Trump is putting his ‘touches’ on the White House with flagpoles, art and an Oval Office overhaul

Earlier Wednesday, Trump took an impromptu stroll outside toward the Pennsylvania Avenue fence with head groundskeeper Dale Haney and other staff members. Asked what he was doing, Trump said he was scoping out a location for a flagpole.

Oval Office overhaul

Trump pledged in his inaugural address to preside over a “golden age of America.” But he appears to have ushered it first into an Oval Office he has redecorated by adding golden accents to the fireplace, doorway arches, walls and other areas of the room. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“I really must say the Oval Office has never looked better,” Paul Atkins, the new Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, said Tuesday after his ceremonial swearing-in there. “One could really describe it as glistening, and I’ve heard stories about it. It’s true. It’s the touch of a confident president, leading with optimism towards an American golden age.”

Every president adjusts the office decor to their liking, often with new furniture, rugs, draperies and other items. Some hire decorators. Former President Joe Biden had one of his brothers handle it.

Trump seems to have directed the process himself.

“I’ve done some ‘Trump touches’ to the Oval Office,” he told the championship Ohio State football team when he invited them for a tour after he hosted the players and coaches last week. “It’s a little nicer than it used to be, I think.”

Earlier this month, Trump hung a portrait depicting a moment after last summer’s assassination attempt, thereby bumping the official portrait of former President Barack Obama to another wall in the foyer.

The new painting was donated by Andrew Pollock, who lost his daughter Meadow in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Another image of Trump now hangs on the ground floor between the official portraits of former first ladies Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton.

Revealed in a social media post by first-year Rep. Jimmy Patronis, a Florida Republican, the image of Trump features the red, white and blue of an American flag superimposed over the president’s headshot on a black background.

The White House on Wednesday confirmed that the image is real.

ike it or not, he's right. The second game didn't fix the janky combat system and instead doubled down on making it a movie game. Most of the time you're just doing pre-scripted things. The issues with the first were acceptable because it was a small studio and an ambitious game. The second one didn't really do much different and it DRAGGED on and on.

These games often feel like they're made by people who couldn't make it writing books or movies, so they decided to shit out their badly paced stories onto an audience that is more willing to accept it.

100% fair, I think this is good critique for the game. DSP is doing this to manipulate and abuse his audience. He isn’t acting this way to be funny or provide criticism. He is doing it to make his audience feel stupid for telling him to play it. This is the issue I have with it.

A former branch president with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been charged with the rape of a teenager.

Salt Lake County Attorney General Sim Gill announced multiple charges against Armando Flores on Tuesday, for sexual assaults that allegedly began in 2002 when the victim was 14 years old.

In 2012, Flores was convicted of sexual battery involving a 17-year-old who belonged to his church.

According to charging documents, Flores was the branch president of the church which the victim and her family had joined after moving to Utah.

Flores is accused of discussing sexual acts with the victim as he taught her to drive, and another time served her wine when she was at his home. After one night where the victim found herself naked in Flores's bed, the victim said she confronted him about what had occurred, to which Flores allegedly "reminded [the victim] of everything he had done for her family and that they needed him," leading the girl not to tell her family.

The documents show that Flores allegedly continued to sexually assault the girl, even telling her about a doctor "who could sew her up and make her a virgin again."

Flores admitted that the victim wrote him a letter thanking him for all he had done for her family as branch president of the church, but also confronted him about assaulting her.

Flores was charged with two counts of first-degree felony rape and one county of first-degree object rape.

“The youth in our community should be able to trust the adults in their lives," said Gill. "We are here to help them flourish as they grow into adulthood, not hurt them and take advantage of their trust. We appreciate the courage the victim-survivor had to come forward."

ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — After an earth-shaking blast in an Arlington neighborhood Monday night, police officials are giving a clearer picture of the sequence of events leading to the explosion that happened hours after officers first made contact with the suspect.

Officers were first called to the home on N. Burlington Street around 4:45 p.m. after being made aware of flares being fired into the sky.

The suspect has since been identified as 56-year-old James Yoo.

"A male suspect discharged a flare-type gun from the residence more than 30 times. Officers attempted to engage with the suspect without success. A search warrant was ultimately obtained to allow our officers to secure any weapons to ensure there would be no ongoing threat to the community," said Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn.

7News obtained video of those late afternoon flares from Sarah Wilhoite, who saw this happen with her roommate.

"We were talking about how odd that was, and how unsafe it was," Wilhoite said.

Officers agreed. They left and returned with body armor and a warrant to seize weapons Yoo may have had. Other neighbors heard the commotion from officers trying to bring Yoo into custody.

"You can just hear the police say, 'We're not leaving until you come out, James,'" said Sam Kim, who lives near the explosion.

In the hours after that initial 4:45 p.m. call, officers worked on getting Yoo out of the house.

However, the situation quickly escalated.

"At this point, officers experienced what is believed to be multiple gunshots from a firearm coming from within the dwelling," Penn said. "As the suspect began discharging several rounds from a suspected firearm inside the house, officers could not locate the source of the suspected gunfire or its intended target. Officers began to deploy non-flammable, less-lethal chemical munitions to multiple areas within the residence where the suspect was believed to be hiding."

At some point, fire officials said the gas to the home was cut off and the situation reached a point when fire crews evacuated neighboring homes around 7 p.m.

"The fire department personnel absolutely saved lives. In anticipation of what could happen and, unfortunately, what did happen, the fire department personnel evacuated neighboring residents. The evacuation of the neighbors saved lives," said Arlington County Fire Assistant Chief Jason Jenkins.

And for those not close enough to warrant an evacuation, they were asked to shelter in place.

"When we tried walking a little closer, the officer on duty asked us to go back inside," said Brendan With, who lives near the explosion.

Just moments later, around 8:25 p.m., the explosion leveled the home, damaging ten other homes.

Police officials said Yoo was inside the home at the time of the explosion, and they have found human remains. They are still waiting for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to identify the body they found, but they are presuming Yoo died in the blast.

For neighbors nearby, the explosion physically and emotionally shook them to their core.

"I'm just thinking I heard a bomb go off," With said. "I just hear a boom. Power goes out, the house shakes."

Kim added: "The glass was actually coming in our direction. Me and my housemate fell back a little because of the wave."

The timeline may actually begin well before Monday's explosion.

As if in one voice, the mainstream media and self-anointed intelligentsia argued that antiquated religious sensitivities must not be allowed to interfere with either an artist’s free expression or his right to government funding regardless of how offensive his work may be to Christians.

Well, it seems that things have changed.

In Garland, Texas, on Sunday, two radical Muslims died trying to replicate the Charlie Hebdo massacre by mounting an armed attack on a “draw Mohammed” cartoon contest. We are not talking about drawings of Mohammed dunked in urine or smeared with animal dung. No, the gunmen apparently deemed the mere drawing of Mohammed to be an offense punishable by death.

What has been the response of the liberal media to this act of lunacy? Have the talking heads come to the defense of the cartoonists’ right of free expression in a pluralistic society? Has anyone publicly observed that drawings of Mohammed might “jolt” Muslims “into an expanded frame of reference” or “illumination”? Far from it. The overall media consensus has been to blame the intended murder victims for recklessly provoking the terrorists. Such provocation, we are told, is unacceptable and irresponsible behavior given the risk of retaliation by offended radical Muslims.

By this bizarre logic, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Selma marchers should be condemned for instigating the melee on the Edmund Pettus bridge. Same for the three murdered civil-rights workers in Mississippi, the victims of Bull Connor’s police dogs, and anyone else who has taken a stand that might irritate violence-prone people.

For the mainstream media and chattering classes, dumping on peaceful, law-abiding Christians is good, safe sport. But pointing the finger of blame at murderous Muslim fanatics? Well, let’s not get carried away. Rather than draw the ire of radical Muslims by firmly and unequivocally condemning the attack, the infotainment industry has concentrated its attention on the provocative nature of the draw-Mohammed contest. After all, like a drunken, immodestly dressed rape victim, weren’t the draw-Mohammed contestants just asking for it?

Better to question the wisdom of cartoonists exercising their rights than to acknowledge and vigorously confront and expose the elephant in the room, i.e., that there is a disturbingly large number of radical Muslims in this country who oppose our Constitution and who believe that murder is an appropriate sanction for those who offend Islam. That, of course, is the real story behind the attack in Texas. But to grapple with that might inflame those radicals and pose a risk to careers and corporate profits, or result in expulsion from the preening ranks of the politically correct.

A pro-Palestinian group slashed and spray-painted a century-old portrait of Arthur James Balfour at the University of Cambridge on Friday, defacing a painting of the British official whose pledge of support in 1917 for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” helped pave the way to Israel’s founding three decades later.
The group, Palestine Action, said in a statement that the destruction of the portrait in Trinity College, Cambridge, was intended to call attention to “the bloodshed of the Palestinian people since the Balfour Declaration was issued,” particularly in light of the current conflict in Gaza.
A spokeswoman for Trinity, whose alumni include King Charles III as well as Balfour himself, said in a statement on Friday that the college “regrets the damage caused to a portrait of Arthur James Balfour during public opening hours” and that it had notified the police. A Cambridge police statement said officers were on the scene to investigate a report of “criminal damage.”
Palestine Action posted a video of a protester first spraying the portrait, painted in 1914 by Philip Alexius de László, with red paint and then slashing it with a sharp object. This week, a few dozen demonstrators disrupted the opening of an Israeli artist’s show at a Manhattan gallery, Hyperallergic reported. Last month, protesters interrupted a conversation featuring an Israeli artist whose drawings depicting Oct. 7 are being exhibited at the Jewish Museum and dozens chanted “Free Palestine” in a demonstration at the Museum of Modern Art.
