The post, which was viewed by over 17,400 people at the time of writing, comprises of a video taken at a supermarket by an unidentified individual. The individual uses the camera to zoom in on the ingredients of a packet of Kinder Schoko-Bons chocolates.

The information on the packet of chocolates is written in German, and the individual points out that ‘Schellack’ is one of the ingredients. The video cuts to a web search of ‘Shellack’, with results showing images of an insect.

Together with animated overlay of crawling insects over the video, the caption reads, ‘There’s bugs in your chocolate’.

A Creeping Realisation
We translated ‘Schellack’ into English and found that it referred to shellac, a refined substance made from the secretion of the Kerria lacca insect. It is usually found in the forests of India and Southeast Asia, has been harvested for millenia, and has multiple uses.

Shellac helps to add shine to an object’s exterior and limit contact to moisture and oxygen. It is often used in cosmetics such as nail polish and hair styling products, in woodworking, and as a coating for food, including for candy, fresh fruit and medicine pills. Shellac is often listed as an ingredient under the name ‘confectioner’s glaze’, and can help to prolong the life of food items.

While this means that shiny food items often contain the insect-derived shellac, this is not a universal rule. The animal rights organisation PETA, which opposes the use of shellac in food because ‘nearly 100,000 bugs die to produce about 1 pound of shellac flakes’, note that some candy with shiny exteriors like Gobstoppers, Tic Tac and Skittles do not use animal ingredients.

It is also untrue that the use of shellac in confectionery means adding entire insects to candies. While a large number of insects die during the harvesting process, these are screened out during manufacturing. As a result, insects are more likely to end up in a candy bar if it has been sitting on a store shelf for a long time, rather than during the manufacturing process.

The Unvarnished Truth
Looking up Kinder products in particular, we found that shellac was listed as an ingredient for Schoko-Bons on Kinder’s UK website, as well as for Choco-Bons, the Australian version.

Kinder’s Singapore website did not indicate the product availability of Schoko-Bons or Choco-Bons here. Other popular locally available Kinder products such as Kinder Bueno and Kinder Joy did not include shellac in their ingredients.

Nevertheless, we found that shellac is a food additive that is permitted in Singapore and regulated by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

While this may come as a surprise to some, it must be noted that shellac has been used in confectionery for decades without any indication of health risks to humans. Moreover, human consumption of insect-derived products is already relatively commonplace through food items such as honey and some variants of food dye.

As such, though the post is mistaken to claim that insects are an ingredient in confectionery themselves, it is true that chocolates and other candies can contain insect-derived products.

What's the claim?
A 14-second video from an address by U.S. President Joe Biden is circulating on social media with the claims insinuating that the American leader admitted to using directed energy weapons or DEWs during recent wildfires. In the video, Biden is heard saying, "If you fly over these areas that are burned to the ground, you'll see, in the midst of 20 homes that are just totally destroyed, one home sitting there because it had the right roof on it."
A user on Facebook shared the video with the caption, "What we have here is Biden admitting DEWs (Direct Energy Weapons) don't affect roofs that are blue. I swear it's like we're being punked or better yet in a Twilight Zone like I've said forever (sic)." Archived versions of the post and similar ones can be viewed here and here.
This narrative is also viral on social media platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). Archived versions of the posts can be accessed here and here.
Several users have also linked Biden's speech to the recent wildfires in Texas. They have attributed the February Texas wildfires, reported to be one of the biggest disasters of the kind in the region, to DEWs based on the viral video. Such claims (archived here) follow the same trend as observed during the 2023 fires in Maui, Hawaii (spelled Hawai'i locally), when conspiracy theorists linked the tragedy to DEWs.
However, we found that President Biden's remarks have been taken out of context.
What did we find?
We traced the origin of the viral video and found that it was taken from a speech the President delivered on March 1.
Upon reviewing the extended video posted by the White House, the same day, it is evident that when Biden mentioned "roof" during his address, he was discussing improved methods for withstanding natural disasters and had mentioned nothing about DEWs.
We also accessed the full transcript of Biden's speech in question from the White House website and found that Biden was discussing "standards" and "building codes," in the context of the Texas wildfires. He did not say anything about the color blue as claimed in the viral post.
Around the 1:48 timestamp in the White House video, we can hear him saying, "Well, my administration is going to keep building on the progress we've made fighting the climate crisis. And we're going to keep — help folks rebuild themselves in the wake of these disasters. And we rebuild to the standards that are up — the up-to-date standards and building codes and the rest. Because a lot of—if you fly over these areas that are burned to the ground, you'll see, in the midst of 20 homes that are just totally destroyed, one home sitting there because it had the right roof on it."
This confirms that Biden was addressing the standard rules and building codes to withstand natural disasters such as the Texas wildfire.
The narrative that blue-colored items allegedly survive DEW-induced fires, implying that many wildfires are not accidental but caused intentionally by advanced weapons (like DEWs), has become widely popular in the past months, and the theory was also propagated during the Maui fires. Texas, particularly the Panhandle region, has been battling massive wildfires since late February 2024. According to a report by the Associated Press, the fire caused widespread devastation. It prompted evacuations in a handful of small communities, destroyed as many as 500 buildings, and killed two people and thousands of livestock.

A Christian farmer in Texas raised the prized heifers which are essential for priests to serve in the Temple.

Five perfectly red heifers, required for the ritual purification of those who have touched a dead body, arrived in Israel from a ranch in Texas on Thursday, as the Temple Institute continues preparations to lay the ground for the construction of the Third Temple in Jerusalem.

The heifers are all under one year old and if they remain 100% red and avoid any blemishes which would disqualify them, they will each be eligible to be used to create the ashes required by Jewish law to purify those who have been in contact with a dead body, explained the Temple Institute on Monday. This level of purification would be needed in order to allow the kohanim (priests) to carry out their work in a future Temple.

The prized cattle were immediately transported to Haifa where they will sit in quarantine for no less than seven days, in accordance with the regulations of the Israel Veterinary Authority. After the quarantine, they will be released to two separate locations in Israel, one of which will eventually be opened to the public. The heifers will be fed and cared for at these locations until they can be slaughtered and rendered into ashes from their third year onwards.

The heifers were located and brought to Israel with the help of the Boneh Israel organization, which involves both Jews and Christians. Byron Stinson, a Texas rancher and a fundraiser and adviser for the organization, raised the cattle.

The heifers were greeted by a ceremony at Ben-Gurion Airport. Temple Institute officials Rabbi Chanan Kupietzky, Rabbi Tzachi Mamo, Rabbi Yisrael Ariel and Rabbi Azaria Ariel participated in the ceremony, alongside Stinson and Jerusalem and Heritage Ministry director-general Netanel Isaac.

The farmer who raised the cattle is a devout Christian who was intensely interested in this commandment and began breeding cattle for the trait, according to Stinson.

What is a red heifer?

The red heifer is first mentioned in the Book of Numbers 19:3, when God tells Moses and Aaron "This is the ritual law that God has commanded: Instruct the Israelite people to bring you a red cow without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which no yoke has been laid."

The Torah goes on to explain how the heifer is processed and burnt and its ashes mixed into sanctified water. Those who became impure due to touching a human corpse would be purified by having the water mixed with the ashes sprinkled on them twice: once three days after they came in contact with the corpse and a second time seven days after contact.

The Torah relates that a red heifer was brought to Elazar the Priest, the son of Aaron, and was processed for its ashes for the ritual. According to the Talmud, those ashes were used from that moment until the end of the First Temple period. During the Second Temple period, another five to seven red heifers were burnt for their ashes. Maimonides wrote in his compendium of Jewish law, the Mishneh Torah (Laws of the Red Heifer, 3:4), that the next red heifer will be brought by the Messiah.

Why is the red heifer important?

In the modern day, all Jews, including kohanim, are assumed to be impure with the impurity imparted by a corpse. While in everyday life in the modern day this status does not have much of a practical effect, those impure with this type of impurity are prohibited from entering the Temple.

Kohanim impure with this type of impurity are thereby prevented from conducting the services required in the Temple and would need to be purified with the ashes of a red heifer before being able to serve again, making the creation of such ashes a necessary requirement for any attempt to reestablish the Temple in Jerusalem. (One exception is the Pascal sacrifice, which can be offered even by those who are impure with the impurity imparted by a corpse, as long as the majority of the Jewish people are impure with this type of impurity)

A missing 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution has been found which says that no lawyers should be allowed into public office

The 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States has been altered from its original in order to fool the American public into accepting a government that is mostly illegally in office.

The information contained in the article below contains stunning revelations that the entire U.S. congress should be deemed illegitimate, after evidence that a clandestine plot to alter the U.S. Constitution has now emerged.

In the winter of 1983, archival research expert David Dodge, and former Baltimore police investigator Tom Dunn, were searching for evidence of government corruption in public records stored in the Belfast Library on the coast of Maine.

By chance, they discovered the library’s oldest authentic copy of the Constitution of the United States (printed in 1825). Both men were stunned to see this document included a 13th Amendment that no longer appears on current copies of the Constitution. Moreover, after studying the Amendment’s language and historical context, they realized the principle intent of this “missing” 13th Amendment was to prohibit lawyers from serving in government. So began a seven year, nationwide search for the truth surrounding the most bizarre Constitutional puzzle in American history — the unlawful removal of a ratified Amendment from the Constitution of the United States.

Since 1983, Dodge and Dunn have uncovered additional copies of the Constitution with the “missing” 13th Amendment printed in at least eighteen separate publications by ten different states and territories over four decades from 1822 to 1860. In June of this year (1991), Dodge uncovered the evidence that this missing 13th Amendment had indeed been lawfully ratified by the state of Virginia and was therefore an authentic Amendment to the American Constitution. If the evidence is correct and no logical errors have been made, a 13th Amendment restricting lawyers from serving in government was ratified in 1819 and removed from the U.S. Constitution during the tumult of the Civil War. Since the Amendment was never lawfully repealed, it is still the Law today. The implications are enormous.

The story of this “missing” Amendment is complex and at times confusing because the political issues and vocabulary of the American Revolution were different from our own. However, there are essentially two issues: What does the Amendment mean? and, Was the Amendment ratified? Before we consider the issue of ratification, we should first understand the Amendment’s meaning and consequent current relevance.

MEANING of the 13th Amendment

The “missing” 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows:

“If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honour, or shall without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince, or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them.”

At the first reading, the meaning of this 13th Amendment (also called the “title of nobility” Amendment) seems obscure; unimportant. The references to “nobility,” “honour,” “emperor,” “king,” and “prince,” lead us to dismiss this Amendment as a petty post-revolution act of spite directed against the British monarchy. The U.S. modern world of Lady Di and Prince Charles, make anti-royalist sentiments seem so archaic and quaint, that the Amendment can be ignored.

Not so. Consider some evidence of its historical significance: First, “titles of nobility” were prohibited in both Article VI of the Articles of Confederation (1777) and in Article I, Sections 9 and 10 of the Constitution of the United States (1787);

Second, although already prohibited by the Constitution, an additional “title of nobility” amendment was proposed in 1789, again in 1810, and according to Dodge, finally ratified in 1819. Clearly, the founding fathers saw such a serious threat in “titles of nobility” and “honors” that anyone receiving them would forfeit their citizenship. Since the government prohibited “titles of nobility” several times over four decades, and went through the amending process (even though “titles of nobility” were already prohibited by the Constitution), it’s obvious that the Amendment carried much more significance for our founding fathers than is readily apparent today.

YouTube and Google‘s global head of music Lyor Cohen has been confirmed to receive City of Hope’s highest honor, the Spirit of Life Award, at its fall gala.

The veteran music executive will receive the shine on Oct. 18 at West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center. The Spirit of Life Award is “presented to an esteemed community of industry leaders around the world who have made a significant commitment to improving the lives of others through the advancement of research and clinical innovation and the delivery of personalized, compassionate care,” per City of Hope.

Once he takes a spin at the podium, Lyor will join a list of previous recipients that includes Shelli and Irving Azoff, Edgar Bronfman Jr., Coran Capshaw, Eddy Cue, Clive Davis, Lucian Grainge, Allen Grubman, Quincy Jones, Rob Light, Monte and Avery Lipman, Doug Morris, Mo Ostin, Bob Pittman, Jon Platt and Sylvia Rhone, among others.

“If you have the opportunity to give a gift back to the industry you love, with an organization like City of Hope, whose doctors and scientists’ passion for helping others is so extraordinary, it’s a no-brainer,” Cohen said. “My career has been shaped by a contrarian point of view. Open to making mistakes, making big bets, unpopular decisions and being comfortable with change; that is how culture shifts and how breakthroughs happen. To me, these are many of the same qualities that make City of Hope’s mission to transform the future of cancer care across all communities so impactful.”

Cohen began his career as a road manager for Run DMC and the Beastie Boys, before taking on a variety of leadership roles across the music business, from management to the highest-level C-suites. His resume features top posts as Def Jam, Island Def Jam Music Group, Warner Music Group, 300 Entertainment and now, YouTube. Cohen sits on the board of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Independent Venue Association, and is an acting director for SCAN-Harbor.

“In addition to Lyor powering American hip hop as a cultural and musical phenomenon, I have known him to have a big heart and passion when it comes to helping others. This is certainly a prime example of that as he now takes an incredible step in helping City of Hope fight cancer, diabetes and HIV,” offered Evan Lamberg, president of Universal Music Publishing Group North America and president of City of Hope’s music, film and entertainment industry board.

News of Cohen’s honor kicks off a year long fundraising initiative for City of Hope that fundraisers like the Taste of Hope wine dinner and auction (May 17 in New York), Music Trivia Bowl (July 20 in Los Angeles) and the Songs of Hope event.

The homicidal gas chambers at Auschwitz were equipped with doors that had metal reinforcements and a sealing surface inside.
All the disinfection chambers for Zyklon B were equipped with similar wooden gas-tight doors. The possibility of using wooden doors was described by the firm Degesch which manufactured Zyklon B. Therefore, there was no need to install other doors in the gas chambers for killing people.
The installation of gas-tight doors in homicidal gas chambers is confirmed by German documents. In the inventories of the gas chamber and crematoria that were issued when the buildings were handed over to the Auschwitz administration by the Building Office, the word „Gasdichtetur" (gas-tight door) is found.
A fragment of a testimony of a survivor Henryk Tauber, who was forced to work in gas chambers and crematoria as part of the Sonderkommando:
"It was a wooden door, made of two layers of short pieces of boards, resembling parquet. Between the layers, there was a sheet of material sealing the edges of the door, and the frame rabbets were also covered with felt seals. At the head level of a medium-height man, there was a round glass peephole. On the other side of the door, that is, on the gas chamber side, the peephole was covered with a grid in the shape of a hemisphere. That grid was installed because the people in the gas chamber used to knock the glass out before they died. Since the grid did not manage to prevent this and, despite its installation, such incidents still happened, the peephole was later covered with a sheet and a board."
