29 CFR 1928.110: Field Sanitation (Agriculture)

Applies to: Agricultural operations involving hand laborers in the field.
Key Provisions:
Requires employers to provide one toilet facility and one handwashing facility for every 20 or fewer employees.
Facilities must be located within a one-quarter-mile walk of the workers' work area or at the nearest point of vehicular access if terrain makes the walk difficult.
Facilities must be adequately ventilated, appropriately screened, and have self-closing doors that can be latched from the inside.
These requirements do not apply to employees who perform fieldwork for three hours or less per day.

The sanitation standards (29 CFR 1910.141, 29 CFR 1926.51 and 29 CFR 1928.110) are intended to ensure that workers do not suffer adverse health effects that can result if toilets are not sanitary and/or are not available when needed.
How do employers ensure restrooms are accessible?

Employers must provide at least the minimum number of toilet facilities, in toilet rooms separate for each sex (see the table in 29 CFR 1910.141(c)(1)(i)), and prompt access to the facilities when needed. Restroom access frequency needs may vary significantly from worker to worker, and may be affected by medications, fluid intake, air temperature and other factors.

In response to questions about reasonable access to toilet facilities, OSHA published letters of interpretation that, together, describe how employers must ensure prompt access to toilet facilities (see references for letters of interpretation under Additional Resources below).

Employers must:

Allow workers to leave their work locations to use a restroom when needed.
Provide an adequate number of restrooms for the size of the workforce to prevent long lines.
Avoid imposing unreasonable restrictions on restroom use.
Ensure restrictions, such as locking doors or requiring workers to sign out a key, do not cause extended delays

Employers may need to be flexible in developing procedures to ensure that workers have access to toilet facilities as needed. Employers with mobile workers must provide readily available transportation that provides prompt access (i.e., less than 10 mins) to restrooms if they are not available at the work location. Toilets for farmworkers must be located no more than a quarter mile from the location where workers are working on similar findings. Also, when work stations require constant coverage (e.g., production lines and bus drivers), employers may implement a system for workers to request relief as long as there are sufficient relief-workers to assure the wait is not unreasonably long.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to provide all workers — including transgender employees — with prompt access to a clean restroom. Additional requirements related to restroom facilities and bathroom break policies are outlined in OSHA's sanitation standards (29 CFR 1910.141, 29 CFR 1926.51 and 29 CFR 1928.110).

These standards aim to protect workers from health complications that can occur when a bathroom is not readily available, such as bladder problems, bowel issues and urinary tract infections.

Update for the homeless or people just struggling at little Caesars in Somerset KY they are pouring chemicals on leftover pizza according to management orders of corporate.
I can't recall how many times in the past few years I was forced to eat out of dumpsters to keep from stealing from stores in our community because help wasn't there at the time or no ride to get to where help was. Little Caesars used to be one of the favorite dumpsters and restaurants to go to at closing time we could always feed alot of people and get a warm pizza. Most nights the workers would bring the extra pizzas out in boxes and set them on top of the dumpsters, hand them to us or just set them down beside or in the dumpster. But I'm here to tell you tonight if you are homeless or searching for food at night don't go to little Caesars no more they are pouring chemicals on there leftover pizza that possibly could kill people. There manager tonight Hannah made it known to us tonight that it's not them personally working there wanting to throw the leftovers pizza away it's corporate policies for them now to throw them in a bag and pour chemicals on them it doesn't matter if there's 40 extra pizzas. So be careful and I hope you stop supporting corporate businesses like this one until they stop waisting. Little Caesars does good when they choose to do good things but when they choose to do wrong and just waist food instead of giving it away they go all out. About like a drug user, other businesses, politicians or a drunkard that does good when they choose to and when they choose not to care they do wrong. Prayers for whoever made these corporate policies and I hope management at the stores don't follow the evil procedures because as the bible teaches to know to do good and do wrong is causing you to sin. Every weekend, we pick a movie you can stream that dovetails with current events. Old, new, blockbuster, arthouse: They’re all fair game. What you can count on is a weekend watch that sheds new light on the week that was. The movie of the week for January 21 through 27 is Gaslight (1944), which is available to stream on Filmstruck or digitally rent on Amazon, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu.

The term “gaslighting” has gotten thrown around a lot over the past year, mostly in reference to political campaign tactics — when candidates claimed something had (or hadn’t) happened, and refused, when confronted with contradictory evidence, to acknowledge otherwise. Lauren Duca most famously wrote about the term for Teen Vogue in a piece titled “Donald Trump Is Gaslighting America,” for which she caught some heat and also raised the profile of Teen Vogue.

But as with most terms that quickly become popular, a lot of people don’t know what it really means. Does it just mean deceiving people? Or is it something more specific?

You could look up definitions, but the best way to understand gaslighting is to go to the source. George Cukor’s Gaslight — based on a 1938 play by Patrick Hamilton — stars Ingrid Bergman as a naive, sweet young woman named Paula who as a young girl witnessed the murder of her beloved aunt (and guardian) at their home. Years later, in Italy, she meets and marries dashing Gregory (Charles Boyer), who returns with her to London to live in the house she inherited from her aunt, which is also the house where the murder occurred.

But slowly, over time, Paula begins to doubt her sanity. Gregory tells her that she’s becoming forgetful and fitful, acting in irregular ways. He confines her to the house, and tells everyone she’s not well. At night she hears knocking in the walls. She sees the gas lighting dim. But he tells her she’s imagining things.

The film also features Joseph Cotten as a detective who begins to suspect that something’s up, and Angela Lansbury as the saucy housemaid. It was nominated for seven Oscars in 1945 (including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay).

And while I find the film’s ending unsatisfactory — it lets Gregory off the hook by painting him as less of a sociopath and more of a very determined and innovative thief — the scenes in which Gregory is flat-out lying to Paula, coolly watching her come to pieces, are utterly chilling. It’s abuse, and an insidious kind, since the abuser doesn’t leave any marks.

The term “gaslighting” comes from the movie, and so its definition is rather specific: when a person lies for their own gain to another person so repeatedly and with so much confidence that the victim begins to doubt her own sanity. And, as the film puts it, a bit of Stockholm Syndrome develops as well: The victim, now uncertain that she can perceive reality correctly, becomes dependent on the gaslighter, more attached to him than ever.

The trope has been repeated throughout film history (The Girl on the Train is a great example), but Gaslight still holds up — especially in a week where people are throwing around terms like “gaslighter-in-chief” to describe the newly inaugurated president. And if you can stomach watching Gaslight, it’s a useful reminder that just because you feel like you’re going crazy doesn’t mean you are.
