William Zev Steen, a former STEM teacher at a private Jewish school in Baltimore City, was sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of child pornography and sexual exploitation.

Steen was originally charged at the state level, but federal prosecutors have since stepped in.

According to the prosecution's sentencing memo, some prominent Baltimore Jewish community members support Steen.

That counselor, Yehuda Bergman, is a registered drama arts therapist but is not licensed or trained in dealing with sexual abuse or trauma.

Neither Bergman nor Neuberger reported the abuse to police, "explaining the consequences would be too difficult for [redacted victim]."

The victim saw a different counselor, Laura Greer, for a couple of years but didn't disclose the nature and extent of the trauma they endured.

Rabbi Mordecai Shuchatowitz, the rabbi of Agudath of Greenspring synagogue and the 'Av Bais Din' or head of the Baltimore Rabbinical Court, requested the judge show leniency to Steen.

"Shuchatowitz.. suggests Steen's 'addiction' (referring to his interest in child pornography), is 'because of something unhappy in [his] life.' Shuchatowitz argues Steen didn't produce, collect, and distribute child pornography because he wanted to see 'inappropriate material.' Instead, he claims Steen did so because something was 'gnawing' at or 'bothering' him," the prosecution's sentencing memo reads.

Shuchatowitz calls Steen a "very good person," and hopes he gets the chance to be with his family and community again.

ZA'AKAH, an organization fiscally supported by SNAP (the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests) that advocates for survivors of child sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish community, is requesting the judge unseal the letters in support of Steen.

A morbidly obese Detroit rapper named Dank Demoss sued Lyft ride-share company after one of its drivers denied service.

The driver reportedly told Demoss she was “too big” to fit inside his Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Demoss filed a lawsuit a week after the Lyft driver told her she couldn’t fit in the backseat of his car. “I got no space. My car is small,” the driver told her.

“I can fit in this car,” she told the driver. “How do you know I don’t have no space?”

When Dank Demoss insisted she could fit in the backseat, the driver replied, “Believe me, you can’t… Order a bigger car, please.”

The driver added, “I had a situation before where someone big couldn’t fit on the seat.”

After Demoss shared a TikTok video of the incident, Lyft responded and apologized for the driver’s “unacceptable behavior.”

The rapper’s lawyers claim weight discrimination is illegal in Michigan. They are seeking damages for her emotional distress.

Lyft has settled multiple lawsuits in recent years. But legal experts say Dank Demoss may not have a leg to stand on.

Drivers are not Lyft employees, they are independent contractors driving their private vehicles. They can refuse service within reason, according to Ride Guru.

⁣On Wednesday [⁣Updated Nov 14, 2019], Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) sent out 23 consecutive tweets whose first letters spelled out a startling claim: EPSTEIN DIDN’T KILL HIMSELF.


Gosar has coyly resisted confirming that he was alleging that hedge fund manager and convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein was murdered. But his tweets were hardly anomalous. Epstein’s death has sparked a ton of conspiracy theorizing, and “Epstein didn’t kill himself” has become a bona fide meme, showing up in signs at college football games and posts by influential pundits like Joe Rogan.


To be clear, the New York City medical examiner has ruled that Epstein died by suicide. A former NYC medical examiner hired by Epstein’s brother has disputed this finding, but that examiner was fired after a long string of errors on his watch, making his word a little untrustworthy.


But that hasn’t stopped prominent individuals, up to and including Donald Trump, from joining in the speculation. The day of Epstein’s death, President Trump retweeted a conservative personality who captioned a video in which he pontificates at length about his theories with “we know who did this” and the hashtags #clintonbodycount and #clintoncrime family. Trump was clearer than Gosar in suggesting who he thought had Epstein killed: Bill and/or Hillary Clinton.


To understand what’s going on here, you don’t just need to know about Epstein’s former friendship with Clinton (or with Trump). You just need to understand the role that allegations of murder by the Clintons have played in right-wing fever swamps since the 1990s, beginning with the suicide of Vince Foster and continuing through to the completely random 2016 murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.
