The term democracy was derived from Greek meaning "people rule" in the fifth century B.C. to denote political systems that existed in some Greek city-states like Athens. While a "pure" democracy includes all of its people making all of its decisions as a group, as a practical matter this will not work except in quite small groups.

Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution says, "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government," making it clear that this nation is a republic. However, we commonly hear it referred to as a democracy, and it seems possible, even likely that this was the intended response.

(We understand that some have objected to our selection of the United States as the likely answer to this question, and we accept that it is better classified as a republic, a representative democracy, or something similar. However, since there did not exist a single nation in 1912 that could be considered a pure democracy, we can't think of a better answer. If you disagree, you are welcome to do so. Please keep in mind that we do not have the original answers, and this page represents our best effort to provide answers.)

Limited or constitutional monarchy is a form of government in which a monarch acts as head of state within the guidelines of a constitution. The likely answer in 1912 would have been Great Britain.

In an absolute monarchy, the monarch wields unrestricted political power over the sovereign state and its people. Until 1905 the Tsars of Russia governed as absolute monarchs. Another possible example might have been Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Prussia.

A republic is a government where the head of state is not a monarch. Leadership positions are directly or indirectly elected or appointed rather than inherited. In 1912 an example might have been the Republic of France or even the United States of America.

Thousands of pages of files related to the assassination of former president John F. Kennedy were released Tuesday afternoon.

Kennedy's assassination in Downtown Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963 has been a point of fascination for historians and conspiracy theorists over the years.

The release of the documents comes after President Trump signed an executive order calling for their release in the early days of his second term.

Some of the documents include information about Lee Harvey Oswald's travels to Finland and other places prior to the assassination. One of the documents features an assessment from a former KGB agent, who said they did not believe Oswald was ever controlled by the Russian agency after reviewing volumes of files. Other documents include follow-ups to requests for information to remain classified in the past.

The files have been prepared by a team underneath U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard.

The women accidentally provided their names and phone numbers on the waitlist and reportedly bragged about the crime on social media, tagging the restaurant.

Chicago police are investigating, and the women could face a Class A misdemeanor for theft of services under $500, with penalties including up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

What we know:

Three women from Rochester, New York, were in Chicago to celebrate a birthday when they left behind a surprise at Soul Vibez three days ago.

After enjoying chicken wings, alfredo, and a flight of drinks, the group racked up a tab of more than $200. They then skipped out on the bill, leaving one at a time within 30 seconds of the server stepping away, according to surveillance footage. One woman was wearing a blue wig.

The women also inadvertently provided their names and phone numbers when they added themselves to the restaurant’s waitlist before being seated.

To make matters worse, the trio reportedly posted about the incident on social media, tagging the restaurant and thanking them for the free food.

This incident is not the first of its kind. The restaurant's owners, who operate five locations, have reported an increase in dine-and-dash incidents, a crime that impacts both the owners and the staff.

"Labor costs is up 35%, product costs are up 35% and I used to say, the industry used to be an industry of nickels and dimes. Now it's an industry of pennies and nickels. So when you get these dine and dash incidents… the consumer who is doing this dine and dash, might think, 'Oh it's just $100.' Yeah, but it's hurting the bottom line," said President of the Illinois Restaurant Association Sam Toia.

A police report has been filed, and Chicago police are investigating.

(Reuters) -Peter Marks, the FDA's top vaccine official ousted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the U.S. health secretary's team sought nonexistent data to justify antivaccine narratives, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
Kennedy, a well-known vaccine skeptic, last week announced plans to reshape federal public health agencies, including cutting jobs of 10,000 employees and centralizing some functions of the FDA, CDC and others under his purview.

According to the WSJ report, Marks said he did not want to leave and sought to collaborate with the health secretary. Marks sent a memo to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's acting commissioner early in Kennedy's tenure that proposed listening sessions on vaccines and making immunization information clearer for parents and doctors.
In early March, Kennedy's team requested that Marks turn over data on cases of brain swelling and deaths caused by the measles vaccine — data that Marks said does not exist because there have been no such confirmed cases in the U.S, the report added.
In the report, Marks said Kennedy's team was also interested in weakening regulation of unproven stem-cell treatments, which are sold for diseases ranging from Alzheimer's to arthritis. He proposed a new set of regulations that would keep rules vigorous for risky treatments but more lenient for less risky therapies.
Marks said if these stem cells are made improperly they can harm people.
New FDA Commissioner Marty Makary supported the decision to topple Marks, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
The FDA also sat on a vaccine application its staff scientists had been poised to approve, missing a key deadline, and Makary was involved in the decision to hold off on the approval, the WSJ's report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
On Wednesday, Novavax said the FDA missed its deadline for making a decision on the traditional approval of the company's COVID-19 vaccine.
The HHS and Marks did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
