the origins of the fire", a spokeswoman said.

A UN source said there was no evidence of militant activity inside the school.

The US, which has been at odds with Israel's prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, over efforts to secure a ceasefire, condemned the school shelling but did not specifically blame Israel.

The incident comes after an explosion at another UN school in Beit Hanoun last week as the playground was filled with families awaiting evacuation. Israel denied responsibility for the deaths, saying a single "errant" shell fired by its forces hit the school playground, which was empty at the time.

UNRWA has rejected the IDF's account, saying an initial shell was followed by several others within minutes. Reporters who visited the school shortly afterwards said damage and debris was consistent with mortar rounds. UNRWA has found rockets at three of its schools in Gaza in the past three weeks, which it has swiftly condemned as "flagrant violation[s] of the neutrality of our premises".

Israel says militants from Hamas and other organisations launch rockets from the vicinity of UNRWA properties.

The Israeli military said it had targeted more than 4,100 sites in Gaza since the start of the conflict on 8 July. The death toll in Gaza rose above 1,300 on Wednesday.

A defendant has attacked a judge during a felony battery case, dragging her to the floor and sparking a brawl involving court officials and attorneys, officials and witnesses have said.

In a violent scene captured on courtroom video on Wednesday, Deobra Delone Redden jumped over a defence table and the judge’s bench, knocking the Clark county district judge Mary Kay Holthus from her seat and against a wall then pulled her to the floor. She sustained some injuries but was not sent to the hospital, courthouse officials said.

A courtroom marshal was also injured as he came to the judge’s aid and was hospitalised for treatment to a gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder, according to the officials and witnesses.

The attack occurred at about 11am (local time) at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas.

Redden, 30, was wrestled to the floor behind the judge’s bench by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members.

He was arrested and jailed at the Clark county detention centre, where records showed he faces several new felony charges, including battery on a protected person, referring to the judge and court officers.

“It happened so fast it was hard to know what to do,” said Richard Scow, the chief county district attorney who prosecuted Redden on a case that stemmed from an arrest last year over allegations that Redden attacked a person with a baseball bat.

Redden’s defence attorney, Caesar Almase, did not respond to requests for comment.

Redden was not in custody when he arrived at court on Wednesday. He wore a white shirt and dark pants as he stood next to Almase, asking the judge for leniency while describing himself as “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is”.

“I’m not a rebellious person,” he told the judge, later adding that he did not think he should be sent to prison. “But if it’s appropriate for you then you have to do what you have to do.”

As the judge made it clear she intended to send him to prison, and the court marshal moved to handcuff him, Redden yelled expletives and charged forward amid screams from members of the public in the courtroom.

Records showed Redden, a Las Vegas resident, was evaluated and found mentally competent to stand trial before pleading guilty in November to a reduced charge of attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm. He had previously served prison time in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction, state records show.

Holthus, a career prosecutor with more than 27 years of court experience, was elected to the state court bench in 2018 and again in 2022.

In a statement, the court spokesperson Mary Ann Price said officials were “reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees”.

With Northern California’s traditional rainy season having gone dry, some water and power agencies are taking to the skies in hope of boosting rain and snowfall through a practice known as cloud seeding.
Cloud seeding, mostly done with planes, sows rain clouds with a chemical vapor, including silver iodide particles that can bond with moisture, freeze into ice crystals and fall as rain or snow, artificially increasing the amount of precipitation from the clouds.
While the process of chemically altering the weather sounds like something from a sci-fi story, the practice stretches back to the 1940s and has been successful enough that the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, a power provider, has used it since 1969 to increase the rainfall and snowfall that helps fuel its hydroelectric power plants.
“We see an average of 3 to 10% increase in snowpack” as a result of cloud seeding, said Lindsay VanLaningham, a spokesperson for SMUD.
An area that might normally see snowfall equal to 50 inches of rainfall could produce up to 55 inches, in other words.
SMUD sent up a cloud-seeding plane Tuesday as a storm front moved over the Sacramento area and toward the Sierra. Its target was the upper American River area, where the utility’s reservoirs and power plants are located.
Cloud-seeding aircraft release the silver iodide particles through a series of long, narrow tubes or flares mounted on the wings. They serve as nuclei around which water vapor in the clouds bond and freezes. If they grow heavy enough, they fall to the ground as precipitation.
How often — and when — SMUD seeds depends on a number of factors including whether there are storm clouds, as well as on the physics of those clouds and the frequency of arriving storms.
“For example the wind speed, direction, air temperature, moisture content, icing structure, available storage in our reservoirs as well as numerous other factors must all align perfectly,” VanLaningham said.
SMUD is one of seven agencies in California that currently sow silver iodide into clouds, according to the state Department of Water Resources. The department doesn’t conduct or fund cloud seeding projects, said Jason Ince, a spokesperson for the agency but does track who’s engaging in the practice and where.
No Bay Area water agencies use cloud seeding, and in addition to SMUD, the only Northern California utility that uses it is the Northern California Power Agency, a consortium of municipal utilities that includes Alameda, Santa Clara, Palo Alto and Healdsburg as well as BART and the Port of Oakland and seeds over the watershed of the Upper San Joaquin, Upper Tuolumne and Kings rivers.
The Desert Research Institute uses cloud seeding in the Tahoe/Truckee, Carson and Walker River basins in the eastern Sierra, Ince said, but most of those areas are in Nevada.
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. used cloud seeding to employ cloud seeding in the watershed of Lake Almanor and north fork of Stanislaus River but has not notified state water officials of its intent to seed clouds this water year.
The East Bay Municipal Utility District doesn’t have its own cloud-seeding program, said spokesperson Andrea Pook, but contributes a small amount of money to PG&E programs since the utility has reservoirs upstream from EBMUD’s.
“The idea of (cloud seeding) is certainly valid,” she said. “It works in a lab. The question is how much does it really help?”

What if a legendary boxer and a UFC champion went to war against each other? And what if Jon Jones and Mike Tyson filled those shoes and engaged in verbal warfare? The amusing but hypothetical scenario would definitely take the combat sports world by storm. The fans would flock to the press conference, and the exciting fight would shatter the PPV records. A recent clip offers a glimpse into what would go down if the two combat sports titans threw verbal sludge at each other.

‘Bones’ and ‘Iron Mike’ remain two of the most dominant forces in their respective sports. While the MMA fighter has cemented his legacy as the GOAT in the UFC, there are few doubters of Tyson’s title as the ‘baddest’ man on the planet. However, with their careers stretching over different timelines, the chances of a fight between the two are rather slim. But the UFC’s heavyweight champion came across a clip that left him in splits as he apparently engaged with Tyson in an electric exchange.

The 36-year-old fighter turned to his Instagram handle and shared a clip on his Instagram story. Notably, in the edited clip, the fans can spot the interviews of both fighters juxtaposed in such a manner that both appear to be in heated arguments with each other. And it appears the decorated boxer is already agitated.

The UFC champion started the proceedings by poking fun at Tyson. He said, “Oh, you so mad that I can hear it in your voice. F*cking b*tch. Hey, b*tch, are you still there?” The sheer disrespect didn’t sit well with the American boxer.

Tyson hit back with a scathing response as he declared, “How dare you talk to me like that! You should get up and kneel to me now and I’ll spare you on the night of 28th. Ok, I don’t know why you talking to me like that when you know I’ll kill you for it.”

Following this, Jones pointed out, “Coming from a kid who is 5’10.”

At this point, Tyson had enough, as he had made his usual prediction of their supposed fight. He expressed, “Oh man, I can’t wait till 28th. I’m gonna make you my girlfriend. I’m gonna make sure you kiss me good with those big lips.”

The comical but fabricated interaction caught Jones’ attention, and he even left a comment on the post. He responded, “😂”.

Markedly, Tyson’s original remarks were directed at Canadian boxer Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock in the lead-up to their rematch on June 28, 1991. With a stellar victory, he established himself as the number-one contender in the division. On the other hand, Jones had blasted Daniel Cormier with his choice words in the build-up to their match at UFC 182 and subsequently defended his title.

Jon Jones will fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November at Madison Square Garden. Meanwhile, Tyson is helping Jones’ MMA rival Francis Ngannou train for his boxing debut against Tyson Fury.
