What were the Orphan Trains and what did they do for children? It’s an intriguing story. It’s considered the precursor to modern foster care in America.

The orphan train movement in America was a unique experiment in child welfare. Back in the mid-1800's, there were not a lot of options for poor, homeless, abused, and/or neglected children other than orphanages or almshouses. The issue of these types of children was especially noticeable in New York City, where there were estimates of over 30,000 children living on the streets in the 1850's. These children often lived in groups and were susceptible to disease and abuse from strangers. Many of them looked for ways to make a little money by selling match sticks, rags, and other small items. Others turned to crime. Police had no idea what to do with these children when they were caught stealing food or other items they needed to get by on the streets, so they put them in jail. While they were housed and fed in jail, they were also kept with the adult prisoners, which was not always a good situation for the children, especially since children as young as five years old were sometimes jailed with violent adult criminals.

Charles Loring Brace, a minister, and philanthropist thought there should be a better way for these children. He did not believe the orphanages and almshouses did them any good, as they received no education or job training there, and only learned to depend on charity to get the things they needed. He wanted to teach these children how to work and earn a living on their own while giving them good homes, so they could be independent as adults. These beliefs led him to start the Orphan Train movement.

With the Orphan Trains, street children abused and neglected children, and orphans were taken from wherever they were residing in New York City, and placed on trains to the West. Brace believed the pioneers in the West could use extra children to help on the farms. The children were to be treated just as any other child in the family, and older children were to receive wages for the work they did while living with their new family. Employees of his Children's Aid Society, which operated the orphan trains, were to periodically check in on the children to make sure they were being treated well by the people who took them in. If they weren't, they could be moved to new families.

While there were times that a placement didn't work out, the program was by and large successful. Most of the approximately 200,000 children who were sent away on an Orphan Train between 1853 and 1929 grew up to do well for themselves. There were even a couple of future governors among the Orphan Train children. The program only stopped when it did because of the onset of the Great Depression, when having an extra child was just not feasible for most families, and when more organized and better run state care options, like group homes and foster care, were available to needy children, not just in NYC, but in every state.

There were some critics of the program, of course. The main criticism was that children were placed with families in situations that resembled slave auctions. While the children weren't being bought, and indentured servitude was forbidden for the families taking these children, the arrival of each trainload of children was advertised, and local people encouraged to gather at a large meeting place to see the available children. They would examine the children for physical strength and endurance that were appropriate for farm work, sometimes even looking at their teeth. Siblings who went on trains together may be chosen by different families. And, while there was a nominal vetting process for families at first, it wasn't really kept up, nor was the process of checking in on the children once they were placed. Some children were abused by the families who took them in, some were treated like slaves, and not every child got the education and job training they were promised. Some children ran away, either because of abuse or because farm life was too different from what they were used to in the city.

In spite of some issues with the program, the Orphan Trains were, by and large, a success, and the children who traveled on them benefited from the new lives they were given. There are some Orphan Train children still alive today, from the later days of the program, and they can tell the true stories of the Orphan Train experience. As for Brace, he is now considered the father of modern foster care.

Since September 11, 2001, a tidal wave of conspiracy theories has surrounded the events of the day that changed the course of American history. The attacks, which saw 3,000 New Yorkers lose their lives and countless more injured years later have been the subject of fierce speculation from conspiracy-minded people all over the world.

While not all conspiracy theories about what happened on 9/11 are antisemitic, there’s a pervasive strain of antisemitic thought through some of the most popular.

Even this week, as the 22nd anniversary of the attacks approaches, some social media users are still spreading falsehoods about the attacks, and linking Jews to the violent acts. One of the most common refrains among 9/11 conspiracy theorists is the story of the ‘dancing Israelis.’

According to those who reject the official version of events, five Israeli men were seen dancing in the streets of New York in the wake of the attacks, were arrested and later released without charge. When police arrested them, they were found with cash, multiple passports and box cutters.

According to some sources, including a bizarre 2003 Scottish Herald article, the implication is that these five young men, from Israel, knew about the attacks beforehand, and were shadowing the Al-Qaeda terrorists, supporting the attack from afar in an attempt to draw America closer to Israel politically.

While there is no evidence for any of these claims, the root of this story has some truth. Five Israelis were indeed arrested in the wake of the attacks, they did have box cutters on them. But they were in the US working for a fellow Israeli’s delivery company Urban Moving Systems, in a job where box cutters are frequently used… to cut open boxes.

The Israeli men were first reported by a New Jersey housewife, who saw the group of five standing on a van near the Doric Towers apartment buildings in Union City, New Jersey on a cliffside overlooking the Manhattan skyline and the Twin Towers. When she called to report the men, she said: “All of the males appeared to be jovial in that they smiled, hugged one another, and gave ‘high fives.’”

A year after the attacks, she told ABC News: “They seemed to be taking a movie. They were like happy, you know ... they didn't look shocked to me. I thought it was strange." None however was dancing.

The ‘Dancing Israeli’ moniker came from an altogether different source, the father of 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta. In a USA Today article from a few weeks after the attacks, quoting Muslim officials from around the world who were alleging that Israel was behind the plot, Atta’s grieving father said that there was insufficient attention being paid to the fact that “The FBI seized a number of Jews while they were dancing in celebration over the incidents.”

The men were arrested later that day when the van was spotted driving near the NY Giants NFL stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. FBI agents stopped the men’s van and pulled them out. Sivan Kurzberg, the driver, reportedly said at the time: "We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem."

So what were the men doing that day? News website The Gray Zone spoke to one of the Israeli men involved, who recounted that fateful day. The man, who the publication did not name, said that they were at work when news of the attacks first broke, and when they realised that work was cancelled, drove to Union City to get a better view of what was happening. ⁣Then, when attempting to return to their shared apartment in Brooklyn, ended up caught in a police blockade where they were arrested.

The Israeli men were eventually processed in a federal detention centre in Manhattan. While arrested, US immigration officials discovered they were overstaying their visas and after weeks of interrogation, Sivan Kurzberg, Paul Kurzberg, Omer Gavriel Marmari, Yaron Shmuel and Oded Ellner all signed documents admitting violations of US immigration law and returned to Israel.

One of the men, Yaron Shmuel, vented his frustration at the incident to Israeli newspaper Ma’ariv, saying:“They pulled guns on us, threw us to the ground like terrorists, and citizens that were in the area yelled ‘shoot them in the head.’”

As the New York Times reported at the time, the five men were caught in the wide net thrown by American law enforcement officials, eager to be seen to be taking action after the actions of 9/11.

A report by the FBI cleared their names later that month. A field report published a few weeks later stated: “Both the Newark and the New York Divisions conducted a thorough investigation which determined that none of the Israelis had any information on prior knowledge regarding the bombing of the World Trade Center. Furthermore, Newark and New York determined that none of the Israelis were actively engaged in clandestine intelligence activities in the United States.”

A lawyer who represented two Turkish men arrested when their car broke down near a US military base told the NY Times: “The F.B.I. is vacuuming up everything, good, bad and indifferent,''

He added that in his view authorities would ''rather lock everybody up as a means to convince the public they're doing everything appropriate.''

So while the ‘dancing Israelis’ of 9/11 were ultimately found to have nothing to do with the attacks, this has not stopped them from being referenced as a key part of conspiracy theories suggesting Jews either perpetrated or had advance knowledge of the terrorist attacks. According to the Mountain Eagle, District Judge Kevin Mullins and Sheriff Mickey Stines exchanged phones.

When Stines was apparently unhappy with what he found, he opened fire on the judge.

Stines was previously Mullins' bailiff before he became sheriff in 2018.

The two had lunch together just hours before the incident.

Sheriff Stines later went to the courthouse to speak with Mullins. They then went to the judge's office, where they continued their conversation.

A short conversation took place before the sheriff got up and locked the door. Both men then took out their cell phones and handed them to each other.

Stines then got up and pulled out his gun, walked around the desk and repeatedly shot Mullins who passed.

It's unclear what the argument was about but an unconfirmed report claims the sheriff found out the judge had r*ped his daughter.

They are allergic to work, preferring instead to occupy themselves by reading the Talmud and arguing endlessly with other Jews about what they read. Bhopal: In a shocking incident from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, a 24-year-old man was filmed brutally assaulting a 19-year-old woman for allegedly refusing to marry him. A viral video of the heart-wrenching attack showed the couple walking while holding hands when suddenly the man slaps her, grabs her hair, and slams her into the ground head-first. He then mercilessly kicks her with full force in the face and all over her body. The woman appears unconscious from the attack, and the man tried to steady her on her feet while instructing his friend who was recording the video to delete the footage. The woman was seen lying unconscious for hours on the side of the road.

The distressing video was shot on Wednesday in the Mauganj area of Rewa. The police registered a case against the two men under different sections of the law, including the IT Act, and have arrested the accused, Pankaj Tripathi, and the man who was recording the video. Pankaj Tripathi was caught from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh after being on the run for days. Police are now interrogating both men.

Pankaj allegedly got furious when the woman refused to marry him, as her family didn't approve.

Locals found the woman unconscious on the side of the road, and informed the police, who took her to the hospital for treatment, and also registered a case.

Rewa's Additional Superintendent of Police, Anil Sonkar, said the man is a resident of Dhera village in Mauganj town, while the girl is from some other village.

"There was a dispute between the two about something, and the man beat up the woman. The people present on the spot informed the police, after which we reached the spot and brought the young couple with them. The woman was then sent to the hospital for treatment," Mr Sonkar said, adding that the woman's mother, who reached the police station, did not take any action.

The police, acting on the basis of the viral video, has registered a case against the man.

The victim filed a complaint against the person who shot and circulated the video, and a case has been registered under the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Tucker Carlson blames Biden & minorities for aviation incidents

Tucker Carlson went on a nearly four minute rant last night. Let me summarize what he said, so you don’t actually have to watch it:

Aviation used to be safe until Biden became president, because “Biden imposed the principles of equity on the airlines, and that meant dramatically lowering hiring standards for pilots and for air traffic controllers”

Last week there was a go-around at Houston’s Airport that “terrified” passengers, yet the media isn’t talking about it (lol)

Carlson wants to know what’s going on, so he reached out to an unnamed United Airlines pilot, who claims that “under its woke CEO Scott Kirby, the airline has allowed politics and racialist ideologies to trump safety concerns,” putting the lives of passengers in grave danger

Carlson then quotes the same unnamed pilot who says he heard from another unnamed pilot that “the captain of the Maui flight was brand new,” and “there was a new-hire first officer,” and talks about how in the training simulators, a new pilot tried to make 25 landings, and “15 ended up in the dirt”

Southwest has also dramatically lowered its hiring standards, and people in Southwest’s academy largely end up flying for charter airline Swift Air, to “fly illegal aliens around the country without the American population knowing about it”

Carlson concludes that “this is what it looks like in real terms when you decide that identity is more important than aptitude in something critical like aviation”

Bottom line: Tucker Carlson is trying to insinuate that we’re seeing a series of aviation incidents because of President Biden’s “woke” policies.

Regardless of where you stand politically, this is patently false.

Yes, there’s reason to be concerned by the alarming number of near miss aviation incidents we’ve seen recently. These incidents are on some level happening because of the industry currently being less experienced than in the past.
