Four teenagers in custody after 'inhumane' assault on adults; victim's son
calls for accountability

Police say they are referring charges of felony aggravated assault "due to the egregiousness of this incident."

As of Wednesday, September 18th, four teenagers have been criminally charged and a fifth is in custody. We're not naming any of the teenagers since they're not being charged as adults.

So far we know police have arrested a 15-year-old, two 14-year-old's, and a 16-year-old.

On Tuesday, September 17th, the 15-year-old was in children's court. A judge ordered him to remain in custody after calling the alleged incident a "particularly heinous attack."

It's important to note that we don't know all of the teen's charges because they are sealed if there's no prior record. We know two of the teens did have a prior record and their charges are public.

Two of the teens will be in court Wednesday, September 18th. No cameras are allowed in the courtroom and two of the hearings are on zoom.

A 14-year-old, charged with aggravated assault of an elderly person, appeared in court just before noon on Wednesday. He will remain in custody and return for a pre-trial hearing on October 22nd at 2:30 p.m.

According to police, a group of juveniles attacked the three victims, who are 63, 62, and 53 years of age. The 63-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both the 62-year-old and 53-year-old were treated at the scene.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Friday fired at least three prosecutors involved in U.S. Capitol riot criminal cases, the latest moves by the Trump administration targeting attorneys connected to the massive prosecution of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Those dismissed include two attorneys who worked as supervisors overseeing the Jan. 6 prosecutions in the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington as well as a line attorney who prosecuted cases stemming from the Capitol attack, the people said. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters.
A letter that was received by one of the prosecutors was signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi. The letter did not provide a reason for their removal, effective immediately, citing only “Article II of the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States,” according to a copy seen by The Associated Press.
A Justice Department spokesperson declined to comment Friday evening.
The terminations marked yet another escalation of norm-shattering moves that have raised alarm over the Trump administration’s disregard for civil service protections for career lawyers and the erosion of the Justice Department’s independence from the White House. Top leaders at the Justice Department have also fired employees who worked on the prosecutions against Trump and demoted a slew of career supervisors in what has been seen as an effort to purge the agency of lawyers seen as insufficiently loyal.

Trump’s sweeping pardons of the Jan. 6 rioters have led to worries about actions being taken against attorneys involved in the massive prosecution of the more than 1,500 Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify President Joe Biden’s election victory. Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of all of them on his first day back in the White House, releasing from prison people convicted of seditious conspiracy and violent assaults on police.
During his time as interim U.S. attorney in Washington, Ed Martin in February demoted several prosecutors involved in the Jan. 6 cases, including the attorney who served as chief of the Capitol Siege Section. Others demoted include two lawyers who helped secure seditious conspiracy convictions against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio.
In January, then-acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove ordered the firings of about two dozen prosecutors who had been hired for temporary assignments to support the Jan. 6 cases, but were moved into permanent roles after Trump’s presidential win in November. Bove said he would not “tolerate subversive personnel actions by the previous administration.”

LONE TREE, Colo. (KUSA/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - A lawsuit has been settled after a shocking revelation that a surgeon and anesthesiologist played a music bingo game during a routine eye surgery, allegedly leading to the death of a man from cardiac arrest.

Chris Reiter, Bart Reiter's widow, recounted the day of the surgery, saying she was told there was no need to stay at the surgical center. "They said I needed to go. I could do an errand or I could do whatever, and they would call me when he was done," she said.

The surgery, a cataract procedure, was considered routine, with nearly four million performed annually in the U.S. However, notes obtained by KUSA revealed that staff noticed abnormal vital signs 11 minutes into the surgery. By the time Bart Reiter was transferred to Sky Ridge Medical Center, his death was imminent.

An autopsy confirmed cardiac arrest as the cause of death. "It just didn't make sense. Bart was 56. I mean, we skied every weekend. We bike together, we hike together," said Chris Reiter.

The investigation revealed that the surgical team played a music bingo game during the procedure. Doctor Stark Johnson, the surgeon, and Doctor Michael Urban, the anesthesiologist, admitted to playing the game, which involved listening to songs on a cell phone and marking a board with song titles.

Chris Reiter learned from nurses and depositions that it was not unusual for the team to turn off audible alarms during surgeries. Doctor Johnson blamed Doctor Urban for silencing the alarms without notifying anyone. "I know that he wasn't paying attention to the vital signs and doing his job," Johnson said during a deposition.

Doctor Urban, through an attorney, maintained that he stands by his care and treatment of Bart Reiter and disagrees with the surgeon's account of the events.
