Ever since the televised debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump on Sept. 10, Springfield, Ohio, has become an epicenter for ferocious anti-immigrant attacks. As he struggled to regain his footing against the vice president, Trump dredged up disproved claims promoted by his running mate, J.D. Vance, who said that Haitian immigrants in Springfield were eating dogs and cats.

The false allegation, as New York Times columnist Lydia Polgreen argued, tapped into some of the worst nativist sentiment. “There is a long and grim tradition of demonizing Haitians in the United States,” Polgreen wrote, pointing to how the claim revolved around two cherished elements of life, food and pets. Polgreen argued that the situation is a reminder of the threat a second Trump term would pose. “In his elevation of something akin to blood libel against a group of blameless legal immigrants who came to America from their strife-torn nation in search of a better life through hard work… he has proved himself a dangerous and malevolent figure.” Indeed, anti-Haitian sentiment is deeply rooted in American culture, dating back to the Haitian revolution of 1791-1804, when there was a strong reaction against the overthrow of French rule. This rhetoric has frequently included accusations of animal consumption, as well as cannabalism.

As polls demonstrate that immigration remains a top concern for many American voters, Trump’s rhetoric in recent weeks has only become more toxic. At a rally on Long Island, New York, he warned his adoring crowd: “They’re coming from the Congo. They’re coming from Africa. They’re coming from the Middle East. They’re coming from all over the world—Asia. A lot of it coming from Asia. What’s happening to our country is we’re just destroying the fabric of life in our country. We’re not going to take it any longer. You got to get rid of these people. Give me a shot.”

Besides circulating a dangerous and toxic set of illiberal ideas that has caused Ohio officials to station guards at the Springfield schools and prompted two local colleges to go remote, Trump’s narrative erases the city’s real lesson for the United States: how immigrants are revitalizing decaying economic areas that have been left behind for decades.

Like places in many other so-called Rust Belt states, Springfield had been a city that struggled as the new high tech, financial service-centered economy took hold in the 1990s. But now, Springfield is booming. The recent history of the city shows not why immigrants are a threat to existing populations, but why they are part of the solution to economic decline and malaise.

This has been the history of immigration in the United States since the founding, and it remains just as important today as ever before.

For much of the 20th century, Springfield, Ohio, located about 45 miles from Columbus, was one of the thriving small cities of the Midwestern United States. Manufacturing had been at the heart of the economy since the late 19th century. In 1902, when the companies that produced Champion harvesters joined with several other brands in the merger that created International Harvester Co., more jobs and money came to the community with the production of agricultural machinery.

In addition to International Harvester, the local economy benefited from the presence of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, and several other businesses. Though it was certainly not New York, Chicago, or Columbus, Springfield embodied the kind of bustling small city that was at heart of the American Century.

But like many of these cities, the area suffered greatly in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as factories closed and jobs went overseas. Between 1970 and 2020, the population fell from more than 80,000 to less than 60,000.

When Newsweek magazine sought in 1983 to capture for readers what was happening in this increasingly economically desolate section of the country, it zeroed in on Springfield; the editors said it had once been a “dream city.” The magazine

A substitute teacher has been banned from Woodbury High School after displaying "racially harmful" behavior in multiple classes, including reenacting how George Floyd was killed with a student.

The teacher was banned from campus on Monday after making multiple racially charged comments and gestures in four separate English classes, one of which was putting a student on the ground and reenacting how police "restrained" George Floyd when he was murdered in May of 2020.

"I specifically want to acknowledge racial harm that occurred when the substitute teacher reenacted the prone restraint that resulted in the murder of George Floyd," Woodbury High School's Principal, Sarah Sorenson-Wagner, said in an email to parents, which was first reported by Woodbury News Net.

"This reported behavior is reprehensible. I am embarrassed, and I am sorry this happened to our students. We will take as much time as students need to listen and create open space for courageous conversations that lead to healing, action, and education."

After an initial email on Monday to parents assuring them the man was barred from campus as soon as his behavior was discovered, a follow-up email on Tuesday detailed what the substitute teacher said in his classes.

According to the email sent to students who reported the incident, the man thought they would want to hear about his life as a police officer, even though he is not a police officer in the state of Minnesota.

Other behaviors exhibited unprovoked during the classes are as follows:

Stating that "police brutality isn’t real."
Speaking at length about his gun collection.
Stated that “cops would be the best criminals” and that “they know how to get away with stuff,” saying that he once got an "A" on a paper about how to get away with murder.
Sharing the specific names of the people he arrested.
Speaking in disturbing detail about dead bodies he had seen and sharing explicit details about two sexual assault cases he investigated.
Telling sexist jokes.
Repeatedly telling racially harmful comments.
"Invading students’ space" and mimicking holding up a gun and pointing it at students.
Speaking about a bar fight and fake punching a student with his fist “really close” to the student’s face.
Twisting a student’s arm behind the student’s back and showed pressure points on the chin.

While the man's name has not been shared, Principal Wagner said in her email that the school sent a full report to the Minnesota Department of Education and PELSB (educator licensing department) and is collaborating with the Woodbury Police Department to investigate this incident.

The Woodbury Police department confirmed they will be investigating the incident further and are "disturbed" by what occurred. According to Woodbury police, the teacher has no affiliation with the department.

"The reported actions are not, and will not, be tolerated at Woodbury High School or in South Washington County Schools," Wagner said. "We are partnering with Teachers on Call, our substitute contracted vendor, to ensure that this person is removed from the Teachers on Call substitute list and will never be allowed to fill any vacancies in our school district."

The Biden-Harris administration has united conservatives and liberals. Both are disgusted by how the Democrats have mishandled the U.S.-Mexico border — albeit for different reasons.

A recent poll from Reuters/Ipsos found that only 31% — less than a third — of Americans approved of how the administration has dealt with the immigration issue.

We hear a lot from conservatives who worry that dangerous individuals are entering our country through a porous border. But many liberals also fear that migrants seeking refuge are being mistreated, abused and exploited on the regular.

Due to a combination of incompetence and neglect by the Biden-Harris administration — a pattern, by the way, consistent with the last two administrations — those fears have been realized.

Americans will soon have to decide between two presidential candidates, neither of whom is morally fit to be president.
I’ll gladly stipulate that former President Donald Trump doesn’t have the character, depth or temperament to lead the country, and therefore he should not be reelected.

Even so, I’m sorry to say that Vice President Kamala Harris has also been disqualified.I can already hear the partisans holler about how Americans are faced with a binary choice between Trump and Harris. Yada, yada.

But I’m not in the partisanship business. As a journalist, I’m in the truth business.Here’s the truth. A damning internal report from within the Biden-Harris administration has made clear that the second-in-command ought not be promoted to the highest office in the land.

The Inspector General’s Office of the Department of Homeland Security found that the administration has lost track of more than 320,000 migrant children who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border without their parents. The 14-page report — which tracked a period from October 2018 to September 2023, which means it extends to the Trump administration as well — said that countless children were released into the United States in the custody of “qualified sponsors.” Those children are now at risk of sex trafficking, forced labor and other ghastly sorts of exploitation, the report said.

The figures are staggering. As of May 2024, as many as 448,000 migrant children have arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors. They were allowed entry, and many were given a date to appear in immigration court. But authorities cannot track the whereabouts of many of them.

According to the New York Post, the only reason that this human rights catastrophe came to light is because a federal whistleblower came forward and said that she believes many of the migrant kids were in the hands of criminals and sex traffickers. Tara Rodas was helping the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with an influx of minors in 2021 when she was horrified to learn that she was handing those children to “traffickers, members of transnational criminal organizations, bad actors, bad, bad, bad people.”

As vice president, Harris is co-owner of this debacle. Plain and simple. As such, she lacks the moral authority to be president because she failed to live up to the top responsibility of anyone who has that job: to protect the vulnerable, the victimized and the voiceless.

Strangely, Harris has been disqualified for about a month. The media largely missed the story. That’s either because so many reporters, editors, anchors and producers are pulling for Harris or because they had other stories to cover when the report came out.The report was released on Aug. 19, the same day that the Democratic National Convention kicked off in Chicago.

Of course, it’s also possible that the story got buried because it has to do with an issue that most of the media doesn’t fully understand or care much about: immigration.

This is the one issue that Harris was supposed to take point on. Biden put her in charge of cleaning up the U.S.-Mexico border by addressing the “root causes” of migration.In June 2021, Harris went to Guatemala and boldly told those who might be thinking of heading north “do not come.” That was her “Mission Accomplished” moment.

The Guatemalans didn’t listen. Neither did the Venezuelans, Hondurans, Colombians or hundreds of thousands of other migrants from dozens of countries.

In fiscal year 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol had a record 2.5 million encounters along the U.S.-Mexico border.

⁣That figure includes thousands of unaccompanied minors. Their whereabouts may be unknown, but their fate was sealed by the incompetence and indifference of powerful people in two separate administrations — one Democrat, one Republican — who failed to use their power for good. And that provided an opening for evil.

⁣BREAKING: Lancaster, Pennsylvania officials have BUSTED a large-scale fraudulent voter registration scheme that includes thousands of applications with the same handwriting, fake signatures, false addresses, etc

They discovered the same scheme in other Pennsylvania counties.

District Attorney Heather Adams revealed that the applications came from canvassers who were paid to obtain voter registrations, adding that "The majority of the applications were from residents in the city of Lancaster... The canvases themselves took place at various shopping centers, parking lots of grocery stores and businesses, sidewalks and parks."

"We are aware of at least two other counties that receive similar applications that are currently being investigated."

If you listen closely, the DA said the Clerk received the applications at or near the deadline to register to vote. That means the bad actors waited till the last minute so no one would notice. They would've used the fraudulent applications to commit mail-in ballot fraud without getting caught.

We better check the entire state of Pennsylvania, and we better see arrests NOW.

ICYMI: This same scheme was discovered in Michigan in the 2020 election. Police caught a Democrat organization called GBI Strategies pulling it off after one of their employees turned in almost 10k fraud registrations in ONE DAY. The FBI covered it up.

The video below is the "interrogation" of the employee who delivered the 10k fake registrations. She was just a pawn in a much bigger game. The real bad actors are still walking free.
