These suggestions come from my experience teaching yoga to teens in schools. The ideas can also be applied to yoga studio or community center settings, as well as other subjects. A funny thing about many teenagers is that they yearn so deeply to be in charge, yet they often rebel against the responsibilities they do have. At the end of the day, teens really want to feel the security of being well cared for.

1. Know When to Treat Teens like Adults
At the beginning of a school semester in yoga class, I like to give my teen students lots of important responsibilities; including taking roll call, setting up the room for yoga and holding each other accountable for appropriate behavior. I've learned the hard way that if I start a new class session "managing" every little thing, I will likely have to continue throughout the school year. If I hand over tasks, like opening windows for fresh air and stacking yoga mats neatly, I not only have more time to interact one on one with students, my students feel a sense of empowerment.
When a teen student comes to me with problem, I usually respond, "What do you think we should do about that?"
Giving responsibility early on is key because teens usually bring their most helpful behavior to class in the beginning. The first few days of school are generally the quietest, and then...

2. Know When to Treat Teens like Pre-schoolers
A few weeks into a semester, things change. Teens are more comfortable in the environment. They know what to expect. They start pushing boundaries to see how far they can go. Yes, if we let them, they will sit and talk to each other for the entire class period! One day in class many years ago, I felt as though my wonderfully responsible, mature teen class had been replaced by a bunch of pre-schoolers in giant bodies. Mind you, I LOVE pre-schoolers.

By controlling such a large share of these critical resources, they can influence prices and ensure member countries have what they need for economic growth.

This could shake up supply chains and reduce the influence of traditional suppliers like the U.S. and Australia. As the BRICS alliance gears up for its big summit in October 2024, oil and rare-earth metals are going to be hot topics. They're planning to talk about trade agreements that make it easier to exchange these vital resources among the member countries. This shift could shake up the established financial order, as countries that usually rely on the dollar start looking for alternatives. The U.S. banking and finance sector could be hit hardest by BRICS moving towards local currencies. Financial institutions might have to adjust to a new world where dollar transactions aren't the standard anymore.

A man who was shot and wounded by New York State Police last week has been identified as a central Maine doctor with a history of infractions and license suspensions, most recently in 2021 for granting COVID-19 vaccine exemptions to more than 100 health care workers he had neither seen nor examined.

Paul Gosselin, 63, of Augusta was shot on July 2. In a press release issued the next day, New York State Police said troopers in Sullivan County received a report of a suspicious vehicle at a business on State Route 97 in Barryville.

Ultimately they found the man, later identified as Gosselin, who claimed to have a gun and said he would shoot the troopers, according to New York state police.

Gosselin allegedly fled to another business on the highway, got out of the vehicle then got back in and drove at a constable from the town of Lumberland, who was on foot near Gosselin’s vehicle.

A state trooper saw the scene unfolding and shot at the vehicle, with one of the shots hitting Gosselin.

Gosselin was brought to an area hospital and listed in stable condition at the time of the July 3 press release. On Monday, a New York State Police spokesperson told the Kennebec Journal Gosselin was still in the hospital.

The newspaper reported that Gosselin had been listed in a national missing persons database prior to the incident, and it was unclear why he was in New York.

Gosselin, an osteopathic doctor, had had multiple run-ins with the state licensing board before the improper vaccine exemptions. His license was suspended in 2014, according to board records, for allegedly prescribing himself medication and practicing medicine after ingesting drugs.

He was also disciplined for “unprofessional conduct” in 2002 after calling pharmacies and pretending to be his own physician’s assistant to fill prescriptions, according to the Morning Sentinel, and in 1999, for responding to an emergency call after he had consumed alcohol.

⁣Medical emergencies are rare, but hardly unprecedented in commercial flights.

It’s far less common when they involve the plane’s pilot – and that pilot dies.

That’s what happened Monday on an American Airlines flight between Phoenix and Boston.

Captain Michael Johnston, 57, was piloting the plane when he fell ill somewhere en route. The co-pilot landed the jet safely.

Crew members “took extraordinary care of Mike, each other and our customers,” airline CEO Doug Parker said in a statement sent to employees.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the teamwork this crew showed during an extremely difficult time.”

An autopsy and preliminary toxicology tests “showed that the death was the result of natural diseases,” the Onondaga County, New York, medical examiner’s office said – without offering specifics.

Johnston’s wife, BJ, told CNN affiliate KUTV-TV that her husband had a double bypass surgery in 2006. She said she was told he likely died of a heart attack.

“Whatever happened in the cockpit, none of us will know,” passenger Frank Cacciola told CNN affiliate WCVB-TV.

Cacciola was among the 147 passengers and five crew members aboard Flight 550 when it took off around midnight. Their Airbus A320 plane was being operated by U.S. Airways, which is part of American.

After the pilot fell ill, the flight was diverted to Syracuse, New York.

“Medical emergency, captain is incapacitated,” someone in the cockpit told an air traffic controller, according to audio posted to LiveATC.net. “Request handling for runway.”

Those on board knew something was wrong when a woman’s “quivering” voice came over the intercom, alerting them that the pilot was sick, passenger Peter McSwiggin told WCVB.

According to passenger Julia House, passengers waited for the body to be removed. They made it to Boston nearly five hours after their scheduled landing time.

Passengers expressed sadness about what happened and gratitude they arrived safely.

“If it wasn’t for the copilot using a cool head,” McSwiggin said, “it might have been more disastrous.”

A staffer for Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker 'accidentally posted' a video meant to be released next week which reveals Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as Kamala Harris' running mate.

"Philly political sources have told me that a staffer connected with Mayor Cherelle Parker's team accidentally posted the video today," posted journalist Ernest Owens on X.

"The video was scheduled for Monday...after VP Kamala Harris was expected to announce her pick."

"It's Josh Shapiro, y'all," Owens continued.

Or, as Owens also suggested - this could be an 'accident' which serves as a trial balloon, and Harris could go in a different direction.

Shapiro notably canceled fundraising events in New York this weekend and "is likely to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris as she works to pick a running mate," reported WHTM earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Shapiro has come under fire from women's groups after his administration settled a sexual harassment claim against one of his longtime aides for $300,000.

In a statement headlined “Gov. Shapiro’s Failures Enabled Sexual Harassment,” the National Women’s Defense League said that the Harris vetting team should “consider the handling of past complaints of sexual harassment inside the Pennsylvania Governor’s office.” The group claims to be a nonpartisan organization dedicated to preventing sexual harassment. -Daily Beast
