BURLINGTON, Mass. —

Parents and students voiced their concerns Tuesday night over a survey sent to Burlington Public Schools students that included some detailed questions about sexual behavior.

"Where the line was entirely crossed was the survey – disgusting and purely vile," said one 7th-grade student.

David Hanafin is the parent of another 7th grader. He opted out of allowing his son to take the survey, but says the school gave it to him anyway.

"The only thing parents are asking, teach kids to read, write, math, science, send them home, and we’ll take care of the rest," Hanafin said.

The school committee acknowledges that at least five students were given the survey even though their parents didn’t want them to take it.

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) asks questions about bullying, drug and alcohol use, gender identity, and nutrition.

"The YRBS has been used not to harm children, but ensure that we have data and facts to understand what is needed to protect them," one parent said.

Some parents voiced support for many of the covered topics. Still, most spoke out about the detailed sexual questions.

"This was a gross lapse in judgment," another parent said.

The district said it was a public health consultant who made additions to definitions used in this year's survey.

Two parents who did not want their children to take the survey have now filed complaints with the US Department of Education, saying the school broke the law, and they have the support of others who are demanding change.

"Let’s keep our schools centered on learning and not social agendas. Our children deserve better. And Conti, you need to step down," said one parent, referring to Burlington schools superintendent Dr. Eric Conti.

Between bursts of machine gun and AK-47 fire, Mark "Oz" Geist and Tyrone Woods talked about their children. The attackers stormed the U.S. consulate and started shooting around 9:40 p.m. About a mile away, members of the CIA annex security team heard the gunfire. Several members later testified that their chief of base ordered them to wait before responding. Geist and a CIA officer were at a dinner meeting when the attack started, but Woods soon called them back to the annex, warning them to not drive past the consulate, recalled Geist, who was serving as a CIA security contractor at the time.
The attackers soon targeted the annex and the American security operators fought them off for hours without reinforcements.
"It was the right six there," Geist, a Marine Corps veteran who started contracting after 9/11, said of his team. "We were all the right guys that should have been there."

⁣Kristi Noem was enjoying Easter dinner with her family at a restaurant when a thief swiped her bag. Two Secret Service agents were nearby but apparently did not see what was happening. According to reports, Noem placed her handbag under the table. The thief wore a medical mask and used his foot to swipe her bag. In it was her passport, driver's license, DHS badge and $3,000 in cash. Inside Edition shares some tips from security experts on how to keep your bag safe.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse was stolen at a Washington, D.C. restaurant Sunday night, according to department officials.
The department in an email said Noem had money in her purse to buy gifts for her children and grandchildren and to pay for Easter dinner and other activities.

The department in an email didn’t specify what was stolen, but CNN — which was first to report the story — said the thief took about $3,000 in cash, as well as Noem’s keys, driver’s license, passport, checks, makeup bag, medication and Homeland Security badge. The department said Noem had cash in her purse to pay for gifts, dinner and other activities for her family on Easter.

The Homeland Security Secretary is protected by U.S. Secret Service agents. The Secret Service referred questions about the incident to Homeland Security headquarters.
