VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The man who said he was called a racist slur during an incident in Virginia City that sparked widespread condemnation and outrage online said he wants the two people involved charged.

In an exclusive interview with News 4-Fox 11 Monday, Ricky Johnson said he was trying to gather signatures for a proposed Nevada ballot question on Friday when a man called him a racial slur.

'I want them charged' says man who filmed racial incident in Virginia City

"The first thing that this guy said was 'Get the f*** out of my face with the N-word.' I said, 'What the f*** did you say?' He replied back to me 'I have a hanging tree in my backyard for n****** like (you)'" Johnson said.

I came peacefully, those guys were wrong. They degraded me. They treated me like I was trash.

Johnson then started recording a video that has since been watched over 1 million times on TikTok. The clip begins with Johnson asking the man, later identified as Gary Miller, to repeat where the hanging tree is. Miller responds by saying the hanging tree is in Johnson's backyard.

Miller's wife Janis was also seen in the video touching Johnson on the arm and ushering Johnson away from the garage where the initial incident happened. Johnson said it was an assault and called for charges to be filed.

"I want them charged. That's the justice I want — them charged. And I want it put out that this is not going to be accepted in Virginia City, Nevada. It's not going to be accepted here. It's not going to be accepted nowhere," he said.

Storey County Sheriff Michael Cullen said that as of Monday afternoon, the case had been forwarded to the Storey County District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution.

The comments drew overwhelming criticism and rebuke from Nevada leaders, with Governor Joe Lombardo, Senator Jacky Rosen and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto all releasing statements condemning the language and saying that racism has no place in Nevada.

The incident happened during the annual Hot August Nights classic car event — event organizers said the people involved were identified and their registrations have been revoked. They said they would reevaluate whether to continue hosting events in Virginia City as a result.

The online outrage turned on the nearby Firehouse Saloon, but News 4-Fox 11 confirmed that the Millers do not own that business. The Millers are owners of the building which houses the Firehouse Saloon and other local businesses but they are not the business owners, rather the landlords.

The Firehouse Saloon's Facebook page was deleted and the phone number listed was disconnected. News 4-Fox 11 went to Virginia City on Monday to try to speak with the Millers and the Firehouse Saloon owners and was unable to contact them.

Sheriff Cullen called the incident horrible and said it was not representative of the Virginia City community.

"It's just appalling that these kind of things are still happening in the country. And people act this way sometimes. But in order to be fair, you know, we're trying to get everybody's point of view and all the witnesses and, and make sure we cover all of our bases," he said.

It's a very diverse community. And we welcome everybody here. So stuff like this is definitely not reflective of Virginia City.

FLORENCE, Ky. (WXIX) - The four people and the suspect in the deadly early Saturday mass shooting have been identified.

An emotional Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery released their names during a 1 p.m. press conference. He said the department had never dealt with anything of this magnitude and that they were still trying to process what happened overnight on Ridgecrest Drive.

The victims:

Delaney Eary, 19 years old
Hayden Rybicki, 20 years old
Melissa Parrett, 44 years old
Shane Miller, 20 years old
The suspect, who later died at St. Elizabeth from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, is 21-year-old Chase Garvey, Chief Mallery announced.

The shooting happened during a birthday for Parrett’s 21-year-old child at her home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, according to the chief.

Garvey was not invited to the party, but did know those celebrating, Chief Mallery explained.

The 21-year-old shot seven people, four of whom died at the scene. The three surviving victims are expected to be okay.

Shortly before 3 a.m., officers arrived at the home after receiving multiple calls about an “active shooter,” the chief said Saturday.

“When officers arrived, they could still hear gunshots,” Chief Mallory said. “They approached the residence and saw multiple victims. Partygoers told the police that the suspect had fled.”

Police say Garvey fled the scene, leading officers on a chase. Because Garvey was known to those at the birthday party, the chief said officers were given a description of his vehicle.

Those officers saw multiple victims, including two in the front yard, he said.

”We train on this, hoping it would never happen, but unfortunately, we’ve been touched like so many departments and cities,” Chief Mallery said of the officers who went to the Ridgecrest Drive home.

By that point, Garvey had left the mass shooting scene, according to the police chief.

Officers “quickly” found his vehicle near Farmview Drive and US-42, according to an earlier press release from police.

Garvey did not stop, prompting a Florence officer and Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputy to pursue.

“A Boone County deputy attempted to stop the vehicle,” Chief Mallory continued. “A pursuit ensued, traveling south on I-42 into Union, the suspect shot himself and crashed his vehicle.”

His car crashed into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike, police explained.

Garvey was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he died, according to police.

In the press conference Saturday, Chief Mallery stated that Garvey was a convicted felon with a history of sex crimes.

“This is the first mass shooting in Florence, so it’s understandably emotional for everyone involved,” Mallery said.

His motive remains unknown as police continue their murder investigation.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested after police say they found a number of explosives at a Colorado Tesla dealership, the latest incident in a string of apparent protests against Tesla CEO and DOGE leader Elon Musk.

Lucy Grace Nelson was charged with explosives or incendiary devices use, felony criminal mischief and criminal attempt to commit felonies, according to a news release from the Loveland Police Department.

An "extensive investigation" was initiated Jan. 29 after the dealership was vandalized several times, with incendiary devices found at the business, according to authorities.

Police and jail records list Nelson as a female, though the department noted an alias of "Justin Thomas Nelson."

After the alleged initial incident Jan. 29, there were subsequent incidents Feb. 2 and Feb. 7, progressively becoming more severe.

Loveland Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Padgett told Fox News Digital in incidents prior to Nelson's arrest, there were "very offensive messages, derogatory in nature" left at the dealership.

During police surveillance, Nelson was allegedly spotted Monday night with additional incendiary devices, along with materials attributed to vandalism, according to Padgett.

She was arrested without incident, Padgett said.

After being booked into jail, Nelson was issued a $10,000 cash surety bond.

"The Loveland Police Department continues to work closely with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Denver Field Division with Federal charges likely to follow," according to Loveland Police.

Padgett said the department is not sure if others are involved, but there is no threat to the community.

Indivisible, an organization founded by former Democratic congressional staffers, has been urging liberals to stage demonstrations against Musk, Fox News Digital previously reported.

The activist group published a "tool kit" with protest recommendations, including a section about how to "take the fight to Elon."

It specifically includes steps for planning and executing a demonstration at Tesla dealerships, showrooms and factories.

"Members of the House of Representatives will be back on your home turf from Friday, February 14th, through Sunday, February 23rd, and it’s our opportunity to remind them who they work for," according to the group's website. "Fighting back against the Trump-Musk coup is going to take all of us."

The protests come after the Department of Government Efficiency began slashing spending at various federal agencies at the direction of President Donald Trump,

A car has been driven into a crowd in the middle of the western German city of Mannheim, killing at least two people and leaving as many as two dozen injured before the driver was arrested.

The city centre has been evacuated and a pedestrian zone near its famous 19th-century water tower remains cordoned off.

Bild reported it had been told by a security source that there were two dead and at least 25 injured. The newspaper added that the driver was believed to have been a German citizen and had been taken to hospital for treatment. There is as yet no information about a possible motive.

Police confirmed that one individual had died and others had been wounded. “So far, we can give no more information about the number and severity of the injuries,” the local force said. “During the manhunt, which was initiated immediately, we were able to identify and detain a suspect.”
