A young woman ran over and killed a man in Campo Grande, last Sunday (22), around 7 pm. The images were recorded by a security camera.

The man was the boyfriend of the driver’s mother. According to the police, he assaulted and raped her mother, which motivated the daughter’s retaliation.

The video shows the moment the man appears sitting on the sidewalk, in front of a market, when the car runs over him. It all happened around 7 pm, on Rua Afluente. Another man, who was at the scene talking to the victim, managed to divert and was not hit.

After running over the victim for the first time, the driver again threw the car on top of the man, who was injured. The driver still got out of the vehicle and started arguing with the victim and then fled the scene.

The man was rescued by teams from the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) and the Military Fire Department. As found, he was sent in serious condition to Santa Casa.

According to the Civil Police, the driver remains outlawed. Teams carry out diligences in the region, but she has not yet been located. The case has been registered as attempted murder and is still being investigated.

⁣Washington Post Executive Editor Marty Baron and New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet sat down at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia last week for a rare joint interview with CNN Senior Political Commentator David Axelrod.

In the discussion, Baquet and Baron expounded upon the media landscape of the Trump era. According to Baron, "I think this is a new situation for all of us. We were learning throughout the campaign and we are learning still during this administration. [...] [Y]ou know, Neil Postman wrote his book 'Amusing Ourselves to Death' [...] some decades ago about how we are moving toward the show quality of politics and that the show has become the thing.


"And I think the president actually understands that and uses that, uses that to his advantage. Some of the tweets are designed as distractions and some of the tweets are actually a window into his mind."


For Baquet, the president's rhetoric "has sent a message to despots abroad that you can disrespect the press. We’ve had presidents attack the press. We’ve never had a president go on foreign soil and attack the press so both of us have to manage newsrooms with people who operate in a third world. Both of us manage newsrooms with people who cover, you know, governments that don’t like the press."


He continued: "How can my correspondent in Cairo who covers a government that’s often antagonistic to the press — how can he make the case for the First Amendment and the power of the press and for covering that government independently when we have a president of the United States who says the things he says about the press?"


Despite these difficulties, both editors remain sanguine about press freedom in the United States. "[I]t's got to say something that our audiences have gotten larger," Baquet said. "That means that people in this sort of cacophony of stuff in the air and the fake news and the made-up stuff, that when people want to find out the truth, they do come to these institutions that have set themselves up [...] as standard bearers and as institutions that try to get at the truth and as institutions that have sort of, have held on to their soul. I think that’s, I mean, that’s great."

But clients could resort to violence or be really persistent, so “it was easier to agree than to refuse and then get in trouble because of a fuss.” “That is, it’s a regular brothel, only with a different sign,” Anastasia concludes.
Up to ten girls worked at the parlor at one time. They were of different ages and had different education and different goals in life. But they all had a common problem – they were broke. The ones who came from other cities lived right “at work,” in a changing room.
“One girl had a baby, and she worked at night and left the baby with her grandmother,” recalls Anastasia. “Another had an adult daughter, and she would come in from another city periodically to earn money for the daughter’s education. A girl from Kazakhstan needed money to legalize herself in Russia. Another girl was earning money for her own education because her parents couldn’t pay for it.”
The work schedule was irregular. After a shift Anastasia was free to go home, but she was often asked “urgently to stay on,” and she might stay at the parlor for up to four days in a row.
Easier to recruit than to kidnap
Experts warn against calling sex trafficking “slavery.” According to Gelya Bessmertnaya, coordinator of the Eurydice feminist initiative, the term breeds the widespread stereotype that exploitation occurs only when a person is kept somewhere by force:
“According to statistics, in most cases women are exploited during recruitment and not through abduction. The same thing happens with refugees – they’re cheaper and easier to recruit than to kidnap. How they’re later harbored is another question. But the main factor of coercion is psychological.”
At the parlor Anastasia often heard: “Where else would you make so much? Look at what a good team we have, we are for you heart and soul!” Some girls fell into debt bondage. The parlor could give them an advance or money to rent an apartment, which then had to be “worked off.”
Unlike individual cases of sexual violence, trafficking is a long-term crime, and the perpetrator has an interest in exploiting the victim for as long and as much as possible. According to Veronika Antimonik, coordinator of the Safe House Foundation, the situation could last for decades:
“We’re aware of cases where a person was exploited both in forced labor and sexually. For example, during the day a woman was forced to work in a market or at a business, and in the evening she was sold as a prostitute.[…] At the same time, the perpetrators know that the longer it lasts, the less the victim tries to leave.”

A convicted sex offender bled to death after he was found with his genitalia cut off on a disused industrial estate.

An inquest heard today that Reginald Alan Roach was found "unresponsive" by a dog walker and died after sustaining "wounds" to his genitalia. Roach, 63, was found on the Bryn Cegin industrial estate in Bangor, North Wales on Sunday, November 6.

Kate Sutherland, acting senior coroner for north west Wales, opened the hearing today into the death of Roach. Dr Brian Rodgers carried out a post mortem examination on the deceased, who lived at the Ty Newydd bail hostel in Bangor.

Mrs Sutherland gave the provisional cause of death as "shock and haemorrhaging due to incised wounds removing genitalia". The acting senior coroner adjourned the hearing to a later date pending the result of further investigations.

Roach had a court appearance listed at Llandudno Magistrates Court on October 31, about a week before his death, when he faced a charge of failing to comply with notification requirements in relation to the sex offenders register at Caernarfon Police Station on September 13, 2022.

NorthWalesLive reported he was expected to enter a plea that day. In August Roach admitted exposing himself at a Travelodge Hotel. In 2020 he also admitted destroying a poppy memorial the day after Remembrance Sunday the year before.

⁣The CSXT (Civilian Space eXploration Team) on May 17, 2004 became the first amateur group to send a rocket t o space (i.e. greater than 100 km or 62 miles) when their GoFast rocket reach 115 km (72 miles) high.

GoFast 2014 Space Launch Team

The GoFast 2014 rocket officially set a new world record on July 14, 2014 as the highest and fastest amateur rocket ever launched into space.

Analysis of the data from the recovered military grade Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that flew onboard shows that the GoFast rocket reached 385,800 feet above mean sea level (73.1 miles) and hit a top speed of 3,580 miles per hour. The old record held by the CSXT’s GoFast 2004 rocket was 72 miles with a top speed of 3,420 mph.

The GoFast 2014 IMU had flown successfully on four commercial space missions at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico and was calibrated using C-Band transponder US Army radar tracking data prior to its flight into space on the GoFast rocket July 14, 2014. Statistical analysis of the WSMR flights and the GoFast 2014 launch verifies the 73.1 miles attained by the GoFast rocket has a variation of 0.6 miles with a confidence level of 95%.
