The Lincoln Giants were a Negro baseball team based out of Harlem, New York. Two white brothers, Edward and Jess McMahon, established the team in 1911, and employed player, Sol White as their manager. White in turn signed pitchers Joe “Cyclone” Williams and Dick “Cannonball” Redding, catcher Louis Santop, shortstop John Henry Lloyd (a future team manager), center fielder Spotswood “Spot” Poles, first baseman/catcher Bill Pettus, and shortstop/ second baseman Grant “Home Run” Johnson, all future Fall of Fame inductees. These players helped the Lincoln Giants become a powerful team that won the unofficial Eastern Championship in 1911, 1912 and 1913. The Lincoln Giants also defeated the Chicago American Giants in 1913, winning the National Black Championship that year.
The teams’ initial games were played in Olympic Park, located at 136th Street and 5th Avenue in Upper Manhattan and often drew crowds of 10,000 people, both black and white. The McMahon brothers sold the team to James Keenan and Charles Harvey in 1914, due to financial strain. However, many players remained contracted to the McMahon’s and moved on to their new team which was briefly called the Lincoln Stars.
The team eventually readopted its original name during World War I and Joe Williams took over as manager of the Giants. In 1920, the team moved their games to the New York Catholic Protectory Oval, located at East Tremont Avenue and Unionport Road in the Bronx. Due to the long distance, many black fans with automobiles offered carpools to the games, making several trips back and forth to pick up fans from Harlem.
The Lincoln Giants joined the Eastern Colored League in 1923 but they did very poorly, with a 16-22 record, placing the team in 5th place out of six. The 1924 season brought in new team manager Jude Gans and was much better for the Giants who placed third that season with a 31-25 record. The team fell to last place in 1925 with a 7-39 record. John Henry Lloyd became team manager in 1926 and he signed Silas Simmons as a pitcher. During this season the Giants rose to fifth place, with a 22-31 win/loss record. The team did not play during the 1927 season, and returned to the ECL in 1928, only for the league to fold the same year. The Giants joined the American Negro League for its only season in 1929 but disbanded in 1930.

The Bible uses many terms and descriptions for God, one of the most prominent of which is Yahweh. This is the personal name by which the Israelites referred to him.
The name is generally thought to be based on the Hebrew verb for “to be” (HWH), though its precise meaning is unclear. Proposals include “I am the One Who Exists,” “He who causes to be,” and “I am/will be present.”
Because the Hebrew writing system did not originally include vowels, the name is written in the Hebrew Bible using only four consonants: YHWH. These are often referred to as the tetragrammaton—a Greek term meaning “the four letters.”
Because of its lack of vowels, the word’s pronunciation has been a subject of debate. However, based on various lines of evidence, Yahweh is regarded as the most likely pronunciation.
The issue is complicated by the fact that, in the centuries just before Christ, pious Jews became hesitant to pronounce the name. The Ten Commandments warn: “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain” (Exod. 20:7; cf. Deut. 5:11). Many Jews decided that, to avoid the possibility of misusing the divine name, they would not pronounce it at all.
Consequently, they began to substitute other words for it, such as Adonai—a Hebrew term meaning “my lord.” Consequently, when the Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek, the resulting Septuagint version generally used terms like the Greek word Kurios (“Lord”) where the tetragrammaton appeared in Hebrew. This pious custom passed over into Christian circles, and when the authors of the New Testament quote from the Old Testament, they generally use Kurios where the Hebrew has YHWH.
The substitution of Kurios for YHWH in the Septuagint and the New Testament is why most English Bibles have “LORD” wherever the divine name appears in the Old Testament. (The small caps tell you it is YHWH rather than Adonai in the original.)
In Jewish circles, the custom of not pronouncing the divine name continued to be used, and when the Hebrew writing system began to include vowels (written as small marks or “points” above, below, or inside the consonants), the scribes had to decide whether to use the vowel points for Yahweh.
It was decided they wouldn’t. Instead, they wrote the consonants YHWH using the vowel points for Adonai as a reminder to Jewish lectors to say “Adonai” instead of “Yahweh.” This custom of writing the consonants of one word with the vowels of another is where we get the English word “Jehovah.” In Latin, “YHWH” had become “JHWH,” and when combined with the vowels of Adonai—a, o, and a—it became “Jahowah,” which then became the English “Jehovah.” Some have argued that this usage began in the Christian community as early as the twelfth century, though it is often traced to 1518, when Petrus Galantinus, O.F.M.—the confessor of Pope Leo X—published a book that popularized it.
From a theological point of view, it is clear that God does not have a problem with people using the name, for the Israelites did so until the contrary custom arose in the centuries just before Christ. The custom thus was not a matter of divine law.
In fact, the idea that making a substitution would shield you from misusing God’s name is wrong. If you substitute “Adonai” or “Kurios” and then go on to profane that word, God still knows you’re misusing a reference to him.
However, it’s also clear that God doesn’t consider it mandatory for Christians to use the divine name. That’s obvious in the case of “Jehovah,” since this form didn’t even exist in biblical times, but it’s also clear that the same applies to “Yahweh,” since the authors of the New Testament regularly use Kurios when the Old Testament has YHWH.
The practice of using the divine name is thus sanctioned by the many books of the Old Testament that do use it, and the practice of using a substitute is sanctioned by the books of the New Testament, which follow that custom.

US Air Force member Aaron Bushnell made a chilling final Facebook post just before he burned himself to death outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC.
Bushnell, 25, penned a Facebook post about standing against injustice early Sunday, before his horrific self-immolation while repeatedly crying out, “Free Palestine.”
“Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’” he asked in his post.
“The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.”
The post — his first since April 2018 — included a link to a livestream video on Twitch that showed Bushnell setting himself alight while saying he “will no longer be complicit in genocide [in Gaza].”
The footage has since been removed for violating the platform’s community guidelines and terms of service.
Bushnell died from his injuries, police and US Air Force officials confirmed to The Post on Monday.

A man is in a critical condition after setting himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington DC, authorities said on Sunday.
The Metropolitan police department said it responded to an incident on International Drive around 1pm to assist the Secret Service. Fire and emergency services said the man had serious burn injuries.
“An adult male was transported by DC Fire and EMS [Emergency Medical Services] to a local hospital where they remain in critical condition,” the police department said on Twitter/X.
A video posted online which showed a man in a uniform shouting “Free Palestine” as he burned and also identified himself as an active US Air Force member, appeared to be the man in the incident, according to multiple officials, the Washington Post reported. An Air Force spokesperson told the Post they had not identified the man, who was reportedly on fire for about a minute before law enforcement put it out.
I want to say that this is stupid.
If he was actually willing to die for the cause, there are several other things he could have done that would have sent a more efficient message.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has officially announced her plans to step down next month.
McDaniel, 50, who has held the post for seven years, said she plans to resign on March 8.

Feb 21 (Reuters) - An Arizona prosecutor said on Wednesday she will decline an extradition request from New York for a man wanted for the murder of a woman in a hotel room because she did not trust her Manhattan counterpart to keep the man in custody.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, a Republican, said at a press conference she had instructed her staff not to cooperate with any request by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, to extradite Raad Noan Almansoori. The announcement drew criticism from Bragg's office that Mitchell was playing "political games" in a murder case.
Almansoori is wanted for the murder of Denisse Oleas-Arancibia, 38, in a room at the SoHo 54 Hotel in Manhattan earlier in February. She was strangled and bludgeoned in her head, according to an autopsy report.
He was arrested by police in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Feb. 18 after an 18-year-old woman survived being stabbed multiple times in the bathroom of a McDonald's restaurant in Surprise, Arizona.
He made statements to Arizona investigators linking himself to the McDonald's attack, another non-fatal stabbing the day before in Phoenix, Arizona, and the murder at the SoHo 54 Hotel, police said.
Almansoori remains in jail, having been denied release on bail at an initial court appearance, and it was unclear whether he had a lawyer.
In explaining her decision not to extradite Almansoori to New York, Mitchell, the county's chief prosecutor, noted that the assaults he is accused of in Arizona carry mandatory prison sentences, suggesting without evidence he might be released from custody in New York.
"Having observed the treatment of violent criminals in the New York area by the Manhattan D.A. there, Alvin Bragg, I think it's safer to keep him here and keep him in custody so that he cannot be out doing this to individuals, either in our state or county or anywhere in the United States," she told reporters.
She did not elaborate, but Bragg, like other Democratic law-enforcement officials, has often been criticized by Republican politicians for being too lenient on criminals, even where such allegations are undercut by crime statistics.
Bragg's office shared data showing the murder rate in Phoenix, the largest city in Maricopa County, is more than twice that of New York City, which has long had a relatively low ranking among American cities for violent crime.
"It is deeply disturbing that D.A. Mitchell is playing political games in a murder investigation," Emily Tuttle, a spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney, said in a statement. She said Mitchell's decision was a "slap in the face" to New York law enforcement and "to the victim in our case to refuse to allow us to seek justice and full accountability for a New Yorker's death."

JCW says Karow and other wanted men and women have been able to exploit a right known as the Law of Return, whereby any Jewish person can move to Israel and automatically gain citizenship.
Since the small organization started tracking accused pedophiles in 2014, it says more than 60 have fled from the U.S. to Israel. Given its limited resources to identify these individuals, JCW says the actual number is likely much larger.
"The same thing that is going on in the Catholic Church right now around the world, the exact same thing is happening in our community," JCW's founder Meyer Seewald told CBS News. "The cover-ups are the same, the stigma, the shame."
Seewald says tightly-knit Jewish communities across the U.S. will sometimes meet accusations against a member with incredulity, and that can have a chilling effect.
"Everyone goes and surrounds this individual and supports him because they can't believe a person can do such a crime. They take the abuser's side and the abuse continues," Seewald says. "They put him in another community. A few years later, he's done the same thing and we hear more allegations that the person is abusing children. Victims don't want to come forward when they see that."
JCW says the majority of its cases originate from modern Orthodox to Ultra-orthodox Jewish enclaves in the U.S., but that it happens across the wider Jewish community. Because perpetrators can't be held accountable unless victims come forward, many cases are believed to go unreported. To try to get them out into the light, JCW holds awareness events across the U.S., and offers victims of sexual abuse advice and emotional support.
Mendy Hauck decided to come forward after receiving support from JCW. The father of two says he was just 8-years-old when he was molested by a teacher at his Orthodox Jewish School in Los Angeles. Hauck says the abuse started one day when a friend brought in cookies for his birthday.
"I actually went ahead and reached for the biggest cookie and he said, 'Put it back and you could come back by recess and get your cookie,'" Hauck said. "So after he handed out the rest of the cookies to the other classmates, I had to stay behind if I wanted my cookie, and I did. He called me up to his desk... and that's when he started... rubbing me."
His alleged abuser is Mordechai Yomtov, a then-35-year-old Hebrew teacher.
"I jumped backwards like a step or two and he grabbed my hair and said, 'it's fine, you can come close. I won't hurt you. There is nothing wrong,' and he did it again," Hauck recalls.
Hauck says the abuse continued over the course of the year. He says he felt trapped, with nowhere to turn.
When the year finished, Hauck moved on to the next grade. That's when Yomtov's crimes caught up to him. In 2001, police arrested and charged him with committing lewd acts with three of his other students, ranging in age from 8 to 10. But Hauck never told anyone about his ordeal until years later.
Yomtov eventually pled guilty, served time in jail and was released on probation. But once free, he violated his probation by fleeing to Israel via Mexico.
JCW tracked him down and confronted him in Jerusalem with a hidden camera. Yomtov admitted that he violated his probation and illegally fled the United States, with help. He also said that in Mexico he obtained a fake passport in order to travel to Israel, where he lives illegally.
Yomtov denied abusing Hauck, but offered a general apology to his victims, saying: "I'm very, very sorry. I hope that God will help every single person who went through this. Please forgive me."
It wasn't until 2016, when another alleged victim of Yomtov and friend of Hauck's came forward, that Hauck felt compelled to tell his story. He filed a police report hoping to get justice, but says the processes has been slow. For him, justice is twofold.
"I want the (LA County District Attorney) to step up their game — you know, actually fight to get him back here and give him what he deserves," he says. "And also, I want the communities to make sure this doesn't happen again."
The district attorney's office told CBS News there has been no request to extradite Yomtov back to the United States, and declined any further comment.

March 12 (Reuters) - Right-wing activist and Idaho gubernatorial candidate Ammon Bundy was arrested on Saturday on a trespassing charge for refusing to leave a hospital where an infant was taken into protective custody from his parents in a child-welfare case, police said.
Bundy's campaign said on Twitter that he had gone to the hospital in Meridian, Idaho, about 10 miles (15 km) west of the state capital Boise, in support of a family whose baby boy "had been medically kidnapped."
The campaign tweet said Bundy was arrested "for the crime of disagreeing with the hospital and CPS (child protective services)," adding, "this was an ambush arrest with no legal grounds."
Bundy and members of his family have become widely known for leading armed standoffs against federal authorities, most notably in a 41-day takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon in 2016 that left one of the occupiers dead.
Bundy, a brother and others were later acquitted of federal conspiracy charges stemming from the Malheur siege.
In a personal tweet, Bundy, 46, described the child as the grandson of a close friend, and said authorities took the baby because "a medical practitioner called CPS for a missed doctor appointment."
"If this happened to them, it could happen to you," Bundy wrote. "We must stand against this medical tyranny."
Police said the 10-month-old child was first hospitalized on March 1 after medical personnel determined the baby was severely malnourished. The infant was released to his parents a few days later after gaining sufficient weight, police said.
But a subsequent checkup found the child again had lost significant weight, and police were contacted when the parents canceled their follow-up appointment and could not be located, the Meridian police department said in a statement.
Advised that the child's condition was life-threatening, police sought to contact the parents, but the family proved uncooperative and evaded further attempts to check on the child's well-being, police said.
After a warrant was obtained, police located the father and child in a traffic stop, took the infant into custody and brought the baby to the hospital for additional medical care.
Bundy was arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing count after he and several followers showed up at the hospital "and refused to leave the property when asked to do so," police said.
A woman accused of interfering was also arrested, as were two other adults charged with interfering with police at the scene of the traffic stop, according to police.
Bundy, who has led a number of protests against COVID-19 public health restrictions in Idaho, announced his bid for the Republican nomination for governor in June.

(CNN) -- The Defense Department will reopen its investigation into employees who are alleged to have downloaded child pornography, a spokesman said Wednesday.
The Pentagon's Defense Criminal Investigative Service will review 264 cases, according to spokesman Gary Comerford. The department had stopped the reviews because of a lack of resources, he said.
Some of the cases may be referred to military criminal investigations, while cases where it appears a criminal investigation cannot be done will be sent to Defense Department leadership for consideration.
The incidents were part of Project Flicker, a nationwide child pornography sting conducted several years ago by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The Department of Defense released documents pertaining to the sting earlier this summer.
A Yahoo News investigation found that the department followed up on only a fifth of the cases after federal investigators informed it of employee involvement.
"I have tasked Defense Criminal Investigative Service representatives with reviewing each and every Project Flicker and related referral DCIS received so as to ensure action was taken regarding these allegations involving employees of the Department of Defense," James Burch, deputy inspector general for investigations, said in a statement released Wednesday.
Among the employees identified in a series of reports released by the department were some listed as having security clearances at the top secret level or higher. They worked for groups within the department such as the National Security Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office, two of the country's top intelligence agencies.
Some of the employees are suspected of having used their work computers to view pornographic websites.
Some employees involved in the investigation have pleaded guilty to charges of child pornography, but other inquiries were dropped or are still open. One case against a Defense Department contractor who allegedly admitted to having viewed pornographic material of children was dropped "due to a lack of resources," according to one of the reports from 2009.
