(Reuters) -Peter Marks, the FDA's top vaccine official ousted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the U.S. health secretary's team sought nonexistent data to justify antivaccine narratives, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
Kennedy, a well-known vaccine skeptic, last week announced plans to reshape federal public health agencies, including cutting jobs of 10,000 employees and centralizing some functions of the FDA, CDC and others under his purview.

According to the WSJ report, Marks said he did not want to leave and sought to collaborate with the health secretary. Marks sent a memo to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's acting commissioner early in Kennedy's tenure that proposed listening sessions on vaccines and making immunization information clearer for parents and doctors.
In early March, Kennedy's team requested that Marks turn over data on cases of brain swelling and deaths caused by the measles vaccine — data that Marks said does not exist because there have been no such confirmed cases in the U.S, the report added.
In the report, Marks said Kennedy's team was also interested in weakening regulation of unproven stem-cell treatments, which are sold for diseases ranging from Alzheimer's to arthritis. He proposed a new set of regulations that would keep rules vigorous for risky treatments but more lenient for less risky therapies.
Marks said if these stem cells are made improperly they can harm people.
New FDA Commissioner Marty Makary supported the decision to topple Marks, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
The FDA also sat on a vaccine application its staff scientists had been poised to approve, missing a key deadline, and Makary was involved in the decision to hold off on the approval, the WSJ's report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
On Wednesday, Novavax said the FDA missed its deadline for making a decision on the traditional approval of the company's COVID-19 vaccine.
The HHS and Marks did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

The pro-life activist sucker punched during an interview on a Harlem street is struggling after the shocking violence — which she said was emblematic of the entire pro-choice movement.

“A lot of the pro-abortion movement is violence and abortion is violence, therefore it breeds violence,” Savannah Craven Antao, a 23-year-old reporter for advocacy group Live Action, fumed in a Saturday interview with The Post.

The woman who socked Craven Antao during the on-camera interview about Planned Parenthood is still on the loose, and the NYPD couldn’t say whether there were any leads in the case.

Craven Antao is nursing a swollen black left eye, two stitches below her eyebrow, significant pain in her nasal area and a heavy psychological burden after the Thursday incident.

“Mentally, I’m kind of struggling. I am having a lot of stress — just flashbacks about what happened to me,” she explained.

“Every time I go on my phone and I open any social media, I see the video of myself being assaulted. And it’s like I go back to the moment. It’s terrifying.”

Craven Antao claims the mystery assailant had approached her with an interest in being featured during her man-on-the-street interviews.

The woman, who wore a brown shirt, beige jacket and Louis Vuitton bag, initially complimented Craven Antao’s dress and her cameraman husband’s “skin tone,” the interviewer told The Post.

The conversation soured, however, as the two butted heads over abortion.

The assailant made it clear she was pro-choice and the two agreed there were options other than abortion for women who don’t want to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy to term, including adoption and practicing safe sex, video of the six-minute encounter showed.

Things took a turn for the weird when Craven Antao asked whether foster kids should be killed because “they’re not wanted,” and the assailant said, “Why not?”

“Who’s going to take care of them? I need to know the percentage of people who take children from foster care and abuse them and molest them, who make them personal slaves. I need specifics before you come to talk to me about pro-life,” the assailant said.

“If I don’t want to have a baby I should have the choice to have the baby or not,” she continued before calling Craven Antao “dumb as f–k” for suggesting women simply refrain from having sex. “That’s not logical.”

Craven Antao fired back, saying: “I’m not the one who admitted they would be OK with killing babies in foster care and killing children that have been abused.”

“That’s not the point. What I’m saying is …” the interviewee began before Craven Antao snatched the mic away while her subject was talking, according to the footage.

That’s when the woman unleashed a combo of punches directly to Craven Antao’s face and quickly stalked away.

“She decked me right in the face absolutely out of nowhere. Totally came out of left field, would never have expected it,” Craven Antao told The Post.

It was the most violent encounter Craven Antao has experienced on the job, noting she’s been spit on in the past, yelled at, and told by some she should be raped, get pregnant and forced to give birth.

“There’s probably a lot of people that want to hit me, but it takes a lot for you to just assault someone for different opinions. I mean, apparently not for somebody like her. If she was going to do this on camera and didn’t care that there was a camera recording her, then you can imagine what she does off camera,” Craven Antao said.

The Live Action reporter — who can be seen in video of the incident repeatedly cutting off her assailant as the woman spoke — insisted she “didn’t do anything that provoked” her attacker.

“I believe that this woman was hurt,” Craven Antao said.

“We want justice, but we also want to pray for this woman because she is obviously going through something a lot deeper. I have no words.”

BOSTON — Multiple people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a box truck jumped a curb and crashed on a sidewalk in front of a row of Boston businesses in what the city’s top cop described as a “tragic accident.”

Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash involving pedestrians on Kneeland Street in the city’s Chinatown section just before 1 p.m. found a Penske rental truck flipped over on the sidewalk and lodged against a building that houses multiple businesses, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said during a late afternoon news conference that his office “doesn’t have any reason to believe that this was an intentional act.”

Boston EMS said six people were hurt, and four were taken to area hospitals. Two people were treated at the scene but refused transport.

Three of the victims were taken to Tufts Medical Center, where hospital officials said one person was in critical condition, one in fair condition, and one in good condition.

The fourth victim was said to be in stable condition.

“Right now, we’re thankful that people other than one person seems to be doing OK,” Hayden said. “This easily could have been a far worse circumstance given the time of day.”

Firefighters said they used extrication tools to remove the driver from the wrecked truck.

“A preliminary investigation seems to indicate this a tragic accident more than anything else,” Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said.

Surveillance video provided to Boston 25 News shows the Penske truck racing down Kneeland Street at a high rate of speed before it jumps the curb and hits a pole. The video shows onlookers racing to the crashed truck.

Officers closed Harrison Avenue and Kneeland Street between Washington Street at Tyler Street to accommodate the large emergency response. As of 7:30 p.m., traffic traveling east on Kneeland Street is open while the westbound lane remained closed.

Video captured by a Boston 25 News photographer showed the heavily damaged truck wedged between a building and a pole, debris and dislodged fire hydrants scattered in the road, and the area roped off with yellow police tape.

“This is a very active scene and does not have a total number of victims yet,” police said in a statement. “Please seek an alternative route.”

Homicide and fatal accident detectives have been called in to help with the investigation.

Cox said that crews would work to get the area reopened “as soon as possible.”

Witnesses likened the sound from the impact of the crash to a “bomb going off.”

A Penske spokesman Alen Beljin told Boston 25 News that the truck involved in the crash “was out on rent to a commercial trucking company.”

“We are aware of the incident that occurred in Boston. This is an ongoing situation that we’re monitoring closely. Penske will be cooperating fully with authorities to support their investigation,” Beljin said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with those who have been injured in this unfortunate incident. Based on our records, the truck involved was out on rent to a commercial trucking company.”

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
