In a confidential session today, the Florida Ethics Commission held a probable cause hearing for an ethics complaint filed by School Board Member Jennifer Jenkins.

The complaint stemmed from a story we broke exactly one year ago today where text messages between Fine and West Melbourne City Councilman John Dittmore revealed that Fine threatened to withhold funding from the Special Olympics and flood mitigation projects for the citizens of West Melbourne because he wasn’t invited to a fundraiser sponsored by the West Melbourne Police and Chik-fil-a. Jennifer Jenkins was invited to attend and subsequently raised the most money of any other participant.

Additionally, when we did a public records request for the communications between Fine and Dittmore, Fine instructed him not to release the messages which is a violation of Florida’s public records laws. The West Melbourne City Attorney advised Dittmore that he must release the records, and he did so. After the messages were released, Fine made several attempts to get the attorney fired. He is now the attorney for Brevard County Commission.

Dittmore attempted to smooth things over with Fine in order to secure the funding that was already approved, but Fine stated he would have added to the veto list. He invited Fine to come to the event, but Fine stated it was too late and that he wouldn’t go “anywhere that whore is at,” referring to Jenkins.

The Assistant Attorney General’s office recommended to the Ethics Commission that they not find probable cause. The Commission however, overturned that recommendation and found there was enough evidence that Representative Fine broke Florida ethics laws by abuse or misuse of his office.

Representative Fine can now challenge the findings before a judge, or attempt to work out a settlement with the commission for his penalty.

Representative Fine is currently a candidate for Florida Senate, but also claims that he has been asked by the Governor to apply to become the President of Florida Atlantic University. He states that he is strongly considering it. It’s not clear how the outcome of these ethics violations may impact him.

Now that probable cause has been found, the entire case is now public, and records will become available next Wednesday.

Additionally, Fine will soon be facing another ethics complaint for nearly identical circumstances where he has now withheld millions of dollars to the city of Palm Bay, over a personal vendetta against Councilman Kenny Johnson. The funding he withdrew included funds for the Police and Fire Departments, the widening of St. John Heritage Parkway, and funding for septic to sewer connections to save the Indian River Lagoon.

Fine lied to Fox35 in an interview when asked about this saying he didn’t know what they were talking about. However, it’s all public record.

Kamala Harris’s campaign has distanced itself from questions over her 60 Minutes interview after Donald Trump baselessly accused the network of committing a crime with its production of her interview.

Right-wing critics on social media posted side-by-side clips of her preview of her interview — in which Harris delivered a lengthy response to 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker on whether the US lacks influence over Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — next to the same segment in the final broadcast that aired October 7.

The Republican presidential candidate shared the clips on his Truth Social on Thursday, raging against what he called a “giant Fake News Scam” by the network, and launched a conspiracy theory that “her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better.”

“A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal,” he said. “TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE. Election Interference. She is a Moron, and the Fake News Media wants to hide that fact. An UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!!! The Dems got them to do this and should be forced to concede the Election? WOW!”

The Harris campaign stressed it was not involved in editorial decisions made by networks.

“We do not control CBS’s production decisions and refer questions to CBS,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. The Independent has requested comment from a spokesperson from CBS and 60 Minutes.

Trump has repeatedly called for major broadcasters to be pulled off the air if he dislikes their coverage or publish damning stories about him or his campaign.

He also backed out of his own 60 Minutes appearance entirely. Anchor Scott Pelley told viewers on Monday night’s broadcast that Trump’s campaign “complained that we would fact-check the interview.”

“We fact-check every story,” Pelley said.

Trump’s exit marks the first general election year since 1968 in which both presidential candidates did not appear on 60 Minutes in October.

In a teaser of her appearance, Harris was asked if the US “has no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu.”

“The aid that we have given Israel allowed Israel to defend itself against 200 ballistic missiles that were just meant to attack the Israelis and the people of Israel,” she said in response, according to the clip. “And when we think about the threat that Hamas, Hezbollah presents, Iran, I think that it is without any question our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against those kinds of attacks.”

She continued: “Now the work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles, which include the need for humanitarian aid, the need for this war to end, the need for a deal to be done which would release the hostages and create a ceasefire. And we’re not going to stop in terms of putting that pressure on Israel and in the region, including Arab leaders.”

Whitaker then says that “it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening.”

“Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” she replied.

On the October 7 broadcast, this was Harris’s response to Whitaker’s question about the US having any “sway” over Netanyahu:

“The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles.”

When Whitaker says “it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening,” Harris replies: “We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

In the following hours, other X users started spreading the rumor about Tim Walz getting his stomach pumped because of drinking horse semen. For instance, on August 6th, 2024, X[2] user @friedman_yitz tweeted, "The story about Tim Walz and a horse is beyond repulsive. No words. Truly, a sick man," receiving over 6,700 likes in a day (shown below, left).

On August 7th, X[3] user @EudaimoniaEsq tweeted a crudely photoshopped image of Walz holding a bottle of milk reading, "Seabiscuit's All Natural," gaining over 1,600 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

Criticism / "Cringe" Discourse
The tweets trying to spread the hoax were quoted and ratioed in replies by other X users calling them cringe or accusing them of forcing the meme. For instance, on August 6th, 2024, X[4] user @jules_su quoted the original post, writing, "they literally have no idea what to do lmao," receiving over 22,000 likes in a day (shown below, left).

On August 7th, X[5] user @ImmaHeadOutJay replied to @friedman_yitz, writing, "This what it looks like when you have a low-effort desperate response to JD Vance's love affair with a couch. You have nothing but pearl clutching," receiving over 5,200 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

This is not to say that Amtrak—or any other passenger rail service—does not provide any benefits to people. As I wrote at the beginning of this article, I enjoy riding the rails with my wife, just as I have enjoyed riding trains in Europe and when I go back to China to teach within the year, we will take advantage of the massive Chinese tax subsidies of passenger rail there as well. Today, Monday September 13, 2021 around noon, I was pulled over by THREE black police SUVs while WALKING in Kentucky. The police who asked me at least five times if my "Pants were around my ankles to flash people" must have not been able to see well since I was not wearing pants, I am wearing shorts, and they were on in a usual way. He required my state ID which includes my full name, birth date, address, and other information about where I was going. Of course "Dispatch" did not require any information from the cry wolf caller besides a name which may be fictitious. In other states when you call the police, you need to give them your full name and other information to confirm it is you before police are sent to the scene. This helps a little to prevent people from making up lies to waste our taxes like they did today. While HALF of the local police department in Kentucky was responding to the false claims that my pants were down around my ankles, some child was being raped and killed or murdered like in the case of Taylor. Liberal (leftist) does not mean waste our taxes with false claims against men who choose to walk along the road instead of wasting fuel. It means we pool our taxes together to help people who are actually in need.

Today, Monday September 13, 2021 around noon, I was pulled over by THREE black police SUVs while WALKING in Kentucky. The police who asked me at least five times if my "Pants were around my ankles to flash people" must have not been able to see well since I was not wearing pants, I am wearing shorts, and they were on in a usual way. He required my state ID which includes my full name, birth date, address, and other information about where I was going. Of course "Dispatch" did not require any information from the cry wolf caller besides a name which may be fictitious. In other states when you call the police, you need to give them your full name and other information to confirm it is you before police are sent to the scene. This helps a little to prevent people from making up lies to waste our taxes like they did today. While HALF of the local police department in Kentucky was responding to the false claims that my pants were down around my ankles, some child was being raped and killed or murdered like in the case of Taylor. Liberal (leftist) does not mean waste our taxes with false claims against men who choose to walk along the road instead of wasting fuel. It means we pool our taxes together to help people who are actually in need.
