VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The man who said he was called a racist slur during an incident in Virginia City that sparked widespread condemnation and outrage online said he wants the two people involved charged.

In an exclusive interview with News 4-Fox 11 Monday, Ricky Johnson said he was trying to gather signatures for a proposed Nevada ballot question on Friday when a man called him a racial slur.

'I want them charged' says man who filmed racial incident in Virginia City

"The first thing that this guy said was 'Get the f*** out of my face with the N-word.' I said, 'What the f*** did you say?' He replied back to me 'I have a hanging tree in my backyard for n****** like (you)'" Johnson said.

I came peacefully, those guys were wrong. They degraded me. They treated me like I was trash.

Johnson then started recording a video that has since been watched over 1 million times on TikTok. The clip begins with Johnson asking the man, later identified as Gary Miller, to repeat where the hanging tree is. Miller responds by saying the hanging tree is in Johnson's backyard.

Miller's wife Janis was also seen in the video touching Johnson on the arm and ushering Johnson away from the garage where the initial incident happened. Johnson said it was an assault and called for charges to be filed.

"I want them charged. That's the justice I want — them charged. And I want it put out that this is not going to be accepted in Virginia City, Nevada. It's not going to be accepted here. It's not going to be accepted nowhere," he said.

Storey County Sheriff Michael Cullen said that as of Monday afternoon, the case had been forwarded to the Storey County District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution.

The comments drew overwhelming criticism and rebuke from Nevada leaders, with Governor Joe Lombardo, Senator Jacky Rosen and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto all releasing statements condemning the language and saying that racism has no place in Nevada.

The incident happened during the annual Hot August Nights classic car event — event organizers said the people involved were identified and their registrations have been revoked. They said they would reevaluate whether to continue hosting events in Virginia City as a result.

The online outrage turned on the nearby Firehouse Saloon, but News 4-Fox 11 confirmed that the Millers do not own that business. The Millers are owners of the building which houses the Firehouse Saloon and other local businesses but they are not the business owners, rather the landlords.

The Firehouse Saloon's Facebook page was deleted and the phone number listed was disconnected. News 4-Fox 11 went to Virginia City on Monday to try to speak with the Millers and the Firehouse Saloon owners and was unable to contact them.

Sheriff Cullen called the incident horrible and said it was not representative of the Virginia City community.

"It's just appalling that these kind of things are still happening in the country. And people act this way sometimes. But in order to be fair, you know, we're trying to get everybody's point of view and all the witnesses and, and make sure we cover all of our bases," he said.

It's a very diverse community. And we welcome everybody here. So stuff like this is definitely not reflective of Virginia City.

A car has been driven into a crowd in the middle of the western German city of Mannheim, killing at least two people and leaving as many as two dozen injured before the driver was arrested.

The city centre has been evacuated and a pedestrian zone near its famous 19th-century water tower remains cordoned off.

Bild reported it had been told by a security source that there were two dead and at least 25 injured. The newspaper added that the driver was believed to have been a German citizen and had been taken to hospital for treatment. There is as yet no information about a possible motive.

Police confirmed that one individual had died and others had been wounded. “So far, we can give no more information about the number and severity of the injuries,” the local force said. “During the manhunt, which was initiated immediately, we were able to identify and detain a suspect.”

Trump and Bukele Torch CNN's Kaitlan Collins in Oval Office Showdown Over Deported MS-13 Gangbanger

Fireworks were flying in the Oval Office Monday afternoon as President Trump met with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, but it was nothing at all like the time Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, used a White House photo op to escalate tensions with the administration. Instead, Trump, Bukele and a host of Trump administration officials teamed up to destroy the false media narrative surrounding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the El Salvadoran illegal who was deported from the United States and is now doing time at the infamous CECOT mega prison in Tecoluca, El Salvador.

Flanked by their respective national security teams, Trump and Bukele laid down some hard truths for CNN's Kaitlan Collins—or, as Trump called her, "a very low-rated anchor"—after she asked President Trump if he'd be seeking Bukele's help in returning the "mistakenly deported" Abrego Garcia to the U.S. The question kicked off a whip around of Trump administration officials lighting into the media for failing to properly cover the story of an illegal being returned to his home country and the associated judicial rulings.

First up was Attorney General Pam Bondi, who alerted Kaitlan Collins to the fact that, "First and foremost, he was in our country illegally." Then came the legal truths: "In 2019, two courts, an immigration court and an appellate immigration court, ruled he was a member of MS-13, and he was illegally in our country." Bondi noted that is was now up to El Salvador, not the United States, to decide if they want to return him, stating that the U.S. would help "facilitate" that return by providing an airplane.

President Trump then threw the matter over to White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, who was fresh off a thrashing of Fox News' Bill Hemmer after Hemmer pursued a line of questioning similar to that of CNN's Collins. Miller got in a nice little dig at Collins over her apparent lack of knowledge regarding the Immigration and Nationality Act, which was enacted back in 1952.

MILLER: It is very arrogant for American media to suggest that we would even tell El Salvador how to handle their own citizens. And two immigration courts found he was a member of MS-13. When President Trump declared MS-13 to be a terrorist organization, that meant that he [Abrego Garcia] was no longer eligible, under federal law, for any form of immigration relief in the United States. So, we had a deportation order that was valid.

Finally, it was President Bukele's turn to address the matter, telling Collins that her question was "preposterous" and that he no intention of smuggling a terrorist back in the United States.

Monday's Oval Office showdown wasn't your typical diplomatic meeting—it was both a public dismantling of yet another false media narrative and a show of mutual respect between the United States and El Salvador when it comes to dealing with national security matters. Kilmar Abrego Garcia isn’t a victim here, no matter how much Kaitlan Collins wants to believe otherwise; he’s a violent gang member who got exactly what the law demanded.

This is what facing the consequences looks like.
